Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Trump's Pittsburgh RallyMegyn Kelly explains why she'll be endorsing Trump and speaking at his rally in the beginning of this podcast. She says that everyone in the media supports Democrats -- they just lie about it. So she's not going to lie, she's going to put her cards on the table. In this clip, she makes the case against Harris. She points out that Harris is a "radical leftist" and has spent the campaign speaking in "empty platitudes" to hide who she really is. She also makes the pro-choice case against Kamala Harris -- Harris wants to federalize the abortion laws. If she prevails on that, then any pro-life Republican and Congress could outlaw abortion entirely from the federal level. I know the left doesn't believe that -- they always insist that there are (D)ifferent rules for (D)ifferent people. And she's absolutely brutal on Kamala Harris for being a DEI hire, pointing out she only got into law school via affirmative action (which she didn't qualify for), failed the bar exam, and then climbed the political ladder on her back by sleeping with "the most powerful man in California politics, a man 40 years her senior. I'm sure it was love." And then, of course, Biden straight-up admitted he chose her only for her race and sex. This might be a preview of her remarks at the rally. I sure hope so. Meanwhile: Mark Halperin discusses what Obama campaign manager Jim Messina called Kamala Harris's "scary" underperformance in the early vote. Democrats are now pinning their hopes on 1, independents swinging hard to Harris to make up for the missing Democrats, even though independents tend to favor Republicans, and 2, Democrats swarming to the polls on election day, despite not being enthusiastic enough to bother to vote early. A lot of this cope is due to the fact that blacks and Latinos aren't turning out for the Democrats, so they are forced to conjure unlikely scenarios in which white Republicans swing hard to Harris. Maybe 6-8% of Republicans swung to Clinton and Biden in 2016 and 2020, but since then, many of these NeverTrumpers have moved back to the right. The idea that there are more White Republican NeverTrumpers today than in 2016 and 2020 is just a fantasy. Biden has been an absolute disaster. The Democrat idea that Democrats will win election day turnout would be more plausible if Democrats were early voting at the usual rate, and Republicans were merely doing better in the early vote. In that case, I could imagine that Republicans were mostly just shifting when they voted from election day to early, and that Democrats might then exceed Republicans voting on election day. But it's not just that Republicans are early voting more. Democrats are early voting less. And if they're just not animated to vote early, when it's more convenient, why would they suddenly decided to stand in line for an hour or more to vote on election day? If two solid months of calling Trump a racist fascist woman-hating Hitler have not energized these voters, what is going to happen overnight to get them to the polls? Oh, and there's a big benefit to early voting: It allows the party to cross those names off its list and put all of its effort into "ballot chasing" the outstanding vote. Democrats benefited from this in the past; now Republicans are able to ballot-chase the more lackadaisical Republican voters. Democrats are meanwhile ballot-chasing millions of votes they'd hoped to have already banked. Update, from andycanuck: Karoline Leavitt But, as Kyle Shideler warns: It just so happens that safe states will get their votes counted quickly, but all the swing states Kamala Harris desperately needs to win will take "days" or even weeks to finish "counting:"

I don't think anyone truly believes independents will swing hard toward Harris. And, it's whistling past the graveyard to think D voters will show up massively on election day. The "important" states taking days to count really is messed up. I'm normally into "states rights" but this is an area I think maybe needs some federal over sight and funding.
How much could it really cost have an election that doesn't seem rigged when it takes weeks to get the results? I like the idea of paper ballots, no early or mail in voting, and Election Day is a national holiday. We hire whatever it takes to get the actual results within a few hours of polls closing. BREAKING: Almost 14,000 mail-in ballots in Nevada currently don't have adequate signatures and will NOT be counted unless they're cured. This is devastating news for Kamala Harris. Democrats are already underwater in Nevada's Early Voting. This will make it much worse. For example, in 2022, 6,000 ballots statewide needing a signature cure were not counted. Nothing is going right for Kamala's camp. They placed all their trust in creating a mail-in voting firewall, but it has dramatically FAILED in every way. VOTE FOR TRUMP TOMORROW! Oregon has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever.
Radicals in Portland came up with a new voting system, designed to elect radicals, so people in Portland are faced with about fifty choices for city council, of which you are supposed to rank six (three will be elected). People are complaining that it takes hours to get through the ballot, and ballot returns in Portland are way behind where they were in 2020 (Oregon is vote -by-mail only), while overall ballot returns in Oregon are up by 10%. Portland votes 85% for the Democratic Presidential candidate. Somebody has noticed: This has left me with genuine concern that Trump will do better than expected in Oregon. I’ve seen numerous Trump caravans and signs around the state - there is enthusiasm for him here. If Multco shits the bed with turnout, there is real risk for the presidential election. I still think the chances are less than 1:100 that Trump takes Oregon, but it would be very, very funny if it happens. Posted by: The ARC of History! at November 04, 2024 06:24 PM (uxCna) 114

