A chick with boobies.
Wait, I mean a booby with chicks.

Border collie herding challenge.

Getting caught in the machinery at work. He's saved, but it's scary.

Hand feeding a giant bear.

He's the Carrot Top of billiards trick shots.

Outdoor plumbing.

Bird's nest soup.

At high altitudes, you can see that rainbows are circles and not just arcs.

Gojiro...?

Nice rack.

All magic is dumb.

Something must have possessed me:

NEW: Harris will propose providing up to $25K in down payment support for 1st time homeowners, with more generous support for 1st generation homeowners, according to campaign official
She'll announce tomorrow in NC, along w/ her plan to ban corporate price-gouging on groceries
campaign official tells me Harris-Walz administration would provide working families who have paid their rent on time for two years and are buying their first home up to $25,000 in down-payment assistance, with more generous support for first-generation homeowners.
More on Harris housing plan:
-call for construction of 3 million new housing units
-tax incentive for building starter homes
-lower rent by taking on corporate & major landlords
-stop Wall Street investors from buying up and marking up homes in bulk
Harris will also propose a $40 billion fund to help local governments find solutions to the lack of housing supply. It expands on a similar $20 billion fund proposed by the Biden administration.

One night, an ammunition box ordinarily secured to the side of an M60, fell off. Somewhere. At some point during the night. In the dark. Somewhere. Not by me, but it doesn't matter.

I remember this well, because it was one of my few scheduled days off ever, and I spent it most of the day flying around Macedonia looking for a green ammunition box that could be anywhere on the ground, who knows. 129 Commanders have to sign for EVERY THING when they take command of a company. Right down to tent pegs and light bulbs and cots, all the way up to end items like trucks or helicopters.

Then they hand receipt or sign over everything in the quantities prescribed to the different platoons, and squads, squad leaders. Sub-hand receipts. Ultimately though, a paper snafu can cause headaches.

I remember a commander was "missing" a hydraulic hand cart, used for pumping up oleo struts or brake jobs, things like that. About 25,000 dollars per. It showed up eventually, can't remember what it was, but he was on the hook for it if it (or appropriate paperwork) didn't turn up.

Here's one. Picture at link. USA Today:

"...(Amy Eichberger) decided to level up, getting her bachelor’s in public health. Then, facing lackluster job prospects, she pursued a master’s in health care administration. Eventually, she went back to school again, completing a two-year graduate program required of her current job.

All in all, she owed $349,769.18 for that education.

Americans now hold $1.7 trillion in student loan debt. Nearly two-thirds of that money – at least $929 billion – is owed by women. "

This has caused so much damage. that lady linked above is a perfect example. She made a bad career choice and instead of finding something that she could do (tons of city and county and state jobs hiring with great benefits) she decided she needed another degree.

There are outliers that go back to school to become lawyers or dentists or the like, but going back to school to get additional worthless niche degrees has destroyed so many dreams.

But that's the point. Schools aren't for education. They're for administration. As long as those loan checks auto-deposit they couldn't care less.

181 California Democrat Revives Bill To Release Longtime Convicts Who Have 2 Murder Convictions
https://t.co/JoKrdsf2aY

How many murders is too many to get out of prison?
Apparently three, according to a California Democrat who has recently revived a bill that would grant early release to prisoners serving life sentences without the possibility of parole - a sentence which is typically reserved for those who have committed the most violent and egregious crimes - murderers, rapists, and repeat offenders whose actions were beyond the pale.
However, under SB 94, spearheaded by State Senator David Cortese (D), the doors could soon be open for some of these offenders return to society...Those who have served 25 years or more could petition for early release, with eligibility based on a range of factors including "childhood trauma," military service, cognitive impairments, and even age-related conditions that supposedly reduce the risk of future violence.

Years ago, the big (15#) neighborhood tabby befriended me. He was verrry friendly. He'd visit and come in every week or so. After a few hours he'd want to go out. One night I decided to see how far he'd push it. Toonses goes to the front door. I ignore him. He comes back, looks at me, goes to the front door. Again but runs to the front door. Finally, he comes up to me and swipes at me with his paw. Ok. Ok. He eventually moved in permanently. Today is the 13th anniversary of euthanizing him (cancer). He was such a cool, smart, and people-friendly cat.

Khin had an easy-going and great sense of humor; he appeared on stage with Imus, Chuck Bernie, and the gang. I really got a kick out of his deep, raspy talking voice -- and when the broadcast ended, I yelled to Chuck "Hey, if you ever need someone on air to be B-1 Bob Dornan [whom he sounded exactly like] -- you can use Greg Kihn!"

