Kamala Harris Admits She Intends to Use Dept. of Justice to Censor Free Speech

In a video when she was speaking to the NAACP, Kamala Harris admitted that she would direct the DOJ to censor “misinformation and hate” online if she becomes president.

Democrats hanging out with Communists? No, it can't be.

New York Democratic Rep. Grace Meng has longstanding ties to an organization reportedly linked to a Chinese intelligence agency and alleged Communist Party operatives, the Daily Caller News Foundation found.
The Department of Justice (DOJ) on Tuesday indicted Linda Sun, who served in two New York governors’ offices as well as Meng’s chief of staff while she served in the state assembly, for allegedly acting as an unregistered foreign agent of China and money laundering.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Sun met the “heads of key groups identifiable in the indictment as being United Front-linked, including the U.S. Federation of Chinese-American Entrepreneurs and the Henan Association of Eastern America.”

Do you have a lot of money? Does it burn a hole in your pocket? Do you want something that most people can never have? Now you can own an original copy of the US Constitution.

One of only eight signed “ratification copies” of the United States Constitution and the only one known to be in private hands is now up for auction to be sold on September 28, 2024, the 237th anniversary of the day the existing congress (formed under the failing Articles of Confederation) voted to send it to the states for ratification.

The minimum bid is one million, but it will not be surprising if the auction produces a much higher selling price. The public will be able to view the document on September 13, 2024 from 1:00 pm to 4:30 pm (Eastern) at the Federal Hall National Memorial at 26 Wall Street in New York, the location where that congress debated and voted for the new Constitution.

The document’s recent history is intriguing.

22 The New York Times actually published this today:

Kamala Harris’s razor-sharp debate skills have powered her political ascent. Much of her performance in Tuesday’s presidential debate will depend on whether she can successfully adapt to an opponent best known for his unpredictability.

Oh. My. God.

It is becoming apparent that Tuesday is going to be one of the more important days in American history - if Kamala flubs, or fails to show up, the movement towards Trump will become well-nigh unstoppable. (Trump is now approaching being a 2:1 favorite in the betting markets.)

I'm sure they have some sort of terrible October Surprise planned, and they may well try to block Trump from taking office, but that is going to be increasingly difficult to do if Trump wins by a big margin.

105 22 The New York Times actually published this today:

Posted by: The ARC of History! at September 08, 2024 10:06 PM (uxCna)

Some peoples' children should not be allowed to pick up wrenches. Currently working on an '83 El Camino that came from Idaho. Somebody swapped out the 305 that it came with with a 350 from some other Chevy vehicle. Should be a simple swap right? Hoo, boy! Rear transmission mount off center. They used an exhaust "Y" pipe with the "Y" on the wrong side. Manual shift linkage cacked. Transmission cooler lines pinched and flattened between right side exhaust manifold and upper A-arm. Transmission throttle valve cable: absent. Two bolts missing that hold transmission onto engine.

New cooler lines installed, and properly routed. Manual shift linkage fixed, leastwise at the bottom end. Exhaust "Y" pipe cut apart, awaiting reassembly once the right side manifold is reinstalled. I switched the old starter for a smaller gear-reduction starter. Hope it works.

Starter swap here too this weekend. Right arm looks like an alligator was chewing on it. VW Bus starter died, had another on hand from who knows where. It's a long reach up and back to reach the starter above the axle and next to heat boxes. The top bolt is like 6 inches long and doubles as an engine mounting bolt. The nut for it is in the engine compartment around back of the doghouse fan. No room for ratchet and you can get less than a quarter turn before wrench bottoms out. Have to kneel on ground, stick body, arm, and head in and reach around the doghouse. Old guys bruise easy.

Bottom line, it works now. Took the old starter apart just to see. Corrosion on the plate that holds the brushes must have made a short. Could probably clean and reassemble, but a new one is only about $60. I like to have a spare.

232 Ach, the entry about the Dutch idiot who elected to mail himself to his ex struck a chord with Werner. This was a strategy adopted by Klaus Kinski when he was infatuated with Murder She Wrote's Angela Lansbury. To be fair, he was on the rebound from his unrequited love for the Star Wars Holiday Special's Bea Arthur. Nein, Klaus, I told him. You know how we like to watch Bedknobs And Broomsticks together, and this would make it weird -Werner does not like this image in his mind. I reminded him that Lansbury then played a role that involved murders taking place wherever she was. Klaus, I observed, Occam's Razor suggests that Jessica Fletcher is a serial killer. (Do not judge Werner, you have thought this as well)

The Klaus box went out and 24 hours later, I received a frantic phone call from Kinski. Vern, said he (Ja, even Klaus calls me that, it is my curse) I am in the clutches of the witchy woman! Save Klaus, bitte! He had been mailed to the home of Agnes Moorehead by mistake, and Kinski was terrified of Endora, as are we all. I was able to retrieve him, but the tragedy and PTSD could not be undone. I have said "ach" once before, but now I say it again. Ach.

