Teamsters Union Makes No Endorsement in Presidential Race; First Time They Haven't Endorsed a Democrat Since 1996

Now, some of you will say the union members greatly preferred Trump, so they should have endorsed Trump!

Right you are, I'm getting to that. Gimme a quick second. First, the non-endorsement:

The International Brotherhood of Teamsters will not issue an endorsement in the presidential election for the first time since 1996, and for only the second time since 1960.

Teamsters General President Sean O'Brien said "neither major candidate was able to make serious commitments to our union to ensure the interests of working people are always put before Big Business."

"We sought commitments from both Trump and Harris not to interfere in critical union campaigns or core Teamsters industries -- and to honor our members' right to strike -- but were unable to secure those pledges," O'Brien said.

The Teamsters endorsed President Biden during the 2020 election, and has consistently supported Democratic presidential nominees in recent election cycle.

The union notably waited to announce its endorsement decision far longer than other unions and labor organizations, including the United Auto Workers, National Education Association, Service Employees International Union and AFL-CIO, which all endorsed Biden, then Vice President Harris, after the president dropped out of the race in July.

The Teamsters has endorsed GOP presidential candidates, including Richard Nixon, Ronald Reagan and George H.W. Bush, and O'Brien's flirtation with former President Trump and Republicans sparked speculation the union could once again break from the pack.

Now: The union conducted a poll to determine its members' sentiments about the election.

It turns out those sentiments, get this, didn't matter to the corrupt leadership. The members strongly preferred Trump, which resulted in... no endorsement either way.

Ah, Democracy! We must all work to save our precious Democracy, where the people's votes never matter and the Party always picks the winners.

Below, the Teamsters' own data for the race. While Teamsters preferred Biden over Trump in a straw poll conducted a while ago, they now approve Trump over Harris by 58-59% to 31%, depending on the metric. An electronic poll of members says one thing, a "research" effort (which I guess consists of randomly calling members) says another. But both show almost 60% preference for Trump.

The leadership's conclusion? Too close to call!

Andrew Kerr
@AndrewKerrNC

what a load of shit. Teamsters says no presidential candidate earned the endorsement of their members. Polling data they just released shows the overwhelming majority of their members support Trump. It isn't even close.

I guess some Mysterious Crates of Midnight Votes came in at the last minute, when cameras were turned off.

The corrupt, criminal leadership of the union announced a curious standard for selecting a candidate to endorse. If Kamala Hoorish won a mere majority, they'd endorse her, but they would only endorse Trump if he secured a "universal" preference from members:

Heads the Democrats win, tails the Democrats win. The Republicans only win if the coin somehow lands perfectly on its edge and remains there.

That's not an answer. All you're saying is that members strongly preferred Trump, so this should be a wake-up call to Democrats. What you were actually asked is given that members strongly preferred Trump, why didn't the corrupt union honor their preference by endorsing Trump?

All this Democrat operative is saying is that Democrats can't take their endorsement for granted -- even though the Teamster leadership will always endorse the Democrat or, when the membership positively revolts, decline to endorse anyone.

So yes, Democrats can absolutely take your endorsement for granted. Worst case scenario, you'll merely endorse no one.

27 The story here, i think, is that union workers no longer give a fuck what their crooked ass shop stewards or reps tell them to think anymore.

I could take a stab at a guess and surmise that it's because the trades are becoming more and more skilled, requiring smarter and smarter people, so the days of the slack-jawed meat-based automaton just doing what they're told in the shop are coming to an end, and they're starting to think for themselves.

I generalize, grotesquely. But there might be a point there to be made.

In fairness - Powell is screwed. The economy is stalling, all the data is showing it, he knows if he doesn't do something it will hit the mountain. I am surprised they did a full half point - but that just tells me that the economy is actually much worse than we thought. Scary times. Powell is trying to avoid the first 18 months of Reagan's term. I'd be shocked if he thinks this will help Harris, nor do I think he cares. What he is attempting has never been successfully done. Biden's monetary policy has but him in real bad place.

You need to grow the economy massively in the private sector and try to nibble at the edges of the entitlement train in order to be able to even slow the money printing...

94 You can only really do step 1. If you stop the entitlements train or refuse to pay interest on the debt (the 2 biggest drivers of the budget which actually are more than we take in, just by themselves), you probably make everything unglued.

