Trump Campaign ought to do the Unthinkable. Bear with me, here.
As many of you know, I've long tried to inform the Horde, as to their ability to *reliably* stop the influx of NRA junk-mail and solicitations, by simply calling the 800 Membership Number, and asking to have your Membership "Coded as NO PROMOTIONS". Thing is, you have to use Exactly Those Words, as that's what the prompt on their screen is written as. Do so, and three to five months down the road, that mail is all but dead, if not completely so. Trump, Win Red, etc, need a similar code on their lists. If they'd do so, the immediate JUMP in donations would instantly justify the risk. Of this, I am sure. Same reason I won't (for now) buy a My Pillow. Want the pillow, DON'T want to be on Their LIST. Let me buy the pillow without that hassle, and I'm a customer before midnight, TONIGHT. *pours bourbon* ONT Greetings, Horde. CHEERS! I wrote about this earlier, but this is the more appropriate place to post this:
I finished watching the All In podcast earlier today. Two special guests: Reid Hoffman and RFKJ. Reid worked with David Sacks at LinkedIn and is one of the largest funders of the Democratic Party. Sacks is a major Trump supporter. I thought that Reid came off as a little disingenuous regarding some of his funding expenditures, but there is no denying his business genius. RFKJ, on the other hand, was a revelation. One thing he stated was that the Trump campaign initially reached out to him to see if he was interested in the VP slot (?!!). RFKJ turned him down. He said that the VP was basically a hostage of POTUS; if he disagreed with the boss, their budget goes *poof*. He also leaned in on the Unity portion of MAGA/MAHA. He said that Trump told him that he can publicly disagree in areas of disagreement and agree otherwise. RFKJ is really - really - no longer a Democrat. "Finish the job" indeed. A must-watch episode. Hello all, and thanks Mis Hum (as always) for the ONT.
I have a question for Rush fans because I have tried for decades to like them but they just don't work for me. I admit that the drummer is amazing. I admit that the guitars are amazing. Each of them is peerless in their field. But somehow it seems they never hear one another. Each one goes down his own path and does great but disconnected stuff on their instruments. In the end, they have yet to produce anything you could possibly him in the shower. Humming in the shower isn't critical, of course, but it's how I realize there's no melody... no tune... no coordination between the band members. It's just each one doing amazing virtuoso sh!t in their own corner with no ear for what the others are doing. At about :40 in the mystery click they had a chance at some sort of fusion, but by :45 someone hadda come blaring in with a non-sequitur guitar riff and it all fell apart. I really have tried for 20 - 30 years to like them. They're surely great musicians in their own right. Can any Rush fans help me out here? Any insight is appreciated. I genuinely have tried to warm up to Posted by: 496 at September 01, 2024 10:31 PM (wRDB/) 102

Funny thing. I was in a Safeway in Oakland (close to UC Berkeley) about a week ago. I noticed that all the Hebrew National hot dog products were 100% missing. There were a dozen or so racks labeled for the products, but all empty. No other empty racks or shelves anywhere in the store that I could see. I asked a clerk about it and he said i was a supplier problem -- sometimes the goods didn't get replenished on time. I thought he sort of smirked when he said it. Odd. I really can't believe that a candidate who could have reasonably distanced herself from Biden by simply taking a 10-minute car ride to talk with grieving relatives at Arlington - or, for that matter, visiting them just once at any point in the last three years - has now succeeded in tying herself to Biden's failed policies. A more apt definition of 'unforced error' has not existed in American campaign politics in a very, very long time. Posted by: Darrell Harris at September 01, 2024 10:54 PM (0CU3H) 181

To summarize Harris' political career: San Francisco district attorney - installed by the Wille Brown political machine California attorney general - lost to a Republican. In California. Had to rely on voter fraud to "win" the election. US Senator - installed by the California Democratic political machine. Rush's artistry is destroyed by that godawful castrato caterwauling overlaying the music. I can't get past it, and am completely at peace with that. Many/most southern states have the Felony Murder Law; if anyone dies for any reason during the commission of a felony, then the person who committed the felony is by definition guilty of murder.
I vaguely recall someone investigating most of the cases won by an anti-death penalty group and in basically every case it boiled down to a couple of people committing a lessor felony together and the anti-death penalty group convincing a judge or jury it was the other guy that did the actual murder. Well, I don't care. If two people go to rob a house and the homeowner is murdered by one of them they should both swing. Posted by: 18-1 at September 01, 2024 11:18 PM (oZhjI) 260

