THE MORNING RANT - Kamala Harris & Tim Walz: Old School Communists Who Must Be Defeated

Donkeys and Soviet Flag.JPG

Kamala Harris just made her first huge campaign blunder this past week when she proposed price controls on groceries.

There was predictable push back and mockery from those of us on the right, pointing out that Kamala is openly proposing communism.

But Harris’ advocacy of Soviet-style price controls has also received extensive pushback from her allies in the left-wing media, who are now alluding to the fact that the price controls she is proposing on food have a spectacular history of failure. The organs of the left understand that the promise of turning the United States into Venezuela is political suicide, and they want to stop Kamala from getting irreparably labeled as the proud and out communist that she is.

These outlets include CNN: “Harris’ plan to stop price gouging could create more problems than it solves”

…and even The Washington Post: “When your opponent calls you ‘communist,’ maybe don’t propose price controls?”

It is probably worth noting, however, that the Washington Post is owned by Amazon founder Jeff Bezos, and Amazon also owns the Whole Foods grocery chain. I choose not to shop at Whole Foods because I don’t wish to pay a sanctimony premium for my groceries. But Bezos might rightly fear that Kamala’s price-enforcement commissars won’t understand Whole Foods’ strategy of pricing its organic groceries as an exclusive, luxury item for affluent consumers.

Beyond this proposal for Soviet economics, the Democrats’ entire ticket is saturated in communism. The media has been lavishing praise on Tim Walz for his lack of investments, and for his possessing little accumulated wealth. In response, Jeffrey Carter just wrote an exceptional essay at his Points & Figures blog pointing out that Walz’s rejection of wealth accumulation is a scary indication of his status as a communist true believer. Walz’s indifference to personal investments indicates that he believes in full reliance on government to provide for everything he and his family need.

I have excerpted some of this essay below, but I encourage you to read the entire thing, which concludes with this ominous observation, “The fact Walz doesn’t own anything doesn’t make him objective. It says he is sinister. He relies on the government for his sustenance and therefore will do everything in his power to make sure the government expands and exerts control over its minions in order to make sure he stays comfortable.

”The Mother's Milk of The State; Tim Walz Is A Communist Investor” [Points & Figures – 8/08/2024]

Yesterday the investments of the Governor of MN and presumptive hard left-wing Democratic VP pick Tim Walz were released to the public. Predictably, PRAVDA raved about them. At the Free Press, Suzi Weiss said it was “refreshing” that Walz didn’t have wealth from stocks, bonds, or some other source.

The fawning left-wing rag Axios ran an article on Walz's investment acumen.

• His disclosures, both from his final year in Congress and his time as Minnesota governor, also show no mutual funds, bonds, private equities, or other securities.

• No book deals or speaking fees or crypto or racehorse interests.

• Not even real estate. The couple sold their Mankato, Minnesota, home after moving into the governor's mansion, for below the $315k asking price).

Carter points out that while we certainly don’t want elected officials engaging in insider trading on individual stocks, the rejection of investments in index funds and even US Treasuries is extremely revealing about Walz.

Let me get this straight. Walz relies on the mother’s milk of taxpayer dollars to fund his life. He only depends on the “state”, or government.

That’s communism. That’s what people in communist countries do. The state provides for you. You have no worries at all. Of course, then you are subject to what the state says it will do for you. Except in Walz's case, since he is pulling the levers of power he will be taken care of.

Why isn’t he betting on America like his fellow Democrat Warren Buffett says to do? Not one US Treasury instrument in his personal portfolio. Any respectable finance professor from the elite business schools in the US down to the worst community college in the US would agree that US Treasuries are “risk-free assets”.

Does Walz not have any appetite for risk and what does that tell you about him as a person and decision maker?

He doesn’t even own an index fund of American stocks. Why is he selling the future of America? Why is he so pessimistic about America? The American stock market has created the ability for more people to create more wealth for themselves than any other economic engine on earth. Without it, small businesses wouldn’t thrive the way they do.

Communism is literally on the ballot this election.

It’s time for the Never-Trump charade to end. Any “conservative” who still seeks a Trump defeat to “save conservatism” is enabling our country’s descent into Venezuelan destitution. You only have to vote for communism once before you find yourself in a situation that you can’t vote your way out of. We cannot allow that to happen.