You need to grow the economy massively in the private sector and try to nibble at the edges of the entitlement train in order to be able to even slow the money printing...

Not really another win, but a prediction. They saw that NAFTA was going to gut them. Unfortunately, they made the Republicans such implacable enemies of theirs that they had no sympathy for their cause. Bill Clinton ended up shifting them.

Oh, and they were right, at the end. They couldn't negotiate with management to change that result, however.

Not that I speak from experience, but a small twin-engine is very difficult to control with an imbalance of power.

The pilot, I assume, wanted to feather the prop on the right engine as quickly as possible after touchdown, but still managed to keep the plane in the middle of the runway.

But like the Teamster bosses, they sometimes choose none of the above and stay home, and back when that mattered it could sway an election.
Now your ballot will be counted whether you voted or not, so nearly the whole process in some districts is moot.

171 Much like the black vote. Every cycle we pretend to see some cracks in the near monolithic black vote but it never comes.

But like the Teamster bosses, they sometimes choose none of the above and stay home, and back when that mattered it could sway an election.
Now your ballot will be counted whether you voted or not, so nearly the whole process in some districts is moot.

Posted by: OneEyedJack at September 18, 2024 06:12 PM (FCbAQ)

most of the Black vote is just inner city fraud, every election to swamp the rest of the state's votes and funnel state funds to the cities.

When I lived in South Side Chicago never saw a single person at the polls besides me and the workers in any of the elections.

And no group votes 95 percent for anything, even for their moms.

Yeah, I got one from Oreillys and it wouldn't charge. They had to order another and I told them I'd go next door to Auto Zone. The second one was replaced in the parking lot and and overcharged and was immediately removed. The third one charges properly but started ticking yesterday - still charging appropriately - so I called the employee I was dealing with and he ordered another one to be picked up tomorrow.

245 If you stop the entitlements train or refuse to pay interest on the debt

My strategy would be to start by stopping paying for leftist leaning departments - lay everyone off in HUD for example.

Then start arresting leftists when they do their normal sort of reactions and heavily abuse the federal government's ability to fine. Essentially stop gap the current spending by taking as much leftist wealth as you can.

246 I don't think it was just Sean O'Brien's decision to make. The fact that he released the poll numbers rather than keeping them secret tells me that he wanted the public to know that 60% of teamsters supported Trump. And I think the other big news in that poll, since it was taken before Kennedy basically dropped out. Is that 6% of support very likely went to Kennedy and will very likely go to Trump instead. Which means that in reality, Trump's numbers with teamsters are probably around 65%.

The candidate would probably lose anyway and the GOP would say something about a waste of resources and I'd be hard pressed to disagree.

But run someone in there and let them go nuts. Let them be Trumpian in terms of how they talk. Might be surprised.

So what? Every professional tennis player practices against better players to train them for the rest of their life. Is that a waste of resources?

Worst case you have a lot of young candidates that can graduate out into more winnable districts. You don't need a ton of money if you go and walk around the district and talk to people.

You only need a few thousand real votes to turn some of these races. Look at AOC she got in when her handlers toppled a bigwig by trying.

248 88 The unions must be indifferent that all job growth in the private sector is nonunion illegals.

I'd like to see them try to unionize the cartel-controlled roofers, drywall hangers, landscapers, framers, and slaughterhouse/packing plant 'guest' workers.

249 My father was a Teamster for about 30 years, maybe a little more, I don't know if he changed unions when he went to some other filler job, but my father was never a Dem. I can only think of 2 of his teamster friends, all of his friends were teamsters or potheads, so more than 50% of his friends were teamsters, minus these two, were hardcore republicans because they hated Carter. The 2 that were 100% Dem, were the 2 who were directly active in the union looking for a cush job with the union, one became a . . . "Business Manager?" I think it was called, with the union, and the other just kept sucking that Hoffa cock hoping, only to get fired, because he was a profound racist.

Where I'm from is, or was, the largest hub of intermodal transport, including being the home base of the fleets for Yellow/Roadway, ABF, and I forget the other one, as well as a bunch of other trucking firms. Then you have rail, general transport and just Industry as far as your teary eyes can see through the grey mist that fills the skies.

I knew 2, TWO Teamsters who were democrats.