Felony murder can be a tough sell for a jury. Very fact-driven. I'd suggest never charging it as a negotiating chip, and only charging it if the facts are likely to outrage the average juror. The situation in MO? I dunno. Be interesting to see how it turns out. Might ring the bell. I'd need to know how flagrantly the def disregarded the roof lights; for how long; for how far; how fast. Had a frustrating day today. Needed axle seal and spindle nut for the right rear corner on my '99 Suburban 3/4 ton. No problemo! I have a '98 Chevy 3/4 ton pickup chassis tucked into the hedge line. Should be the right parts, eh?
Fire up the tractor, and haul it up close enough to the shop that I can reach it with the air hose to rattle the parts off it. Well, nothing fits. Well, maybe the wheel cylinders... The 'burb has the "corporate" 10.5" axle with full-floating axles. The pickup had the 9.5" axles with C-clip axles. Brake drums different, wheel bearings completely different, of course. Brake shoes different. So, I ordered parts from Bezos-on. Posted by: Alberta Oil Peon at September 01, 2024 11:25 PM (LuMF/) 280

A stupid girl drove two stupid teen boys to a house to burglarize it, they thought no one was home and broke in. The grandsons owner WAS home, and he shot and killed both of them inside the house. The homeowners grandson, who shot them, was not charged with any crime because of self defense. Progressive Rock burst onto the music scene in the late 60’s starting with King Crimson, and became very well known with groups like ELP and Yes. But they drifted into niche bands as the 70’s went on, and Rush was the only major band able to fuse the inspiration of the Progressive Rock movement with a true Hard Rock sound. That is why so many of us can overlook Geddy’s voice for the most part.

All I know is Dad was very anti-rock. I love him and I miss him, but he hated rock music and concerts. I made up for it later after I moved away from home by seeing, Iron Maiden (first concert ever, Phoenix, 1987), Judas Priest, Slayer (3 times), Exodus (3 times), Megadeth (3 times), Alice Cooper, Anthrax (twice), Testament, Death Angel (twice). And a lot more. I don't do that any more. My ears are shot, and I am old. Death Angel was my last show. That's going on a decade. Werner wanders into the stately halls of the ONT (which is excellence, as always, MisHum) and he perceives upthread mention is made of an idyllic scene in which a bear gently floats across the river pictured. This is a matter of utmost gravity, if I may be permitted to expound further.
It is that, as well you know, Werner is not without experience of the Ursine race, especially their dietary eccentricities. The production of Grizzly Man included much that is grisly - heh, Werner makes a funny, not unlike Mann ist was er isst, ja, gut - and a bear jonesing on his next hippie repast is not unfamiliar. Not all that was shot went into that documentary, which is expected, I know, but I do regret not incorporating some bits, such as the close quarters duel I engaged in with the eldest of the bruins, he with his claws, I with my heirloom Großes Messer, our forearms lashed together with a bandana. Such was to chasten the beast for its lack of discipline but also to build respect and establish street creds, Werner did something similar when he did a friend a solid and filmed one episode of Duck Dynasty. Ach, ein mehr post. Posted by: Werner Herzog Has Opinions at September 02, 2024 12:20 AM (tmPIh) 371

Of the bears I was to speak. Their antics are a ploy. While you witness their endearing japery, their confederate makes his way softly yet purposefully behind you. Like the Sith, there are always two. Your good-natured chuckles are transformed into a gurgling scream, as you realize that Boo-Boo shanked you while you were delighting in Yogi's whimsical exploits. As you are overcome by their brutality, Yogi looms above you and rejoices that their deceit has brought them a nice pick-a-nick basket, and Ranger Smith is not on hand to deliver you from their talons. Were Werner there, the creatures would be challenged to face him on the field of honor, which they would be obliged to accept, as all the apex predators are required to answer the challenge of a Deutsch person, as a matter of professional courtesy. Ach, this got dark.

So, Werner is suggesting, keep one's head on the proverbial swivel, and let not down your guard. You know this, you say, but Werner cautions you to remember that the bears, not unlike Frau Clinton, have no honor and an endless reservoir of deceit. Also, neither of those have signed the Geneva Conventions. Ben, Werner is saying, is not gentle, whatever Sixties and Seventies pop culture may have portrayed. I am thinking now that this should be a public service announcement, or one of those "the more you know" bits with the rainbow. Ja, one of those. Knowing is half the battle, and we shall not sit idly by while Cobra Commander and Serpentor threaten hearth and home. Ja, that. Ja, this is bizarre.

