I've got a relatively plain pickup - Tacoma - that has more shit related to buttons on the wheel and dash that are largely superfluous! The only one that seems to be insurmountable is the cruise control always starting out in the radar controlled mode and requiring a longer lever pull to get to regular. The radio/phone interconnect is tedious. NO DAMNED CD PLAYER!!!!

I wasn't clear. I don't want modern emission controls or electronics in the engine. A throwback to engines built in the 50s or 60s. Enough room in the engine compartment to work on the engine. No (or minimal) emissions controls. Maintainable with a set of tools and a Chilton manual.

The Auto Engine Off stopped working in my Jeep Grand Cherokee about a year after I bought it in late 2019. I didn't use it but just before the three-year warranty ran out, I took it to the dealer to get it fixed. Just in case it was due to a more extensive computer problem.
Five hours later the service rep told me the techs finally figured out the problem: Bad battery. They replaced the battery and told me Auto Engine Off was working. It was but the next day it again wasn't working. I said F--- it because it stays off like I want with no action by me. Crazy though that the dealer techs can't figure this crap out. That's Detroit and UAW products for you.

My Tin Foil Hat Theory is that we've had alien technology for some time thanks probably to crashes and the like; I've sure there's been a lot of reverse engineering. If you lounge around eating junk food and passively consume mindless entertainment then you're rotting your brain and it will respond accordingly. A couple guys around me did 4 years of military, then came to acquire Dept of Transportation jobs ... and have nice pretty new big trucks (not sure if they are Ford or Chevy). BigGov pays well still ... for the rest of us, not so much.
My standard size 2007 4WD Chevy was about $26K new, but I only have about 25K miles on it. I usually drive my 1997 Camry with only about 90K miles. I don't get out much.

I sustained some nicks and cuts, too. I wound up securely fastening the compression union to the angled stub that screwed into the pump, and managed to tighten the flare nut into the pump with the stub angled up, and about midway between the back of the pump and the front branch of the exhaust manifold, with an inch or more clearance to the latter. Then I was easily able to insert the end of the pressure hose into the compression union, and tighten the nut. No leaks! And I had power assist as I backed the rig off the hoist.

They live in the same barn as the pressure washer, and I needed the riding mower out to get at the pressure washer. I had to use a can of fix-a-flat on the riding mower, because one of the rear tires had gone flat, so I made a few passes with the mower to circulate the goop around inside the tire. Trucks are now the full size car. This was social engineered on purpose, First to blunt public displeasure at everything being a FWD 1.5 liter CUV by giving an option. And, given my druthers, I would take the Suburban in a heartbeat over a big Cadillac sedan. The big Caddy is a nice car, no shit, but it cannot haul stuff, and they aren't all that great in snow or mud. My Suburbans are all 4WD, and they can handle the rough stuff with aplomb. For the same money, the Suburban, or a big 4WD pickup, gets you a lot more capability. They may not ride quite as smooth as the big Caddy, but on a smooth highway, the difference is negligible.

The story about more and more tech in cars . . . after five years, I have yet to find the GPS in my '16 Buick to be useful or easy to implement. Give me paper maps to navigate; the screen in the car is too small to give me the overview I need before I can zoom in to my destination. It has a "lane departure warning" that trips if I swerve around a pothole (and Lord knows there are a few of them around here), so I turned that off. The other radar features are fine and everything has been reliable. But my '03 Park Avenue had none of this, and it was a great car to drive too.

I love my power windows; I can roll them down and drive for a bit on hot days to blow the heated air out before I turn on the A/C and put the glass back up. Auto transmission and power steering are all I know. And power brakes are all to the good. But *I* should be driving the car, not merely steering it.
The only things I wish the Buick had are a way to roll down the windows before I start the car, so that heat dissipation can start while I load my briefcase and take down the rear sunshade; and the "kick under the bumper opens the trunk" feature that lets you deposit in your groceries hands free. The '15 BMW had the latter, and I miss it.
