The Unbearable Lightness Of ONTing

Howdy Hordelings! Saw this the other day and found it interesting. Looks like those of us in the central time bone are the future. Yup, we're going to save the country, right here in diddle America.

Fly Me To The Moon

Woman reveals her plans to have sex with Elon Musk and give birth to first 'Martian baby'

She's an OnlyFans model (porn actress) who wants to fly to Mars with Elon and have a kid. The interesting part was this, however:

But according to scientists, the difficulties of having sex on Mars make this highly improbable, if not impossible.

Kelly Weinersmith, a bioscientist and author based in Charlottesville, Virginia, says people who want to populate Mars 'don't understand how reproduction works'.

Weinersmith, who authored the 2023 book 'A City on Mars' with her husband Zach, told the Times: 'These billionaires think it's an engineering problem.

'They think that if they get a rocket that's big enough, biology will take care of itself – but it won't.'

Couples could risk the health of their unborn baby by conceiving in space, whether they're on Mars or orbiting around Earth on the ISS.

They don't say why, however. Now I'm curious why they think you can't get knocked up unless you're on Earth.

Recess Appointments

Brief: On the Article II Recess Appointments Clause

I'm not going to quote anything because it dry and written by a lawyer, but he does give some detail about how and why Trump can make recess appointments for his cabinet. Worth reading if that interests you.

AI Problems

Home warranty company refused to pay Utah man $3,000 he says was promised by its 'miscommunicating' AI chatbot

Like many homeowners, Robert Brown purchased a home warranty to protect his finances against problems that might occur on his property. Naturally, when his air conditioner broke, he contacted his warranty company to get it repaired.

A technician was dispatched and able to get the unit up and running again, but told Brown it was only a temporary fix. The Draper, Utah, homeowner realized he would need to get a replacement, so he contacted the warranty company again and pleaded his case.

Brown went online and was connected to the warranty company's chatbot, where he explained what had occurred.

"Can I just get the maximum payout of $3000.00?" he asked, according to KSL News in a story broadcast Sept. 23. "I will order and get it installed myself."

The chatbot agreed, per KSL News, stating: "We will proceed with the payout option of $3,000.00 as per your request.”

Brown says he was assured several times that the money was on its way. But when he called the company after the payment didn't come, he says the business told him the chatbot was "miscommunicating" with customers and they refused to pay.

Ultimately they did pay. I've been quite happy with our home warranty company, but I know that not all of them are easy to work with.

Consiquences

How the Democrats Bud Lighted their brand

Reality remains undefeated and suddenly it reasserted itself. Yet in order to appeal to one of the two genders which now apparently exist again, Democratic organizers ended up falling back on clichéd stereotypes of what men are… because they actually have no idea.

The Democrats realized too late that they had Bud Lighted their brand. You can’t be openly hostile to men for two decades and expect to retain the male vote. And judging by Trump’s gains with both genders, you also can’t be incapable of defining what a woman is and expect women to believe you care about them, either.

Whether the left realizes it or not, the Bud Light moment was the beginning of the end of their long-standing grip on the culture. It lost them 23 percent of their market share and still hasn’t recovered. Trump’s recent win is more evidence. He won decisively, a collective middle finger from an America tired of being lectured.

And it was glorious.

Fiscal Responsibility

Kamala Spent $100 Million a Week

Kamala was blowing through $100 million a week. Where did that money go? The answer in a lot of organizations tends to be ‘consultants’, people put on staff because they’re somebody’s pals or politically connected.
Some media allies of Ms. Harris were also paid. Areva Martin, who hosts a talk show, was paid $200,000 as a media consultant, and she went on a battleground-state tour in October.
Roland Martin, who hosts his own streaming programming and runs a media company called Nu Vision Media, received $350,000 in September for a “media buy” that he said was for advertising.
“It should have been a hell of a lot more,” Mr. Martin said in a brief interview. “More should have been spent on Black-owned media.” Mr. Martin interviewed Ms. Harris in October.
Ms. Harris’s campaign also made two $250,000 donations to National Action Network, the organization led by the Rev. Al Sharpton. Mr. Sharpton interviewed Ms. Harris on MSNBC in October.
That’s chump change when you’re spending $100 million a week, but that is also how you end up spending $100 million a week. A lot of ads. A lot of people making money from buying ads. And from everything else.
The good news is they did manage to get all that money out the door. And now they need more.

Fighting Scammers

Meet the Newest Weapon in the Fight Against Cellphone Scammers

“Created using a range of cutting-edge AI technology and trained with the help of one of YouTube’s best-known scambaiters, Jim Browning, Daisy is a lifelike AI Granny completely indistinguishable from a real person,” O2 explains in a press release. “Able to interact with scammers in real time without any input from her creators, O2 has put Daisy to work around the clock answering dodgy calls.”