Notice that the exhortations hit Peak Hitler in this past week. The DNC knew their traditional turnout was failing because Kamala's (and Biden's) support simply isn't there. It's also why the significant increase in media/entertainment personalities is at a (I would say historic) crescendo. The DNC knows they're losing. Their base, while not going Trump though some are, are going to sit this one out in protest or disgust. Many of the people serving as spokesmen and/or big named endorsers are "converts" to Trump, people who initially opposed him only, eventually, to come around, either as a result of his four year term or the insanity of the left. On the other hand, there are the GOPers who have turned on him, all of whom were deep state/GOPe puppets foisted on him, and who quickly turned on him with knives out as soon as he revealed himsef to be a promise keeper and not someone to be controlled by the deep state. Many of those people are now spokesmen/endorsers of Kamala. Funny, that Posted by: Shenanigans at November 04, 2024 06:49 PM (wGun1) 304

Here's what I can tell you; take it with a grain of salt if you like but I think he's being straight with me. Nobody really thinks Kamala is going to win at this point. Canvassing is going poorly almost everywhere, with few exceptions. The party is getting their high-follower influencer accounts to push out motivational stories just to keep morale up and get them over the finish line with some dignity, but it's not great. The Iowa poll was good to give a shot of adrenaline to volunteers, but nobody important believes those numbers are real. Of all the swing states, they're hoping Michigan comes through and possibly a late-night miracle in PA, but nobody is counting on either of them. I've not seen any such polling. Maybe it's out there, but it's clearly muted. I spoke to a long time friend who is a Dem election operative. Two thing he mentioned. First, if Republicans show up in force tomorrow it will be a big Trump victory. IF you show up, you guys.
Second, he feels their GOTV is not working for two reasons. First, a big portion of their base has abandoned them. The second and more interesting thing he mentioned is they may be chasing “phantom” voters. That’s is potentially fraudulent voters from the last election who were able to vote because of the holes in the system. More to come on that after the election. But the short version is you can’t get someone to vote who isn’t real or beat the system by now closed loopholes. This election is going to uncover a lot in many ways. After 2000, Florida updated their system and has everything done by the time the polls close, with no hanging chads or other baloney. Funny thing - once that happened the state turned solidly RED. The difference was they'd finish Tuesday and be like "99.9% are in and counted, it's expected to be 15,000 votes but there's a big enough gulf to call it" now it's "99.9% are in and counted, but now we have 15,000 votes to, wait, 25,000 votes to, sorry, 75,000 votes to count, that just so happen to all swing one way and be just enough to win"
In the 2000s the gap in Georgia, at its smallest, was like 200k and as high as 600k, but suddenly the difference was 12k? Posted by: Lamont Cranston at November 04, 2024 07:23 PM (pWb5K) Austria-Hungary was the real tipper in WWI. When they sent their Ultimatum to Serbia after the assassination, it was so draconian that AH (and most everyone else) thought war had to result. But Serbia actually accepted all the terms aside from I think one that was not constitutional. If AH had accepted that and diplomats gotten involved it could have investigated any involvement with the assassins (likely true on a low level somewhere) and dealt a reasonable punishment. But AH was fragmenting internally and decided that war would be a good idea when your nation is coming apart and attacked the 'weak' Serbia....and then LOST. Ironically they probably would have fallen apart before 1918 if Italy had not been bribed to join up. The one thing all minorities in AH could agree on was fighting the Italians. Then the Kaiser backed AH up and the war was on Posted by: Oldcat at November 04, 2024 07:37 PM (n7h9X) 542

But an emboldened, robust Germany and Austro-Hungary would be a check on Soviet power.
------ Or the Communists take over in France and/or Britain [you know, where Marx predicted it would start and not in backwards Russia] and Lenin's successor, Stalin, takes over the world. Posted by: andycanuck (hovnC) at November 04, 2024 07:42 PM (hovnC) 549

Maybe. But an emboldened, robust Germany and Austro-Hungary would be a check on Soviet power. Especially in eastern Europe. Wilhelm and Nicholas were cousins and enjoyed warm relations before the outbreak of hostilities. It's possible that, knowing this.... I love historical what ifs.
Posted by: Lamont Cranston at November 04, 2024 07:32 PM (V100n) I think you need to define down this war rather than just 'they won'. How did they win? A quick one like the FP war? Then you have a doubly humiliated France wanting even more wars to get even. Wars in Europe used to have limited goals up to the Revolution in France. Problem is by WWI everyone was looking at maximalist war goals and imagining they could make them happen in a short war. This didn't happen, and shifting the damage from one state to the other I don't think lessens the overall damage. The small states had more damage making power than their size could cover. The peripheral large powers (USSR and USA) in the end had to limit sovereignty in the area. And now we are seeing the costs of that. Posted by: Oldcat at November 04, 2024 07:53 PM (n7h9X) 552
Nicholas II abdicated in March 1918, and the war was still going when the Russian royals were executed in mid-July 1918.

Bingo. It's why I can only take Rogan in short bursts. He is too slow for me. +lib Posted by: Tech Sgt. Chen at November 04, 2024 08:24 PM (Z8Yh2) 554
I wonder if the 2020 turnout numbers were "fortified", numbers thrown up on the wall and assigned to various voting blocks.
They had more time this year, BUT they have more eyes on them. Less mail-in ballotry thanks to the lack of COVID, and the early voting everywhere could also screw with the plans - reporting multiple ballots for someone that's already checked in could raise questions they don't want to be around to answer. Then again, what are they going to do? A sternly worded letter to Hawaiian judges who hate Trump?
