Julie Le Brun (1780-1819)
Looking in a Mirror Elisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun French 1787 During her lifetime, Vigée Le Brun was France’s most famous woman artist, and she was highly aware of how important her self-presentation was to the Parisian art world. In 1787 she submitted to the French Royal Academy’s Salon three portraits of her daughter, Julie, including this one—a tacit nod to the fact that her ability to create encompassed but was not limited to motherhood. Julie is shown both in profile and straight on through the inclusion of a mirror. The deliberately impossible perspective results in a double image that draws on earlier artists’ allegorical figures of Sight and debates about reality versus illusion in painting. ==== Died young. #51 Doh! The daughter's years were 1780-1819 and not the painter, Elisabeth who was 1755-1842.
Jeanne-Julie-Louise Le Brun[1] (married name Julie Nigris; 12 February 1780 - 8 December 1819), nicknamed "Brunette", was the daughter of Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun, and was the model of many of her paintings. Élisabeth Louise Vigée Le Brun 16 April 1755 – 30 March 1842),[1] also known as Louise Élisabeth Vigée Le Brun or simply as Madame Le Brun, was a French painter who mostly specialized in portrait painting, in the late 18th and early 19th centuries. A beautiful and creative portrait of the artist's little girl. The non-descript background makes the girl and the mirror really stand out. The colors are gentle, the skin tones seem appropriate for a young child, and the brushwork is smooth and subtly blended. It is entirely charming. Even the decorations on the mirror frame speak of 'little girl'. But the off center placement of the mirror and the girl's full face reflection which looks right at the viewer is what grabs the viewer's attention. It is not discordant but emphasizes the face, which is what the girl sees, instead of her figure.
Effective and creative and has the feel of being spontaneous. It's easy to see why the artist was hugely popular as a portraitist. Framing art...
I have 2 old Japanese lithographs that, if hung side by side, make one scene. I had them individually framed and they are hung thusly. Cost a small fortune to get a proper frame for each. Would have been triple the cost to have them mounted side by side under one piece of glass though. And probably require extensive hanging hardware. But, yea... it's worth it for the final results. Vigee Le Brun was one of Marie Antoinette's preferred portraitists. She did very well although she left France for Russia during the Revolution. Years and years ago I remember what a big deal it was when the Columbus art Museum got one of the artist's Russian portraits. I was lucky to see it many times.

Will the Morbidly Rich Ever Go Back to Being Good American Citizens? Thom Hartmann: 'With the election of 1980, Americans — most unknowingly — chose great wealth over democracy, oligarchy over a middle class, billionaires over working people.'
I lived through it. This question assumes that the rich ever were 'good citizens', or just the ones that got the societal model to accept the concept that being rich basically makes you a 'good citizen'. There is no incentive for them to ever be anything other than what they are right now. Greedy and narcissistic. It's all about them. No one else matters. Nope. Their wealth needs to be wiped out. They need to be held accountable for the damage that they perpetrated. When they have to pay their fair share, they will wander off to Monaco, Saudi, wherever else that will pamper them in exchange for their spending. Many are buying up New Zealand for unknown reasons. "Morbidly Rich" is a phrase that deserves to be disseminated widely. I remember Reagan praising the money-changes as if they were the ones who created wealth, when all they really do is move money in circles, taking a little off the top. In 1787 she submitted to the French Royal Academy’s Salon three portraits of her daughter, Julie, including this one—a tacit nod to the fact that her ability to create encompassed but was not limited to motherhood.
Posted by: rhennigantx at August 16, 2024 09:33 AM (gbOdA) The painting of her daughter during conception is renowned for the rendering of the complexities and nuances of the situation. Alas, it is rumoured to be in a private collection, unavailable to the public. The whispers in the art world are that there are several variations of this event, each with the artist captured in various positions. Weird is so last week. The new word is creepy. You need to update your NPC programming before you get deactivated.
Posted by: Duncanthrax Dude...try to keep up. '"Weird" worked great. "Creepy" is good, too. Next: Skeevy. You forgot, Stinky/ Smelly shitsinpants. The point of "weird" and "creepy" is they are not vulgar, which is a turn-off to many. Imagine if Stephen Miller were in your high school class, and you wanted to describe your skin-crawling distaste for him without being sent to the principal’s office. "Weird" works because it describes them so well and people know exactly what it means when applied to these sick f**ks. It should be repeated as often as possible for maximum effectiveness. If you constantly change the branding then you end up with a meaningless, ineffective mess. Rachel Maddow periodically uses the word, & it's very expressive! It conveys a lot of ick-ew without being vulgar. I love skeevy! Creepy is good, but lots of things can be creepy. A spider. A deserted alleyway. Your neighbor looking in your window. But skeevy is a male who behaves in a certain way. Every female alive knows exactly what it means. >>Some great spin from a radio "news" program. Auto insurance saw a decline as it was only up 18% in July year over year, vs 23% in June.
Basic economics is hard, apparently? Wow, you can smell the flop sweat from here! Just like when a GOP president has good statistics, they report it as a failure to meet "expectations." See, unemployment is down, but those nameless, clueless economists expected it to be down by a half of a percent more! Posted by: Lizzy at August 16, 2024 10:43 AM (Pijte) 296

On May 26, 2018, Brandon Straka shared a video about why he was walking away from the Democrat Party. That video went viral and launched the #WalkAway Campaign, a movement that led to hundreds of thousands of people sharing their own stories and videos of walking away from liberalism and the political left. Now, 6 years later, Brandon follows up his original video with the first ever "sequel" to it. In this new video, Brandon states in rapid fire succession all that the left has done to erode and destroy our culture, our country, our values, and our freedom. https://t.ly/PF4S_ / share with others Posted by: Divide by Zero at August 16, 2024 10:44 AM (RKVpM) Posted by: Joe Biden, Art Critic-President at August 16, 2024 10:44 AM (eDfFs) 302

"Enduro Racing" is also great fun. 65-80 junkyard quality cars start the race. They water the curves to make them slick, add big barrels of dish soap to the course, and it's mayhem all the way. Cars that break, wreck are mostly left on the course, they just get the driver out. Last one I watched had 66 start the race, 10 finished.

51 Julie is shown both in profile and straight on through the inclusion of a mirror. The deliberately impossible perspective results in a double image that draws on earlier artists’ allegorical figures of Sight and debates about reality versus illusion in painting.
