King Arthur Cafe

Excited good boy.

Cats, man.

Baby flamingo takes the new feet out for a test drive.

What am I looking at here?

Makin' biscuits.

Playing with a seven pound handicap.

Woman rescues a dog.

This may seem cruel, but if you don't teach your dog that three-card Monty is a rigged game, how will he know?

Paragliding under a bridge. (IG)

80 Earlier Werner commented an alarming discovery, pertaining to the return of Brian Stelter to CNN and the ascent of Governor Tim "Knight Commander" V.C. Knight of the Garter, mentioned thrice in dispatches" Walz. This is a dire portent of the rapid approach of the end of days. None less than Nostradamus prophesied this in his famous quatrains, as set forth here:

When comes the tonsured potato with squeaky voice to defame, despoil, and disgust, and with him the Feminine Hygiene enthusiast from the Midwest, then are all bets off. It is like totally over, and Nostradamus rejoices at not experiencing this. Sucks to be you. Much love, Nostradamus out.

The words speak for themselves, ja? The Frog-Seer made specific note of the signs that precede the last battle of Elves and Men, and it only awaits now for the coming of Der Tag. And when that day dawns, or civil twilight, or the shift over to Standard Time, Werner intends to stand in the breach and do battle with the fell beasts from Democratic Underground, or Columbia University, or the Mall of America. Valhalla awaits, and Werner is completely down with Valkyries wafting his soul to its storied halls. Or Cleveland. Miami, maybe?

How's about a law, you make threats against a school, you're charged with a crime.

Now, a lot of these guys deserve it. If they haven't already smacked the old lady, he probably will. And sometimes she'll deserve it.

Werner acknowledges this and its veracity. But it is possible that Austrians stole her away from her human family, or that she is a day-walker, such as Wesley Snipes in the documentary Blade. One would have to gauge her reaction to all the vulnerabilities that are characterisitc of the Austrians - they recoil in horror from crucifixes, holy water, garlic, and gainful employment. Ach.

I came home from class and was making dinner for the family. The chicken was finishing up, but the broccoli and rice was ready. J walked in and said “you are feeding us brown rice and broccoli? That’s it?” I obviously replied no, chicken was on its way to the bowls. I then asked if they really thought I would feed them rice and broccoli only. They stared at me.🤣

Our modern Calvinball way of life is neat that way. Schools receive federal funding so they're federal employees and are required to get the COVID vaccine, but schools receiving federal money aren't subject to federal BATF threats until they are.

I suspect it's pretty handy to be able to make up the rules as you go along based on what you do or don't want to do because you know there's some legislation somewhere that allows it.

178 It's taken ten years, but Trump has gotten really good at shortening his long, rambling answers into short, sound-bitey phrases. He still rambles, but usually before the long-winded answers, he gives a short one that hits it home.

He was just asked about Kamala and her plan to give taxpayer funded healthcare to illegals, and Trump, with a perfect inflection in his voice said, "it's crazy, no country could sustain itself doing that," and then he went on a long rant about fracking and such, but it was that first little answer that'll stick with people

“We” as in Society, have outsourced most everything. An organized, duly sworn professional cadre of law enforcement running 24/7/365 is actually a pretty new development in history, maybe 200 years, barely, and then only in large metro areas.

It used to be the Sheriff would call your ass up, to chase an escaped felon or whatever. They probably did ask for volunteers but it was also a crime to refuse. Sort of analogous to Jury Duty today. They still theoretically have this authority, and a few others. Commandeer your car if they need one, that kind of thing.

Point being, when or if things go south, it would make sense to be organized to watch your neighborhood. When a crisis hits, it’s probably far too late. Who knows how to make a duty roster in your circles? Guard duty. Traditionally or historically falling asleep on guard duty is a Capital offense.

219 Or, I should say it was a crime to refuse an order from the Sheriff if he called up a posse and couldn’t get enough volunteers.

I can see the beauty of the arrangement, the size of the force can quickly scale up when needed, and avoids all that pesky overtime and pension stuff. I Suppose, the modern equivalent should have went like this - Portland or Baltimore, say, is seeking “room to destroy”,

Well you get the County Sheriff to call up a Posse and put those fuckers down. Prevent your town from being torched. The entertainment value would be Epic, too. Daley famously issued a “shoot to wound” for Looters in Chicago’68 DNC. “Shoot to Kill” for Arson. Seems fair to me.

Seems to me a “state of disrder” is invoked, a Curfew, and then the realization “They might kill me” tends to dampen hooligans and the more sober minded.

One of my favorite parts is the opening credits and music - it’s quite brilliantly done.

267 Interesting to read the problems they are having with the thrusters on the Starliner vehicle.

One of the inherent problems, you can’t really test them on Earth very well. They are intended to operate in a vacuum, where the heat radiation (or lack of) is different. Vacuum chambers can be used, but it is a huge pain to A. Find one big enough. B. Get it down to a hard vacuum and C. As soon as thrusters are tested the vacuum goes away. Etc. Also interesting it’s the exact same problems they had back in ‘64 - overheating, swollen teflon constricting oxidizer flow. Practically verbatim.

I’m sure it will be a nominal re-entry but it is unfortunate our politicians threw away so much institutional knowledge and infrastructure. They frontloaded a lot of money for Apollo, and then just sort of gave up.

I can well understand why they wanted to “civilianize” space by the creation of NASA back then but in hindsight that was a huge mistake.
