I was reading a history of the Iran-Iraq war and it was interesting how the old American equipment the Iranians had was so much more effective, even with limited parts and repair knowledge, then all the crap the Soviets gave to the Iraqis.
Had Carter not given Iran to the Mullahs any Iran-Iraq war would have ended in a couple of months with the Shah boogieing in Baghdad.

I've had similar confusion many, many, many times reading spacecraft systems technical requirements written by engineers and approved by managers who should never have been allowed to participate in a requirements process.
One of the worst I saw was a requirement for clearance to be maintained by a vehicle docking to the International Space Station (ISS) and parts of the ISS other than its docking mechanisms. In plain English it made it impossible for any vehicle to ever dock to the ISS.

I read about that a couple of nights ago. Lithium has been discovered in brines in the Smackover Formation, which is a petroleum reservoir formation stretching from east Texas to Florida, and which arcs through southern Arkansas, at some depth. So somebody has calculated the total lithium content of all the brine, extrapolated from a few samples.
The resulting number should be regarded as highly speculative. There are also no figures given for how much it would cost to extract the lithium from such brines. I know lithium "mining" from formation brines is becoming a fact in Saskatchewan, but we don't really know yet if it will be profitable in the long term.

Ahh, the good old Interface Control Document.
My first day at a NASA lab I got a tour of all the equipment and there was this big expensive looking rack sitting there and someone said that it was a backup to a system at the Pad and it didn't work.
They were busy putting together a spec for a replacement.
I don't know why but later I went over to the rack alone with my RS-232 BOB and found the ol' 2-3 swap.
Ha, the terminal booted right up with the splash screen. I told the lab lead about it and he just about shit his pants. I found out later that it wasn't supposed to be fixed. Multi-million dollar piece of equipment the idiots were wanting to scrap so they could justify designing and building a whole new system.

Their instructions state you have to disable it for green or wet lumber. Also, after the brake deploys, the blade and braking cartridge need replacing. I'm thinking this will bought by DIY/hobbyists, not professional carpenters.

One can simply replace the large black ink reservoir alone but it is a pain to get error messages galore every time. Not impressed.
I was impressed they still offered legacy printer drivers for easy download. I fired it up after being idle for 10+ years and it worked perfectly - once I found the drivers anyhow.

When I went by, there was a nice stainless steel cabinet, about the size of a small refrigerator, sitting in the ditch. Fortunately, it hadn't hit any cars as it tumbled across the road.
A mile further on a flatbed semi was pulled over, with an identical cabinet strapped down.

One of the images showed a mechanical arm that jammed the saw blade to achieve an instantaneous halt to the rotating blade. Pretty obvious this was not really a robust easily maintained braking system

We surely should not, and likely will not, know the extent of the damage done, but the announced target list was the obvious one.
One thing, not sure how much inventory the Iranians have of the systems most troubling for Israel (their most advanced ballistic missiles). Probably not a huge amount. Last go round the defense (Israel, US, UK, with Saudi and Jordanian help) intercepted most of the barrage. Light damage to one airfield.
Tehran's been in a tight, and worsening, spot since last October. All "L"s on the board. Major assets wiped out. Street cred shredded. Lots of unknown unknowns (to us), but November-January might prove to be a good time to hit the nukyler complex. Regardless of election outcome here.

Sea salt already contains iodide as an impurity as it is a constituent of seawater.

I add a flat teaspoon of rice grains to the salt shaker and it keeps the salt dry and free flowing.
