The Saturday Night Joke

*****

Some people are born with a lucky rabbit's foot up their ass. This guy? If it weren't for bad luck he would have no luck at all.

A FATHER is fighting for his life after contracting three mosquito-borne illnesses from a single bite.

Joe Casey, 54, has reportedly tested positive for Eastern equine encephalitis, West Nile Virus, and St. Louis encephalitis.

All kidding aside......That is some scary shit.

All the comforts of home. At sea. Or, it is all fun and games until there's a court martial. Genius Award Winner.

The littoral combat ship Manchester underway near the Marshall Islands in July 2023. (Navy)
Today’s Navy sailors are likely familiar with the jarring loss of internet connectivity that can come with a ship’s deployment.

For a variety of reasons, including operational security, a crew’s internet access is regularly restricted while underway, to preserve bandwidth for the mission and to keep their ship safe from nefarious online attacks.

Just for shits and giggles today, I started up the new addition to my fleet, and '83 Chevy El Camino, and dunged it out, and pressure-washed everything. Engine, all the under-hood area, the seat, and the carpets, too. Vacuumed much of the water out of the carpets with the shop vac. Car is now sitting on the hoist with the doors open, and a box fan blowing air through it.

164 Ach, Werner has missed the film thread. This is tragic and disheartening. No offense to the ONT, which is most excellent, but the cinematic muse has been my lifelong obsession, except for a brief period touring with the hip-hop collective Wu Tang Clan, a midwestern crime spree with Ayn Rand, a brief period on Iron Chef as Chairman Kaga's Iron Chef Kraut, a battle to the death with the execrable Guy Fierri atop Niagra Falls (the loathsome worm survived somehow), a stint with SCTV made memorable by a tempestuous romance with the fiery ginger Catherine O'Hara, as well as...ach, there is not enough time.

Of Orson Welles, what can Werner say, except that if you watch Citizen Kane with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon playing in the background, it is clear that the album was crafted to synchronize with the events onscreen. That is a wonderment, and Werner is now realizing at this very moment that it was The Wizard of Oz, and also that he who told us that, Bob Costas, was hitting the peyote rather intensely. Werner's real query here is why his body of work has not yet received any critique here? Werner is here, after all, and what is he, chopped liver? Braunschweiger? Ach.

It's not even the Siberian problem. That just means operating costs there are higher, so a resource has to richer than one in downtown Texas. What they are talking about in Ukraine is mostly hypothetical resources, or "inferred resources". We don't know for certain it is there (except for a lot of coal), but elsewhere in the world, rocks of similar age are know to host X amount of various mineral resources, so a reasonable inference is that Ukraine does, too.

A mining engineer, a prospector, and a stock promoter are driving through the mountains. The prospector says, "Look, there's a goat on that mountain!" The stock promoter says, "Holy shit, the whole mountain is covered in goats!". The mining engineer says, "Well, there is a goat on this side, at least."

And mineral wealth does not even exist, as wealth, until you have drilled it off, and proven that you have X number of tons of ore in place, with a market value of Y dollars per ton. You have that kind of mineral wealth, you can get a bank loan to build a mine and produce it.

Well, it would seem that many asteroids are high-grade nickel iron, something like 60% solid metal, since we have found many meteorites of similar composition. If you could find an asteroid of such composition, and move it into an Earth orbit, then maybe you could de-orbit it and have it crash into a desolate area of Earth at a low enough speed that you didn't get a huge extinction event, but have enough there to mine for decades.

Pop astronomy has mentioned a few diamond heavy planets in the past. I assume this is mostly pop with very little astronomy but...somewhere there are likely planets with large diamonds.

Star cores if you could find one would be unlikely to be particularly carbon heavy - iron would be more likely since that is when normal stellar fusion stops.

