There is a rare, once-in-a-generation opportunity here; it’s time for brave decisions.”
Exactly. Israel does not have the luxury of time. A war of attrition favors the terrorists, who are content to conduct low-level attacks from all sides until the Israeli body politic is exhausted and ready for the existentially awful "Two State Solution." Take the gloves off. Let the military planners do their work without political considerations that ALWAYS temper their plans. And then conduct fast unrestricted war against Hezbollah and the remnants of Hamas. Make them shiver with fear, unsure when the next Israeli operation will come, but knowing that it will be fierce and from an unexpected direction. That is how Israel can win its war. I have supported Bibi as much as anyone in this, and he’s better than any other Israeli politician today - but he still tells plenty of bald faced, ass covering lies, and this was one of them.

Don’t count on the UN for anything. People forget the entire mission objective for UNIFIL has been essentially to prevent the militarization of the Blue Line with Israel in Southern Lebanon. Big difference in Lebanon is that the facilities are above ground. It is much easier to do pin point bombing without destroying surrounding civilian infrastructure. I saw a map showing Hezbollah controlled areas next to a map showing the Bombings and it was strictly within those areas. My take is that it will be easier to destroy Hezbollah than underground and better supplied and embedded Hamas.

I'm getting pretty active in local CT politics. I've seen this Unaffiliated label a lot, and it cuts both ways. Reps are either turned off by Trump, or they want to stay quiet and undercover. Dems want to sneak onto local commissions where there is a limit to the number of Ds and Rs on a committee. No limit on U's, as U is not, strictly speaking, a party like Independents are. I'm seeing U+D=overwhelming majority in local commissions, which shift gov't leftward. I think this is happening in other locales as well. Not a good trend.

I'm getting pretty active in local CT politics. I've seen this Unaffiliated label a lot, and it cuts both ways. Reps are either turned off by Trump, or they want to stay quiet and undercover. Dems want to sneak onto local commissions where there is a limit to the number of Ds and Rs on a committee.

I'm not sure this is correct. You're gonna pay regardless. Sure, unions killed their members by striking for ridiculous wages but out of work employees just suck up benefits.
What needs to happen is for the government to get out of the equation altogether. You can strike, they can fire you... that's the gamble you make. When the government started guaranteeing union jobs no matter what, it ensured that unions would overstep the mark.
The boys in the fancy suits get bonuses and we take it in the ass... as usual.

The pathetic thing about this administration wanting a peace deal is that the US is now in a weaker and more discredited position than anytime in the last 40 years. Blinken is reviled and regarded as an out of his depth lightweight by both the Israelis and the Egyptians (remember most of the negotiations were done in Cairo, sponsored by the Egyptians). Everyone over there feels that the US has sold them out multiple times, and Hamas of course has no interest in negotiating at all.

But if they want to produce their Dear-Ohs internationally and then sell them to Americans, that's a border issue and not a business decision.

And one would hope they'd sell the Juan Dear-Ohs for 1/3rd of the price of the Made In America ones, but you know they'd cost the same and keep going up.

The nature of gov't is that it sets the tone for business - that can't be helped. Good property rights policy + good bankruptcy policy = great environment for risk-taking and high-trust contracts, for instance. Trump himself has said that even though tariffs can be inflationary, it's not as binary as that. In an environment that other world governments impose tariffs and restrict free-market activity, US Tariffs can be a great negotiating tool to even the odds. Applied strategically, it doesn't have to be fascistic.

US also makes plenty of cars, just under foreign brands.
In general factories are inordinately expensive in the US(relative to Europe or other forms of real estate in the US) due to regulation.

In general factories are inordinately expensive in the US(relative to Europe or other forms of real estate in the US) due to regulation.
But the foreign brands building in the US have to meet the same requirements as the American companies, so that doesn't follow. I certainly don't defend overregulation, but I very much doubt European regulation is less.

No. The HR teams are lazy and don’t want to do the work. If I can staff an Aerospace factory and a nuclear chemical factory and run the 2 years with productivity and safety records, you can staff a car factory.

Depends on the type of regulation. Regulation is lower in some European states in general.
Cost of constructing a factory building(which is mostly a large box) is far above what it should be in the US. Depending on the proportion of production costs the building makes up, that can be a big deal.
