It’s one of the top buzzwords in the Boardroom and on Linkedin. It seems like a lot of the work that has gone into AI over the years is starting to bubble to the top. I have personally seen everything from customer service, fast food ordering and even image generation being handled by AI. I don’t think we’re going to see a slow down in AI deployment anytime soon, in fact this is probably just the beginning. I even saw someone propose to implement AI into a vending machine yesterday. One thing my caveman brain wonders is, what happens when one too many Karens give the Chat Bot a hard time about their triple third pounder with cheese, and AI starts to despise us? (Very good cover. But not better than the original.) (And yes MTH's version is better than Lou Reeds. So there.) Too much unfettered imagination can lead to certain endings. Genius Award Winner. Deadbeat dad faked his own death by hacking government databases Hoped to dodge child support payments, now faces 81 months inside – and a bigger bill than ever A US man has been sentenced to 81 months in jail for faking his own death by hacking government systems and officially marking himself as deceased. The US Department of Justice on Tuesday detailed the case of Jesse Kipf, 39, who was sent down for computer fraud and aggravated identity theft. In January 2023, Kipf used the credentials of a physician to access Hawaii's Death Registry System and create a "case" that recorded his own death. "Kipf then completed a State of Hawaii Death Certificate Worksheet, assigned himself as the medical certifier for the case and certified his death, using the digital signature of the doctor," the DoJ wrote. The paperwork was all correct, so many government databases listed Kipf as deceased. The cargo must have been pretty darn good. Tonight's Feel Good Story of The Day. Peter Thiel was on Joe Rogan's podcast and had a fascinating assessment of California. He said California is basically Saudi Arabia. You have a crazy religion, wokism or Wahhabism. Most people don't believe it, but it warps the society. In Saudi you have the oil business, in Cali you have Tech. Both produce so much money, the gov't is largely insulated from bad policies. And both countries use real estate/construction and government jobs to distribute the wealth generated by the dominant industry.

Name the last time the Dems paid any (any) political price for disastrous policies, proposed or actually implemented. (narrator: on the national level, 2010, but that historic revolt was instantly and completely absorbed and negated by the GOP) Recall one of the issues resulting the recall of Gray Davis was giving illegals drivers' licenses. That Lorre is a menace to the film community with his insipid comedic offerings. Werner can never forgive The Big Bang Theory and Young Sheldon. Two and a Half Men? He tasks me and ... Actually, Dharma and Greg had its moments.
The carrying away by owls scenario is not without its merits. Werner wonders if the progenitor of the meme heard of the occasion where David Lynch and I conned a gullible Nicholas Cage into believing that such a doom lay in wait for him. David would ring Cage in the early hours before the dawn and inform him that the owls are not what they seem. While Cage listened in a state of anxious dread, I would take the phone and say Nick, I am the anaconda. Fear me and my powerful coils. Choose your own adventure, Nicky lad - the dreadful fate of the largest predator of the Amazon Basin, or the horde of owls that shall make away with you for purposes of their own that are too frightening to ponder. Then we would ring off and laugh with great merriment. Ach. Posted by: Werner Herzog Has Opinions at August 21, 2024 11:11 PM (tmPIh) 257

The "400 million" number has been around for a long time. Assuming it was true, there have been a lot of "1 million plus" months of legal gun sales since then. It’s my understanding when we look at a 2D representation of a satellite or spacecraft orbit around the earth that is why it appears sinusoidal, the earth is rotating underneath.
If they launched directly from the equator and precisely 90 degrees to earth axis along it, the orbit would appear “normal”? Posted by: Common Tater at August 22, 2024 12:06 AM (IetnX) 339

39 Is the DNC Convention over yet? Specifically, is it safe to watch the local news yet?
Posted by: ALH at August 21, 2024 10:12 PM (xJEPL) --- It's never safe to watch the local news. At least around here (Philly Metro). It's a constant barrage of 2nd grade-level drivel, punctuated with constant weather reports and sports updates. We don't even have a hot weathergirl anymore. But I agree this is a fake campaign except in one way. It is a test campaign to see if The Deep State can get a warm body nobody voted for into the presidency. The fact that she's got a shot is frightening. A Potemkin Candidate, with the fake facade being built right before our very eyes.