Chuck chuckled ... and said "Yeah, you're right!"

The WaPo, basically the propaganda arm of the DNC, just put out an article titled "When your opponent calls you a communist maybe don't propose price controls?"

If you don't think a communist takeover, exactly what is happening here and other western countries around the world, is substantive than I don't know what is. People aren't stupid. They can see what's going on. Defining your opponent is Politics 101 and Trump is doing a very good job of pointing out that Harris is the most far left radical, yes communist, nominee ever.

April, 2024: In a Friday press release headlined simply “Canada’s Housing Plan,” the Prime Minister’s Office laid out a plan to “unlock 3.87 million new homes by 2031.” … “Canada can and will solve the housing crisis,” read an attached quote by Housing Minister Sean Fraser.

June, 2024: Canadian building permits dropped again in June by 13.9%, continuing the trend of a softening property market despite the government’s attempts to accelerate housing development. According to Statistics Canada, the decline in June was even greater than the previous month, which saw permits drop 12.2% in May and the data is even worse on a year-over-year basis, where the overall value of permits issued in June has dropped by 21.6%.

Regarding the heavy cat story. Our neighbours had a beautiful huge dog named Princess. I don't know the breed. Beautiful, friendly hairball.

Our dog and Princess weren't on leashes or anything. They were friendly and stayed in the yard.

One summer, Princess kept coming into the garage where we had a food bowl full of dry dog food for our Lassie. Princess would lumber over, plop her butt down, one huge paw on one side of the dish, other huge front paw on the other side of the dish and she'd finish off the bowl. No big deal. We didn't care.

A few weeks later, our amazingly wonderful neighbour comments that Princess has been on a diet but just didn't seem to be losing weight......

284 [Since Megyn Kelly's name has come up:]

Began listening to the latest book by her husband, Douglas Brunt, entitled "The Mysterious Case of Rudolf Diesel: Genius, Power, and Deception on the Eve of World War I."

It seems that the inventor of the Diesel engine was found floating dead in the English Channel in 1913 -- months before the breakout of WW1.

Two people wanted him dead (it's speculated): John D. Rockefeller (owing to being an oil tycoon and the threat that Diesel posed); and German Chancellor Otto von Bismarck (because Diesel was going to allow his patented engine to be purchased & used by The British for enhancing their war-making ability).

Sounds fascinating ... and Diesel hasn't gotten any real acknowledgement for his revolutionary new technology since.

Meh. The purpose of language is to communicate and the purpose of grammar is to aid that communication. Form follows function so if you are easily understood when you say "command sergeant majors" and it's easier to say/think "command sergeant majors" rather than "command sergeants major", then the former becomes the appropriate grammar. English is not like French where a guillotine-wielding academy will execute you if you don't follow their edicts to the letter.

New carriers don't know where anything is, once you learn the scheme or the routes after a while, you can think about other stuff, do it in your sleep. Not before however. 20 dollars an hour isn't enough, none of those benefits kick in for 6 months, etc. They will put you on a different route every day filling in, and it sucks. Then head back out to complete other routes. Most of the people who bitch about the Post Office wouldn't last a whole day, LOL.

I heard that in Whole Foods the other day. Another other day, J.J. himself remarked that he had the same obscure mishearing that I did. Can't remember the song, but it was good to have quality confirmation. I misheard most of AC/DC's Highway to Hell and I won't post what i did hear.

348 Man. I was just chatting with my friends daughter who moved to Jacksonville.
She has been there 2 years and STILL hasn't experiences true southern cuisine.
Neither the deli at Piggly Wiggly, nor Waffle House, nor Shoney's.

350 Another carrier and a supervisor were out delivering mail about 10 pm back in the lockdown days. Somebody drew down on them, thinking they were an intruder. Which were they were, kinda. Ordinarily there is no mail delivery at 10 pm.

I like how all the shipping services just said "F>> it" with respect to signature required deliveries.

mentioned it on a morning thread the other day, but I saw a meme on one of my daily sites that said "Denny's is just a Waffle House for people who don't know how to fight". It made me chuckle.

366 Recently somebody posted a link to a depressing 5-minute video "Detroit - Feel the Ruin, America. (Set to Bridge of Sighs, Robin Trower)."

youtube.com/watch?v=eYUbu_EPAwk

Always loved that song, and didn't know where the title came from -- so looked, and there is such a place in Venice (built in 1600) between a prison and an interrogation room. Prisoners would sigh at their last sight of Venice before going into prison.

Trower liked the sound of a racehorse with that name ...