With both individuals on the Democrat ticket being proud and open communists, a vote for Trump is now a vote to save our country. The Trump-haters can start on day one of Trump’s final term to strategize the post-Trump future of the Republican Party, but we must all unify now to defeat the Khrushchev/Chavez Harris/Walz ticket.

"Sanctimony premium" is a nice phrase. I shall file it away for future use.

Something to consider: how much of the price of your final goods from any location or supplier consists of the Sanctimony Premium? If you shop at Kroger, you're still paying it - they're still woke, still activist, still nasty - but you're just paying a smaller premium as a percentage of goods price.

One of the reasons that the medical sector is so fucked up and expensive - expensive to the point that we're actively destroying the economy for it - can be traced back directly to WWII price controls (well, wage controls - but wages are just the price of labor).

67 Here’s the stark reality. Suburban women are pulling Kamala across the finish line in places like NC, and making it close in other states like Florida and Georgia. These women don’t care about the economy. They don’t care about the border invasion. They don’t care about the growing use of government against the people, nor do they have any affection for The Bill of Rights. They’re not smart enough to realize abortion is now a states rights issue. They are not smart enough to know what comes next from a person like Kamala. After all, she’s a “woman”. More importantly a woman of color.

So it’s not so much about “Trump Hate”, by suburban women- that’s just a excuse for their lack of intellect, affinity for group think, and bowing to the shibboleths of their liberal friends.

It probably suffocated to death under its mountains of smugness. It was equally likely to have shattered into several contending factions over who would become the most communist, ever.

Capitalism is non-utopian. Non-utopian systems do not all work, but *no* utopian system works.

Socialsim is utopian. It shall be - must be - perfect if it is to succeed. It is thus doomed to failure. Man has not only fallen, he isn't smart enough to see all consequences of every action or inaction. Reality cannot be modeled and planned. Aspects of it can be, but not all of it in omnibus across all dimensions including time.

Good systems acknowledge the inevitability - and even the frequency/commonality - of failure and tries to survive it. Bad systems demand an absence of failure, and externalizes failures onto enemies (hoarders and wreckers and kulaks and MAGAts).

Most systems are bad.

This happened with Hillary!, too. It is so, so stupid. Kamala - like Hillary! - is not a woman. Her genitals are irrelevant. She is a sexless creature of power. She is no more a woman than Hillary! is, or Pelosi. She is no more a woman than McConnell or Schumer are men. Sex is irrelevant at that level of Party politics. You're a creature of raw power, or you're not in the game.

That Kamala - unlike Hillary! - also happens to be stupid is just the shit icing on the garbage cake.

88 So where is the lie in Waltz's investments. I know he's lying. Someone needs to figure out how.
Posted by: Ribbed

From News Nation:

"The couple took home a combined $166,719 in 2022, with just over $51,000 of that coming from Gwen Walz’s income as an educator and the rest from Tim Walz’s salary as governor. He has had a pay bump since then, his salary going from $116,000 to $149,550.

The majority of the Walz’s assets are in savings and pensions. They have a 529 college savings plan for their children and hold life insurance policies along with four pensions between them. He is also likely to be eligible for federal retirement plans.

A 2019 disclosure estimated the pensions to be worth $81,000 to $215,000 and a federal retirement plan for his years of service in Congress could earn a federal retirement benefit of $55,000 per year.

It’s possible Walz could have invested in a 401k-like Thrift Savings Plan, but that is unknown since it’s not required to be disclosed."

No you can't. You can make it take longer to fail, or more effectively maintain power through total brutality, but you cannot make it work.

Sweden couldn't make it work.
North Korea can't make it work.
Cuba can't make it work.

There is no level of homogeneity or common interest that can make it work. There is only *one* scale at which "communism" can even sort of work - and at which it routinely does, though it also fails at that scale all the time - and that is the family.

Families tend to be cooperative and communal. People make sacrifices for family they would *not* make for a stranger. People will accept unfairness to support their own blood. Scale it up beyond that and it collapses. Even the Israeli kibbutzim mostly failed.