Daisy’s job is ingenious. O2 employs her to waste scammers’ time so that they don’t have time to target real victims.
According to O2, Daisy has:
…told frustrated scammers meandering stories of her family, talked at length about her passion for knitting, and provided exasperated callers with false personal information including made-up bank details. By tricking the criminals into thinking they were defrauding a real person and playing on scammers’ biases about older people, Daisy has prevented them from targeting real victims and, most importantly, has exposed the common tactics used so customers can better protect themselves.

Heehee. That's great.

Not A Bad Idea

A Simple Litmus Test for RFK Jr.’s Ideas

After Donald Trump nominated RFK Jr. for the post, Time magazine called him “a vaccine skeptic who spreads medical disinformation and conspiracy theories,” and quoted Lawrence Gostin, director of Georgetown University’s O’Neill Institute for National and Global Health Law as saying of his nomination, “I can’t think of a darker day for public health and science.”
But I think we need to draw distinctions.

After looking at the whole range of RFK Jr.’s positions, I’ve come to the view that while some are extreme, others are genuinely worthy of debate—and still others are correct. And there is a way to sift the good from the bad and the debatable. When you hear one of RFK Jr.’s ideas, ask yourself a simple question: Do other nations do what he thinks the U.S. should do? If the answer is yes, then the HHS nominee’s idea is not necessarily apocalyptic, and we should be able to discuss it openly.

Some of his ideas are whacko, but many are not. That's not a bad suggestion for a starting point to determine which is which.

Given the variety of angles (inside and outside of the back seat of an apache) people find to make whoopie, I can't imagine that gravity is an issue in conception.

I could believe it's an issue during the pregnancy, but I don't know how we'd know that. And even if zero G is a problem, the couple could just wait until they get to Mars.

I think the bigger problem is what you do with a child once your on Mars, in terms of toys and clothing, though I guess later trips could supply those things.

83 Long-time lurker who finally has something interesting to say.

The issue of pregnancy in space or Mars is that gravity has a lot of under-appreciated effects in biology and chemistry. Rats exposed to microgravity (say, in space) show brain degeneration in the cerebellum, cortex, and vestibular system. Frogs developing in space show problems with neural tube closure (possibly analogous to humans developing spina bifida).

Mars is a little smaller than Earth and has less gravity, which is why it couldn't keep its atmosphere. You're right that we don't know everything, but there are reasons to guess that it wouldn't work out very well.

So if you have kids, you want them to have a future, and vote red.

If you're a childless cat lady, you don't give a shit, and vote blue.

How much money did this study require? Cuz I could have told them that for free.

The earth's atmosphere/mag field gives significant protection against radiation. In space the baby will be exposed to more radiation.

Also, NASA is supposed to have studied sex in space and found it works but they didn't test conception. A lot of things in the body depend on gravity in ways you might not expect so...it might be harder to get preggers then on earth.

Agent Painenn

Imagine a large prehistoric lizard with 4 chambered stomachs like a cow. Methane from chambers 3 and 4 feed into lung like holding bladders that vent from pits beneath the tongue. In a panic or as defensive attack the methane sacks contract, the mouth opens and a membrane much like the skin of an electric eel sparks as the gas exits and allows a lizard to breathe fire biologically. To get more serious for a moment - the Crusades failed when they lost the Crusade for Egypt.

There wasn't much manpower in the Levant and so they were always going to be dependent on getting men and supplies from Europe...which wasn't going to last.

An Egyptian catholic monarch changes that dynamic though and instead forces the Muslims to hump forces over from Iraq and beyond.

Of course how a Crusader Kingdom handles the Copts would have been...interesting. I suspect a strong enough ruler to tell the Pope to back off could have achieved enough tolerance to rule a mostly peaceful kingdom, but it would have been quite the diplomatic challenge.

I have been getting calls regularly about companies wanting to buy my house. It is always from the same area codes, and the same script, and I have been rude, gave them false leads and refused to talk to them, and they kept calling

Finally I just told the girl that called last that she was probably just given a computer and a modem and an earpiece and promised to be put into contact with leads, but she is getting the same leads everyone else was since I was getting three calls a week. I asked her about how she was being paid, and she didn't want to say that, so I tried to recruit her to be a phone agent for the Oregon Department of Revenue, where she could do the same work and get 3K+ a month, and might get a language differential since she had a Russian accent, and they need some Russian speakers.
So, anyways, I haven't had any calls since then.

No competent armorer would make a form-fitting breastplate for a woman.

Armor is supposed to deflect blows. Having a V shape channeling attacks towards your vitals is dumb.

