Years of misinformation from supposed “experts” like Anthony Fauci and Deborah Birx and organizations like the CDC have convinced millions of Very Smart People to believe that masks are an effective tool to reduce the transmission of respiratory viruses. Yorkshire woman takes command of Royal New Zealand Navy Ship Today, Commander Gray took the helm of the RNZN’s dive, hydrographic and salvage vessel HMNZS Manawanui, based at Devonport Naval Base in Auckland. Manawanui is Māori for ‘steadfast’ or ‘big heart’. It is her first ship command in a naval career that started in the United Kingdom in 1993 as a warfare officer. Her service as a warfare officer ranged from working on aircraft carriers to frigates and mine hunters. In 2012, Commander Gray and her wife Sharon moved to New Zealand after falling in love with the country during a campervan holiday. “The most obvious thing to do was join the Royal New Zealand Navy,” she said. Two days ago, Commander Gray's ship hit a reef off Samoa and sank. It was the first New Zealand navy ship to sink since 1943. If you suspect that Commander Gray was a diversity hire, please report to the nearest reeducation camp, Comrade. Posted by: The ARC of History! at October 06, 2024 10:20 PM (uxCna) 88

The "best Amazonian guide there is if you can get along with him," grabbed a guy's shotgun, twirled it in mid air, pointed the barrel towards his face and looked down the barrel. But back to the movie. Trumpy arrived at 6:50 today. I put him outside about 8pm, dude stayed on the porch, looked around a bit and came back inside. Day 6. The experiment is going well. And so many kittens. Thank God all the females are being fixed. The cats are doing a hard sell. Yesterday after I went over to check on them and collect the bowls from Saturday tuna fish surprise, 4 of them were following me back home across the street. A van was coming and I actually stood in the road and moved the cats out of the way. It's pretty freaky to have several cats race out of bushes to greet you and ask where their food is. But they also come by to say hi. Starry has stayed around the garage for 30 minutes while I've done grip work. And I'll be taking care of Trumpy in the New Year. I never followed Candace Owens but I saw the video on the EweToob homepage and watched it (I turn off the volume and read captions, her voice is irritating). She's been tracing the Harris family through public documents. Kamala's father is turning out to be something of a mystery and his mother doesn't appear to be who he said she is. Aside from any politics, it's interesting in a train wreck sort of way.

Appropos of the weekend "prepping" thread, I wanted to add a postscript. Or an Addendum. Anyway.
I like battery powered LED lights, don't misunderstand the current draw is low, and they have good color balance. The old school gasoline lanterns, with the mantles that get tied on, Coleman type - they fell out of favor in Boy Scouts and have been replaced at best by propane, as there is a bit of a hair-shirt element to lighting and maintaining them. But there's one thing a battery operated LED lantern can't do, and that's heat up a room pretty nicely. The lanterns are like anything else, combustion requires ventilation. But they are very efficient, well designed devices and emit almost zero carbon monoxide and other byproducts. In short, what they are is a kind of heater. And being October, that can be a factor for someone in an emergency. They will also run perfectly fine on automobile gasoline. It is true the stove or lantern "generator" will eventually become restricted due to gum and varnish, but they can be cleaned and re-used on most models. And it doesn't happen overnight. One enthusiast on the Coleman collector website estimates 10 to 12 gallons. Posted by: Common Tater at October 06, 2024 11:14 PM (bzth6) 288

One story about the utility of a Coleman lantern, an ice fisherman said he was with a buddy once and it was colder than hell. His buddy was sitting on a bucket, with a long coat on. He was sitting on a bucket too, but he couldn't stand it for more than about 15 minutes. His buddy was a real trooper, just hanging out there all day. Couldn't figure it out.
Well he had a running Coleman lantern under the bucket, a few holes for air intake and flow. The heat would rise, warm the bucket and his third point of contact, and more heat wafting through his coat. I noticed they will heat a small camper or trailer pretty nicely. Again - ventilation is important, but a well running lantern emits no fumes nor measurable (at dangerous levels to humans or animals) CO or other nasties. If they did - they would have been banned years ago. They also have Catalytic heaters, these are excellent for heating small spaces. They work fine on automobile gasoline as well, leaded fuel having been banned 40 years ago. These are common at yard sales. Oftentimes inexpensive. 2 burner suitcase stove, lantern and mantles, and catalytic heaters. These would go a long way to providing utility and comfort. Yes, I noticed Coleman built in quite a bit of margin on the high side for their suitcase stoves. They get really hot, and they need to - oftentimes it is windy when camping, yes ya gotta get out of the wind, but ... they understood that and designed a little bit extra in to compensate.
I actually never owned a 2 burner Coleman till late in life. I remembered them on Scouting trips and camp outs. It would be cold as hell, and some poor bastard would be up first and start banging around and pumping up the stove, lighting it, and getting coffee or tea going. Great memories. Ernie Pyle wrote about the earliest 1 burner gasoline stove by Coleman, the 530 that was issued to the troops . They were really well loved by infantry squads. This was also called the "Pocket Stove" in the post war version. They must have had big pockets in those days. The 10th mountain troops needed something lighter, and so the M1942 model was born, with folding legs, and was made entirely of stainless steel. These are quite good stoves, if a bit noisy due to the plate burning design. I bought an early Peak 1 400A, the brown tank version. These worked great, and could torch snowbanks into drinking water. I have a Coleman propane 2-burner that's about 40 years old and a Coleman lantern and 2-burner Coleman fuel stove that's 60 years old. They work really well, but really haven't used them since getting a nice inverter generator. The unopened gallon of Coleman fuel must be 30 years old too. Oh, I also have a 17' Coleman Scanoe with a flat stern that can take a small gas motor.

