83 The artist, William Chaiken, was born in Russia to Jewish parents in 1921. They emigrated to Canada in 1926, and he grew up studying art. He was a background/scene painter for Broadway productions and the Metropolitan Opera, and worked with Scorsese, Fosse and Sydney Lumet.

He seemed to love working in color gradients. Some of the tones of other paintings are vibrant and joyous, but it seems most of his work is variations of gloom. The bio doesn't say why he and his family left Russia, but I imagine it had something to do with the Bolsheviks and pogroms. That could certainly color one's outlook. I like the painting.

I've learned with modern art to go with my gut and that's fine. I like it? Great. I don't like a piece that feels similar to it, is also smears of oil paint swished around? That's perfectly fine.

So, I though Vance did a lot weaker than most here.
He really needs to keep to theme--economy, immigration, inflation. That is, he missed several opportunities to direct his answers back to those, I thought.
Walz said "look" at least 100 times.

But, interesting, the traditional "vp as attack dog" role has been switched--Trump is the attack dog and Vance is the policy.
Walz tried the traditional role, but he got so far knocked off his game he forgot what he was running for; early he was hitting Trump, later agreeing with Vance.

I noted this last night, but Vance wore a fuschia tie that brought out his baby blues and made them pop, plus the color pink subtly appeals to women. Whereas Waltz wore a flat navy tie with a dark suit that made his eyes go dark and flat as well.

That scan is probably late-stage wet AMD. Their are lesser degrees. 'Wet' refers to encroachment of blood vessels into the macula.

For those who may not know, the macula is the area of central vision on the retinal surface. It has the highest density of rods and cones (light teceptoors). When the macula thins out, you begin to lose central vision and start to rely more and more on peripheral vision. If I look directly at an object it blurs or disappears completely. I can see things better if I shift my line of sight about 5 or 10 degrees.

Covid was a bipartisan failure of leadership. At best, the failures were good intentioned.

But they were still failures.

If you want to vote on covid from the point of view that the response was terrible, you have pretty much no one to vote for who was in government at the time. And, considering how American politics goes, you won't have anyone to vote for without that stink for 30-40 years. Minimum.

The Moody Blues are my favorites, even influencing naming of family. Have gone to see them when down to only two performing, and even now with Hayward performing in collaboration with other artists.

Always much more talented than the Beatles, imo. At least we could watch them entertain for decades, not the creation the Beatles allegedly became in studios after their brief, public collaboration.
