Storm Warning Cafe

stormalley.jpg
from Maksymilian

Summer storm in Bavaria.

The best weapon in close quarters combat.

The Paolo, he dominates the pussy, yes?

Good heavens, winter is coming again, isn't it? ISN'T IT?!

Confuse-a-Cat. (BTW Monty Python is on Amazon now but only for about another 10 days. Life of Brian, too.)

Remote-controlled ships re-enacting the Battle of Trafalgar.

Is that tree giving me the stinkeye?

A beautiful baby beluga whale was injured by a fisherman's net, but they rescued it and he seems fine now.

Quarry jumping, the sport of the future.

It happens a lot, the ash and heat causes a ton of static to build up. You get earthquakes, flood, and tornados with volcanos too. There are a lot of destructive things that can happen on earth but none of them are like a volcano for sheer awesome and terrifying power.

Good heavens, winter is coming again, isn't it? ISN'T IT?!

Had a furnace checkout this week. It wasn't lighting off. They replaced a pressure sensor. It didn't light off. They found out it needed a gas valve instead. It didn't light off. They have to calibrate it.

Her Majesty's car was running rough. The garage said the compression on one of the cylinders was out of whack. They said we should have a full-engine check to find out what's wrong, but that the car (325,000 miles) may be at its end.

I thought I'd mow the lawn. Got out the riding mower. It kept stalling out. No gas seen in the fuel filter. Had to call to have it taken in.

I thought I'd use the walk-behind mower. I started work. It stalled out. Can't get it running again.

I hate the entire world.

One of the advantages revolvers have over (most) autoloaders is that you can press them up against an adversary and still fire. While a few of the new ones have a modification to prevent this, in most cases pushing an autoloader against someone will cause it to go out of battery and refused to fire.

This was one of the reasons the French continue to use those slick Manurhin revolvers, which can also pistol whip the crap out of you.

Do you know what Answer Songs are?

I didn't until today.

I'll give you a For Instance: In 1960, The Everly Brothers released "Ebony Eyes," a boy-loses-girl-in-a-plane-crash song.

And then this followed: "After the Everly Brother released 'Ebony Eyes,' Link Wray contacted Loretta Ward and asked her to write the lyrics for an answer song for "Ebony Eyes", the result was 'Flight 1203,' which Janice and Loretta recorded as The Beverly Sisters."

Do you know of any other answer songs?

111 64 One of the advantages revolvers have over (most) autoloaders is that you can press them up against an adversary and still fire. While a few of the new ones have a modification to prevent this, in most cases pushing an autoloader against someone will cause it to go out of battery and refused to fire.

This was one of the reasons the French continue to use those slick Manurhin revolvers, which can also pistol whip the crap out of you.
Posted by: Ace-Endorsed Author A.H. Lloyd at November 20, 2024 07:44 PM (llXky)

Pressing a pistol into somebody's ribcage kind of defeats the purpose of a projectile weapon. The point of having a gun is thst you can inflict damage on somebody without having to get close enough to them that they can punch, kick, headbutt, or otherwise inflict unwanted pain upon your person.

And won't she be surprised when she learns that the UK general public is actually more conservative and ethnocentric than Americans. THey temporarily have a Labor PM not because they are popular, but because of the public disgust with the spineless Tories, who are even more useless than the GOPe. IF there was a Trump-type candidate in the UK, he'd get 70% of the vote.

But alas, their terrible parliamentary system and the fascistic media prevent any decent candidates from even being considered. Only the most repulsive narcissists and Deep State collaborators even attempt to become candidates for Prime Minister. Plus, over thee, you don't vote for a person, you vote for a party, and then the party insiders choose their (and your) leader.

Anyway, welcome to your new political paradise, Ellen!

But what if they do? Handguns are used for clearing rooms, tunnels and a last ditch-defense of one's person.

One reason why heavy revolvers have continued to see use is because they provide better hand to hand capability if it comes to that. Handguns are basically swords with extra long reach. In close, auto-loaders can be disabled by proximity. Revolvers can as well, depending on the lock, but all of them will fire if the cylinder is unimpeded and they are pressed up against someone.

The wounds from that are also horrific.

Answer songs were a thing in the early '60s, but faded away as a genre by the late '60s.

Interestingly, answer sings are now BACK! About 50% of all rap songs are now "answer songs,
" as the various rappers and their crews get in "beefs" with other rappers, an thy release "dis" songs about each other.

Happens even a the very top -- Nikki Minaj and Megan Thee Stallion have released a barrage of hate-flilled put-down sings about each other, each an "answer song" to the previous one.

Depends on how close is close, you need room to extend your arms to use those. That's one way the legions got so dominant, the barbs had these long swords and the Romans would bash the shield, step in and get inside the swing radius and stab into the abdomen or thigh.

Blackpowder pistols were weighted to be used a clubs once they had been discharged and a heavy modern revolver will do equal service.

There's a great scene in "To Have and Have Not" where Bogart informed the Vichy French leadership (at gunpoint) that one of them is going to call the station and let their boat go, which means the other is going to get a beating for nothing. He then proceeds to use (a prop, of course) full-sized .38 to beat the great out of them.

...and the scene then cuts to one of them being bruised and cut up and doing what he says.

332 Back in 2015 Nissan used Chapman's "Cat's in the Cradle" to pitch their cars. It was back dropped with race footage and the story of a race driver who spends time away from his wife and son. While it perfectly hit the nail on the head with the motor racing community, the car enthusiast community it soured on a lot of people and was considered a horrible commercial.

Ironically, ‘Cats in the Cradle’ was Chapin’s biggest hit, reaching No. 1 in 1974. A tireless activist who co-founded WhyHunger, he was killed in a car crash in 1981 while en route to perform a free concert on Long Island.

389 One reason why heavy revolvers have continued to see use is because they provide better hand to hand capability if it comes to that. Handguns are basically swords with extra long reach. In close, auto-loaders can be disabled by proximity. Revolvers can as well, depending on the lock, but all of them will fire if the cylinder is unimpeded and they are pressed up against someone.

The wounds from that are also horrific.