233 I've been getting an unusual number of "wrong number" text messages lately. I suspect it's some kind of phish but I don't get what the point is. If I were to reply (which I don't), at best they learn

I have gotten several texts over the last few months that are like "hey, are we still playing golf today?" or "are you bringing cake, Elaine?" which are completely unexplainable. I just delete them and nothing further. I also see no point in attempting to verify if I can get texts so no idea why this happens

239 >>Daughter passed me interesting details: Blue whales primarily feed on krill, tiny shrimp-like creatures. During their four month feeding season, larger blue whales can consume up to 6 tons a day. That’s 12,000 pounds of krill per day - PER DAY!

Blue whales are the biggest animals to ever live on earth. The oceans cover the majority of the planet. Krill and other bait fish have been producing in enough quantity to feed Blue whales and other species for thousands of years. Global climate stuff hasn't altered it an iota.

Elon should focus on the oceans instead of Mars. We know almost as much about Mars as we do the oceans. You want to save the planet then save the planet.

But I remember wondering how any woman could just go home with a stranger; the idea seemed awful and sad. I knew I would never be able to do that. Looking for Mr. Goodbar was out at the same time, for heaven's sake, so the idea was scary too. Never understood it.

Mars is pretty hard to land on, being in the sour spot of atmospheric density vs gravity well depth.

On the Moon, there's no atmosphere, thus no reentry heat to worry about, but you do have to do it all with fuel, but the gravity is such it doesn't take much.

Earth on the other hand, with no atmosphere, you'd have to use as much fuel to land as you did to get in orbit. But the atmosphere is think enough, you can just lose that energy as heat (but this means engineering a heat shield to stand it).

Mars is between those two. The thin atmosphere still generates a lot of heat, but isn't thick enough to slow you down enough, so you need rockets or some other complicated thing.

Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at September 08, 2024 11:39 PM (w6EFb)

287 A lot of people did not like "The Martian", but it did point the logistical difficulties of a rescue mission. This is not an 8 second delay in communication, it's minutes. Also the orbits of Earth and Mars. Getting a ship back to Mars is not easy.

Can we do it? Of course we can. We are human beings with limitless capacity to achieve the impossible. God-given intelligence and self-awareness.

The hindrance is, and will always be, the fucking gubmint. Like crabs in a a ship's hold.

One idea is lifting body. Come, get inside the atmosphere, but circle around for a much longer flight path and gradually let drag slow you down enough for a landing. But that means a lot of complicated design to go to Mars.

All the tradeoffs and different approaches are interesting and complex.

295 I remember as little kid space exploration was on everybody’s mind. I was trying to decide whether it would be more fun with a bunch of people (like on Star Trek) or just a solo mission. I must have been a contrarian. I did not anticipate that with Elon Musk Space Enterprises, if I can pony up enough scratch I can go to Mars.

We should, had they (congress) not killed the funding, by this time 60 years later have made flights to the Moon routine. Lunar flybys would probably be in the realm of an expensive vacation. Maybe a Moon base stay would be prohibitively costly for most, but the logistics for a free return Moon flyby should be pretty inexpensive by now.

First crew establishes a habitat, probably mostly underground. Not much different from the current Space Station, but rooted on an inhospitable planet, instead of floating in the void. Build greenhouses for plants on the surface, and add rooms to the underground village. So when the next cohort arrives, accommodations exist.

You've pretty much got to be underground on Mars. With no magnetic field (to speak of), you get cosmic rays and solar wind particles on the deck. Quickly accumulate lethal doses of radiation.

Something concerning is growing stuff in Martian soil (one of the things had in "The Martian" mentioned above). Martian soil has a lot of perchlorates, IIRC, they've discovered, and that's toxic.

And finally there's the 1/3 surface gravity thing, which will be a problem.

Gravity is indeed a problem. Humans have some unknown long term tolerance, 1g +/-a, a being unknown factor. So far, it looks like 'a' is pretty small, long term.

Some just sort of wave this off, "we'll adapt...". Well, I don't know about that. Especially for making babies, you know having a colony on Mars where you have kids and they have kids and so forth.

Pack it with you. Along with algae or other green plants to eat the CO2, and give you oxygen back. And a small nuclear reactor could make enough energy to reduce CO2 by brute force.
Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon
---------------------------------

Not to mention the billion dollar prize to Musk's contest to efficiently break down CO2. It's a 5 year contest and must be close to its year 3.
There are other donors to the prize. At the end of year 2 they appraise the contestants. The two contestants the committee deems most promising receive one million dollars each to assist them to the goal.