I have a Svea 123 camping stove, I used it one summer to make coffee in the back yard. It is a lovely little thing, and technically you could tuck it in a suitably big enough pocket.
I also picked up a brass kerosene pressure stove, and that monster roars when it is lit and up to heat, and it is slam poetry to use. I also specifically got a two burner "butterfly" kerosene stove of the sort they make in India and Vietnam for home use. Posted by: Kindltot at October 06, 2024 11:48 PM (D7oie) 344

The little patches I did today on the roof are above eye level, and as long as the color matches, don't draw attention. Whole truck really needs a repaint, but is it worth it? Torties are almost always female...it's like 1 in 10,000 are male.
Posted by: GilesOverreach A cat's fur color is on the X chromosome. In a normal XX female, one "X" gets deactivated, but not always the same one in different cells, so a calico or tortoiseshell has a patchwork of two different coat colors. Normal males are XY, so they only have one "coat color" and can't be any of the patchwork patterns. For a male to be calico or torti, it has to be a genetic abnormality with 3 sex chromosomes: XXY. Yeah, I was going to mention the Svea. I used to think maybe I had some sort of mental illness, before the Internet. I had quite the camping stove collection. I would go out to the garage sometimes, or the back deck and start them up and make a pot of coffee or something just to mess with them. I didn't think anyone else did stuff like that.
Anyhoo, I pared all that stuff away. Sitting on a shelf doesn't do anything any good. The Svea is a great stove - arguably one of the best ever all things considered. But they don't lend themselves to a quick spot of tea or a warmup, at least not compared to butane and the small propane stoves. Even the burner attachment to a Bernzo-matic canister is easy-peasy. If you actually want to use a Svea 123 you want the actual 123, in later versions they incorporated an ingenious self-cleaning pricker device for the main jet orifice, but the precise flame adjustability of the design was sacrificed completely. They are pretty much either "on" or "off" with not much in between. Amazingly they are still in production, since 1952, although now made gollly knows where, instead of Sweden. NEW YORK JETS COACH ROBERT SALEH SPARKS HUGE CONTROVERSY BY WEARING A LEBANON FLAG ON HIS ARM IN THE WAKE OF ISRAEL’S STRIKES ON BEIRUT: New York Jets head coach Robert Saleh sparked controversy during the team’s NFL game against the Minnesota Vikings in London on Sunday. The 45-year-old was spotted on the sidelines at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium wearing a Lebanese flag below the Nike logo on the sleeve of his team hoodie. The night before Sunday’s game – the first of the NFL’s international fixtures this season – Israeli bombing continued on Beirut, the Lebanese capital, amid the Israel-Hezbollah war. The Hezbollah stronghold in south Beirut was hit by more than 30 strikes overnight, which were heard across the city, with smoke still seen billowing from the site after dawn, Lebanon’s official National News Agency said. Saleh, who is of Lebanese heritage, previously wore a similar patch last October but his decision to bear the flag Sunday raised eyebrows as the anniversary of the beginning of the war in Gaza approaches. Stateless, as regards THC capsules: Earlier this year I bought some at a local dispensary and tried them for sleep. The improvement, for me, was much smaller than the outlay of cash. A Unisom tablet, one of the over-the-counter sleep aids, and a small-dose melatonin have worked much better.
As regards pain, you know, soreness and the like, the THC didn't do much. Maybe I needed to take it longer. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at October 07, 2024 03:52 AM (omVj0) 460