Well, Goliath came to be a brand of mini car made in Germany in the 1950's. And Habakkuk was a project to build a massive "aircraft carrier" made of mostly ice, to provide a base for antisubmarine aricraft in the Atlantic during WWII. A proof of concept model was built on Lake Patricia, near Jasper, Alberta, and it lasted a year after the refrigeration plant was turned off.

The real thing never got built because longer range aircraft closed the gap.

437 This is another domination show by the Islamists. Here is the main intersection of downtown Toronto, a lawless city. Toronto is the city that Jihadists rule, overcoming existing law. Jihadists can block the street and stop traffic and streetcars whenever they want. "Free Palestine" is a cover for establishing Sharia Law. Wake up Canada!

Yes. The spice blends they sold before the split are still common between them, though they use slightly different names.

The Spice House half are still leftists, I'm sure, but sane ones. In the Michael Jordan "Republicans buy sneakers, too" sense. While Penzey's sends out political diatribe as advertisements.

"The only thing that smells worse than SpiceCo spices is their business practices. SpiceCo dumps spices on the US market to run down local businesses like Pansy's Spices, your go-to spice manufacturer for LGBTQ+ people who are looking to cook up something delicious. Like Biktarvy.

But enough about business. Pansy's is always about the 'bottom line,' but we're so much more than that. We're about love.

Love is love. And more love.

But love isn't about slavery, unlike SpiceCo.

SpiceCo enslaves thousands of Indonesian children in its inhuman mines, mercilessly harvesting the next ounce of pepper and cloves from the sweat of their weary little brows.

Pansy's Spices might not taste as good as SpiceCo's... But at least they're not blood spices."

518 PR has the right to become a U.S. state whenever the statehood party there gets a majority to vote for statehood.

The U.N. has spent half its time for DECADES investigating "human rights" violations/"neocolonialism" in PR. The UN sends investigators down there for that purpose from time to time.

I don't know if there is a formal process, but I suggest having the Navy sail around it three times blowing the main horn, and then having the crew scream "fnck OFF!" at it.

527 I looked it up one time. Spain simply walked away from it after the Spanish-American war. We took it over. As of at least a few years ago someone with at least a grandparent born in PR can claim PR citizenship along with US. Spain has shortened its citizenship requirement to two years residence, I think, and once a person has that they can get an EU passport. Not sure why we keep it, especially after our naval base got kicked out.

533 Talked to a lefty once about Gitmo. He was wondering why we still have it and that it should be given to it's rightful owners (Cuba). We stole it from them after all. I told him the rightful owners are the Royal family of Spain and we won it from them in the late 19th Century in the Spanish-American War. Not sure the King of Spain wants it now though. Spain probably doesn't want PR back either.

DKW was part of AutoUnion, and not Commie. Deutsch KraftWagen, IIRC. They were quite a luxurious little car, compared to the VW Beetle of the era.

Yes.

But they don't have to pay taxes in PR.

If they did, they'd all immediately bolt to places like NY and CA, where the standard of living is better, due to luxurious welfare systems.

Better to toss nickels of welfare at them, than dollars.

Posted by: AlaBAMA at September 07, 2024 09:55

Yes indeed. I sat on our porch and just enjoyed the world where we live. Nights are cool here for a few days, the crickets were chirping, a silver of the moon in the sky, I just took a moment to enjoy the natural world.

At the corner 3 neighborhood boys were coming home after their bike ride, you could tell they had fun. I greeted Preston, next door neighbor and said it looks like you guys had a nice bike ride. He said yes, then I cautioned him...you need something reflective on your bike if you are going to ride when it is this dark.

He replied with some kind of agreement as I wondered how I became the old man next door cautioning the young kids when it seems like yesterday, I was one of those kids.

Got that right.
At least right now they are being flooded by retirees and refugees up the I-95 and I-75 corridors bringing their bucks and inflation with them... which at least adds to the tax receipts vs welfare costs.

Inflation sucks though.

Welfare and tax increases may be more cost effective vs infaltion.