Every thing Musk does is something that will give advantage to Mars travel or habitation.

311 >>First crew establishes a habitat, probably mostly underground. Not much different from the current Space Station, but rooted on an inhospitable planet, instead of floating in the void. Build greenhouses for plants on the surface, and add rooms to the underground village. So when the next cohort arrives, accommodations exist.

But that's my point. You could do the exact same thing under the sea for a fraction of the cost and probably an even bigger fraction of the cost of maintenance. Bonus, there is an abundance of edible life already in the oceans. The entire planet already eats it every single day.

Colonizing another planet is a cool idea but at our current state it is a vanity project. And as soon as the first outpost is set up on Mars, Mars Karen will show up telling us why we can't develop it because we will cause climate change.

Really. Try rowing nearing a Navy base with a hundred pounds of explosives. And it's kind of silly to think that if we go to Mars our enemies won't be right on our heels. How do we defend that?

I disagree that we know what exists under the sea because factually we don't. Hell, most of the world doesn't even know that a huge percentage of greenhouse gases come from the ocean. They it comes from cow farts an '69 Camaros. That seems like a big deal but it is largely unknown.

Despite actually living here we don't know nearly as much about the oceans as we should. I don't have a problem with going to Mars, great idea, but if actually care about solving immediate issues like food it's already here on this planet. We already get a significant percentage of our food from the ocean and it's relatively cheap.

Humans evolved on this planet because we can without any external support. If we can find another planet that allows humans to evolve where we can exist without external support that might be plausible. Until then it's just BS.

I don't know why you are shocked, I've been pretty clear on this issue for a long time. I think all exploration is great but I don't think space exploration is more important than understanding our own planet Star Trek not withstanding.

The idea that we understand our own oceans is silly and they have a much more profound effect on our planet than Mars including our politics including the idiocy of manmade global warming. The truth is we know very little about the deep ocean and we frigging live here.

By all means, explore space. But the idea that anyone who is alive today or in the foreseeable future is going to be colonizing Mars is wishful thinking and nobody can even give a good reason for it other than we need to run away from this planet.

I looked this up. From what's been actually measured, there is about 100' of water on Mars. That is, if you melted all the ice, it would be enough to cover the surface to a depth of 100 feet roughly. That's just what's been measured. Most of that is at the poles.

Billions of years ago, Mars was warm and wet. It had a pretty big ocean, mostly covering the northern hemisphere, which is lower than the southern. You can find videos of the simulations of what warm, wet Mars looked like.

I really believe that the Meak SHALL inherit the Earth....

Because the rest of us... those with Balls.... will leave as soon as technology allows us to.

And there is, IMO a genetic component, to cowardice... it does seem to run in families.

462 Win or loose, I assume Kamala will be person of the year. Since they ranked Elon a non-person, it surely won't be him.
As if anyone cares and Time Magazine, the magazine no
one cares about anymore except the elites.
To think that I once subscribed to it and still have some old copies of a worth while read years ago.

There is an argument to be made that Europe is where it is today because it lost a lost of people with gumption/balls to the US and a new start without nobility. Moving here way back when wasn't easy, even for my Hungarian Grandma in 1910 or so. Then those two world wars. Europe now is basically on a dead-end genetic pathway with a low birth rate and will be easily conquered (as is currently underway now).

464 Morning, insomaniacals! I'm on a mission to wake up via drinking coffee. Who's with me???

Like yesterday am, it's less hot than usual now, 77 F. and 70% humidity. I'm going to use this while I can to work out. Yesterday's run/walk on a local 1/5 mile walking trail left me feeling energized, instead of the usual sogginess.

However . . . and there's always a "however" . . . we have a tropical thing forming in the Gulf, and it's going to head north. Hard to tell yet if it's going to miss the city, but almost certainly we will gets lotsa rain. Grocery store run tonight, I guess. . . .

466 On my way to Aldi yesterday, I noted that the bridge in the other direction was jammed. I learn now that a 69-year-old man got on the bridge where I usually do on weekday mornings, then for some reason *veered across all the lanes* -- where another car hit him. He's dead, the other driver is okay.

Yeah: Even at 9 am on a Sunday, the bridge is full of cars.

472 Bood morning, good people. Is this the end of the ONT or a combo of the tech thread? I'm ok with either.

473 Tech Threads arrive like Wizards. When they are good and ready.

474 472 should read Good morning, good people, sorry about the fat finger.

475 Bood is fine. It's late stage ONT. Nobody will notice.

476 "The man, who was not identified, appeared in court, where prosecutors said that he had himself delivered in a box to his ex-girlfriend's home."

He came out of it better than Waldo Jeffers did.