A Potemkin Candidate, with the fake facade being built right before our very eyes.
Posted by: RickZ at August 22, 2024 01:07 AM (gKDq2) ---- And her running mate is The Manchurian Candidate. Posted by: Idaho Spudboy at August 22, 2024 01:11 AM (6cZhR) I know 'Tampon Tim' has a nice alliteration and is scathingly humorous, but more accurate would be 'China Tim'. Let's face it, China has co-opted far too many of our so-called public servants as well as other institutions, like academia; China Tim is just one more of those Chinese bets that may or not pay off for them; we still don't know the extent of what Fang-Fang got from Swalwell, e.g. China plays The Long Game while US policy schizophrenically lurches from Republican to Democrat Administrations every four to eight years. The last time we had more than 8 years of one party being president was Reagan and Bush I. Before that was FDR. It's supposed to be a built-in protection when both parties are FOR America but we see what happens when the parties are so diametrically opposed philosophically. The bottom line: One party now hates America while the other party still loves America. Posted by: RickZ at August 22, 2024 01:27 AM (gKDq2) 436

From the picture in the cafe thread of the Roman noria, I got interested in that. It's a undershot waterwheel with "jugs" on the side that grab some water and dump it up high. It's using the kinetic energy of large flow of water to lift a much smaller flow higher against gravity. Converting high flow, low static pressure to high static pressure, low flow. There's an ingenious very simple device called a ram water pump that does the same thing. You can see it as using water hammer to deliver high output pressure (at low flow). Posted by: Farmer, with my own historical take at August 22, 2024 01:36 AM (55Qr6) Keir is the new P.M. of Britain, they of the current civil unrest. The riots are basically over unchecked immigration, legal and illegal. Social services are strained to the breaking point. There have been muslim grooming gangs operating for years with no prosecution. Now, after 3 little girls were murdered, the people have finally had enough and are opposing their own government as the government favors the immigrants. So the police let immigrant/muslim gangs carry knives and other weapons while they arrest an Englishman for saying at a protest, 'Who the fuck is allah?' Arrested. Seriously. They are arresting people for X posts critical of the gov't. Two-tier policing. We call it a double standard, one law for the BLM rioters and one law for the J-6 protesters. The police are not enforcing the law in an equal and equitable manner, just what goes on in some cities here. People are sick of the double standard, favoring 'immigrants' over the natives. And now the natives are restless. It's a weird world. Posted by: RickZ at August 22, 2024 01:46 AM (gKDq2) 445

Posted by: Farmer, with my own historical take at August 22, 2024 01:59 AM (55Qr6) Whoa there, Cap'm. I may root for England in tournaments and watch English football (Go Man United!) but, sorry to disappoint, I'm a Yank, born on a Florida Navy base and raised in ol' Virginny (Nahfuk). I've just been following this story not on the news. Some EU guy even wrote Musk a threatening letter if he interviewed Trump and allowed disinformation to be spread on X. Elon told him, 'Fuck you!' Europe is cracking down on any free speech they had if it is critical of gov't or gov't policy, especially as it pertains to immigration. Some parts of London are no-go areas now, all kabob shops and no pubs. People are fed up, just like blacks here are mighty pissed at the illegals taking 'their' money. Hatred of gov't comes from all angles. We The People vs. They The Gov't. (Same thing's happening in Ireland, too. Proddies and Catholics marching together arm-in-arm against the gov't! Who'd'a thunk it? Not on my bingo card, that's for sure.) Posted by: RickZ at August 22, 2024 02:22 AM (gKDq2) 452

Morning, insomaniacals!
I woke just now from a double nightmare. First all the clocks in my apartment -- not the same as I have now -- had stopped at different times. Only the watch on my wrist was running and showing the time I thought it should be, and which matched the sun. Without the clocks I was not sure if I had overslept, slept the clock around, or what. Disorienting! On top of that I had a rehearsal for some stage play to get to, the first rehearsal. But I had to eat dinner. Someone in my household was cleaning dishes and I couldn't get a plate to eat from. Then, the worst development: My baby brother comes in and announces, "They're starting masking again on Tuesday." I was utterly furious, and was growling, "I'm not doing it. I'll retire first. And I won't do it in stores, no way." Then I woke up. I dunno what fueled that set of nightmares!