Much too long to get into in a little gray box, but I remember an economist from Indiana named Campbell had a brilliant analysis of why central planning would never work. It was because the people in Moscow had no idea what was going on because every layer below them had an incentive to sandbag their numbers, overproduce their assigned quotas, and barter the surplus to other collective enterprises. So the tractor works would produce extra tractor parts and trade them with the collective farm for some extra radishes and potatoes. All across the economy, Moscow had no idea what was actually being produced and consumed.

When expanding into foreign markets, they divvied up countries. "Aldi" in France is Aldi Nord. "Aldi" in Italy is Aldi Sud.

The US was too big and the market too fractured to do that. In the US, Aldi Sud broke in first and took the "Aldi" name. When Aldi Nord entered a couple of years later, they couldn't use the Aldi name. They chose "Trader Joe's" instead.

Aldi Nord is the weak sister domestically. Trader Joe's is much smaller than the domestic Aldi brand.

149 Much too long to get into in a little gray box, but I remember an economist from Indiana named Campbell had a brilliant analysis of why central planning would never work.

This is a basic premise from Mises and Hayek. They called it the "Socialist Calculation Problem." Even *if* your economic commanders are all intelligent, honest, reasonable, rational and free of any personal ambition or conflict of interest - even if they are perfect men, in other words - it is *still* impossible because value discovery is still imperfect and, in fact, made worse under socialism due to the lack of effective signaling.

Depends on the person, of course. And it often doesn't apply at all. Plenty of people hate their families, or hate certain members of them.

Something loosely definable as "socialst-ish" *can* work at family scale, but it doesn't have to and often doesn't. But it absolutely can *not* be scaled beyond that.

I'm kind of surprised that I've kept it up for so long, to be honest.

I have so many failed attempts at regular routines, but I've kept this one for more than a year and a half (except the month or so when we moved last year, which was another kind of physical).

I take Second Junior to daycare, and it's just workout time. MiL is here this week, so I don't have to take him to pre-school, and I wondered if I'd actually do the workouts. I did. Who am I?!

Um, no. Lying is when someone claims something that he knows is not true. "It's not a lie if you believe it", is sort of true, if you squint.

Modern education stripped out all of the classical traditions of inquiry and Reason, and as should be no surprise, are not taught to think any longer.

They can't separate ideas from personalities. Principles before personalities. This is beneficial from their perspective, because their ideas suck, and always will. So if you can't pound the law, pound the table. "Mob rule" is the most effective way to turn the existing system.

Printing is inflationary, and what we are doing is pretty much going to be hyperinflationary real soon.

454 Saw "ALIEN: Romulus" this weekend.

No real Spoilers; Still a bit kinda sorta spoilery.

Basically, it took bites out of the first 4 ALIEN movies, and blended them together, ultimately, focussing most heavily on 1 & 4.

And, unfortunately, Romulus is being used as a bridge to bring Ridley Scott's terrible "Prometheus" crapola back into play, so expect that as the next movie.

On the upside: TJM will be thrilled.

I rate the ALIEN movies in the order 1, 2, 3 Romulus, 4, rest of the crap.

Romulus starts out great but surprisingly loses steam when it should just get going. The Xenomorph itself plays a shockingly reduced role, which IMO is a mistake.

Check it out.

But comedy is funny when it pushes boundaries. The ability to do that to someone who disagrees with you and make them laugh is an art.

Seems staged. The camera is somehow locked down on that exact position, like it was set up there on a tripod ahead of time. It isn't the usual cellphone video where someone is holding the camera. Plus, the woman is completely over-reacting.

480 there simply are not enough conservatives who give enough of crap to get off their asses and vote.

I feel this frustration. According to the usual voting returns, Leftists outnumber conservatives 2 to 1 in my town, partly because of the university students who for some godawful reason are allowed to vote in local elections, and partly because 75% of the potential conservatives in town are under 18.

That should be forbidden, and it's blatant fraud that it isn't.

Most college students on campus are *not* residents. Some are, and if it's a commuter college then it's more likely, but most traditional on-campus college students are from out of town. Their cars are registered at home. They sign 9-month leases. They go home for the summer or on breaks. They are *not* residents. They should be voting absentee in their actual residency districts, not at college.