Even if it's just for show, you don't make armor that way. If she falls over, the boobies give, but the steel doesn't. So all the force of the fall gets focused on the cleavage, and falling is like literally taking an axe to the breastbone.

Holy fuck look what commie YouTube puts on all videos that talk about abortion now:

------------------------------
An abortion is a procedure to end a pregnancy. It can be done two different ways: Medication abortion, which uses medicines to end the pregnancy. It is sometimes called a "medical abortion" or "abortion with pills." Procedural abortion, a procedure to remove the pregnancy from the uterus. It is sometimes called a "surgical abortion."
------------------------------

So they're not even calling it a fetus anymore they're calling it a pregnancy. How magical. Sick demented twats.

Use a test light. One of those ice pick-looking deals with the light bulb in the handle, and a ground lead with a clip. You might want to run a long ground lead from the (-) post on the battery, since finding a good ground at th rear can be a problem. Test the test light by probing the hot side of the battery first.

Posted by: JQ at November 22, 2024 12:34 AM (njWTi)

Yes, it is dry. There is some warmth, consistent with an engine running at 100 degrees F.

I don't believe the notion that the coolant can move too fast for heat to flow. Does not comport with what I know about thermodynamics. But one thing to consider, is that many car thermostats are "bypass" thermostats. When closed, they direct coolant flow in a loop through the heater core, and block flow through the radiator. When open, they direct most of the coolant flow through the radiator, and reduce flow through the heater core, since not much is needed if the water is hot. Remove a bypass 'stat, and both heater core and radiator get full flow, but the coolant never gets very warm.

474 All day at the range, quick glance doesn't look like ace did anything on RUSSIA!! and WWIII!!!!!!!!! Anyway as I and others have noted for a long time, Moscow has many many "escalation" options available should they feel the need to "escalate".

One or more of those were on display today, when a new medium-range ballistic missile (apparently with exo-atmospheric RV deployment and high hypersonic re-entry, with kinetic kill payload) was used on an industrial target in Dnepropetrovsk. "Oreshnik". Might have been another new system used in a strike on same target immediately following.

"Nukes!!!" and "WWIII!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" are predictable reflexive and hysterical reactions from so many, but reality's a bit more mundane. Russia has many ways to "escalate" if desired, and meanwhile is achieving its objectives on the ground (glacially, but inexorably as a glacier as well).

Those things are very cheaply made. The wires are usually simply speared by a sharp barb in the sockets, and maybe also in the plug itself. If merely ONE of those insulation-piercing connections fails, the whole string is kaput. Get a "neon circuit tester". It's neon bulb in a housing with two sharp probes. Hardware and home improvement stores have them. Cheap. Make sure the probes are real sharp, because they have to probe through insulation. Plug in the string. Probe both wires coming out of the plug. If the neon lights, the plug is OK. "Ladder" your way up the string, moving one probe at a time, stepping past each socket in turn. When the lamp fails to light, you have just stepped past a bad socket.

Just remembered, many of these cheaper light strings have a little bypass trick in the series bulbs. The filament has a bypass wire in parallel, but with some thin insulator. If the filament opens, there is full across across that thin insulator which breaks down and shorts (permanently)

That puts a little bit more voltage across the others, and when enough blow, the whole thing will blow. There is fuse or even a fuse bulb to handle this (red tip, I think) You can see that with a section getting brighter than the others.

That little trick is a complication that makes things interesting.

Sometimes the thermostats are designed to fail open, so when the thermostat needs replacing it’s just fully open, which can prevent coolant from ever reaching operating temp. I’ve see that before when a heater won’t blow warm air in the winter.

I was able to wear gloves for most of today's outside chores, and when my fingers got cold, I went inisde the heated shop for a few minutes to thaw them. And I wore insulated coveralls, so I was warm in my body, too.

557 Morning, insomaniacals! 'Tis Friday, the consummation devoutly to be wished!

I think the reason conceiving in space wouldn't work is not so much the conceiving, but that in low-g conditions the baby will grow much too fast. There was treatment of this in passing in Larry Niven's first novel, World of Ptavvs. The Belter culture, humans who lived and worked among the asteroid belt of Sol, dealt with zero-g for long periods. But they had an artificial asteroid that rotated for artificial gravity, "Confinement Asteroid," to which pregnant women needed to go ealry in their pregnancy so their fetuses would develop under gravity.

562 I think there would be a higher risk of an ecoptic(?) Pregnancy in zero G. Gravity helps pull the egg from the ovary to the uterus through the fallopian tube.

If the egg is fertilized in the fallopian tube and attaches there instead of the uterus it's a serious medical condition that requires surgery to resolve.