Werner confesses to confusion here. Was the KKK addition in your whimsical spelling the narrative hook by which you sought to capture the attention of those here? Was this, perhaps, in your Raimondo brain, gangsta? Werner feels it incumbent to state that is not gangsta, but merely frontin', and your chances of entering the Gangster's Paradise are thus minimal at best. 389 Bands I wish I had seen, but never will now:
Slipknot Pantera Rush ZZ Top Black Sabbath Posted by: Pug Mahon, Telling War Stories at September 02, 2024 12:40 AM (Ad8y9) Led Zepplin (they were going to be my "first" concert [my mom took me and my brother to see Santana at the infamous Punchbowl show in '72], but Bonham barfed on those plans... Stevie Ray Vaughn I wanted to see him on that last tour, but I was going to school, unemployed and living on a friends' couch during a separation from my X1) Van Halen (not Van Hagar!) Yes King Crimson (though I may go see the BEAT tour...) Genesis (I had tickets in '86 but literally didn't have the gas money to drive to the show!) Jan Hammer (either solo or with Jeff Beck -- who I did get to see in '95 when he double billed with Santana) The 77s Iona Posted by: goozer at September 02, 2024 01:39 AM (aWAkn) 427
Missed Pink Floyd in '95 due to deployment. Still annoyed at that

Soft White Underbelly - never got to see them.

A fine Sam Peckinpah movie. One of James Coeburn's finest films. The studios carved it up so try to find the remaster that was closer to Peckinpah's vision.‘.
I’ve watched a lot of Westerns and this one never hit my radar. I see where the studio reedited his version. It was a Big deal back in 73. N Ot the same anymore Posted by: Biggest Alfredo at September 02, 2024 01:53 AM (8cPKb) 431
Babylon Bee has a perfect headline for the Arlington contretemps:

Love Rush. Wish that I had seen them in my 29 years on this Earth. The same goes for Pink Floyd and Led Zeppelin.

Soft White Underbelly - never got to see them.
Posted by: SFGoth That was the first band I saw. Went by another name, keeping a low profile I guess. Posted by: Itinerant Alley Butcher at September 02, 2024 02:00 AM (/lPRQ) 434
Every headline I am seeing about the Hell's Angels in Aurora has the word "unsubstantiated".
That means it is probably happening. Posted by: Pug Mahon, Telling War Stories at September 02, 2024 12:19 AM (Ad8y9) - Or not. What the hell is going on? I have heard from sources that the Nazgul are heading to Aurora, Colorado. No word if they are going to those apartments where the Venezuelan gangs have taken over.

Bands I am glad I did get to see.
Mountain with Foghat, before the execrable 'Slow Ride'. CSN&Y (1974), also Stills solo (1977). The Stones at Shea in 1989. U2 at MSG in '87. (If you've listened to 'Rattle and Hum', I'm sure you recognized my clapping.) Saw Jorma Kaukonnen (Airplane/Hot Tuna) in a solo acoustic performance at Queens College. Billy Joel at MSG during the '86 World Series; being a Long Island boy/Mets fan, he kept giving updates on game 5 but eventually stopped as the Mets lost. Alice Cooper while in high school (twice). Little Feat w/ Lowell George. .38 Special. Edgar Winter. Uriah Heep. Those are the bigger named acts (that I can remember). Posted by: RickZ at September 02, 2024 02:20 AM (gKDq2) 438
A thought in passing: the odd hours of rainmondo’s posts plus his lack of command of the language make it clear he’s not based in the US, my guess is Easterb Europe
Posted by: Tom Servo at September 02, 2024 02:21 AM (S6gqv) 439
Oh yeah, I did go to see a touring performance of 'Jesus Christ Superstar' while in high school. That was a concert with no free-wheeling jams, just the album as recorded played live. Kinda strange after other concerts.

Raimondo says wut?
Posted by: COMountainMarie This might well be the case. It is likely the Raimondo possesses a low confusion threshold, not unlike the canary that is reduced to slumber when the darkness a cloth over its cage produces is mistaken for night. Ja, for that one he has often fallen, Werner wagers. Posted by: Werner Herzog Has Opinions at September 02, 2024 02:29 AM (tmPIh) Posted by: RickZ at September 02, 2024 02:29 AM (gKDq2) 443
On yesterday's food thread, CBD was kvetching about Chinese garlic and other food items hitting the American table, when we all know what a sewage and chemical disaster China is.

Posted by: Tom Servo This is wisdom - Werner would only add that the unfamiliarity with human speech on display does not rule out Austrians, whose deviousness and iniquity knows no limit.
