Good Morning Kids. Sure the horrendous jobs report is nothing to gloss over. But with trillions in monopoly money dumped into the economy over the past several years, along with massive borrowing and on top of it, a welfare state and open borders, and the decision to destroy a major foundation of the traditional American economic miracle, the petrochemical industry, is it any wonder that the markets in Japan and elsewhere are tanking right now with the prospect of Kamala Harris being given the car keys, or bus keys to an exploding electric bus. Yes, the epicenter of the current tanking is Japan but the ripple effect is immediate. Ironic that today is Hiroshima anniversary day.

For the last three years, it has felt as if markets were waiting for the other shoe to drop. Today, many believe that it has finally done so. Japanese markets crashed on Friday, and even more on Monday; the Topix plummeted 13 percent, a drop not seen since 1987. Global markets followed suit. One might write this off as just another day of volatility. The worry, though, is that this is something much worse: the start of a bear market and a long-feared recession. It’s too soon to tell; markets have been jittery for a long time. But the turmoil does show that we have become over-reliant on monetary policy as the solution to our economic problems.
Since the pandemic, markets had risen—a lot. The S&P 500 was up, just last week, 133 percent from its pandemic lows. Its strength mainly owed to the Magnificent Seven tech stocks. Even if you think that artificial intelligence will be the greatest thing ever to happen to the United States economy, such high valuations this early in the innovation cycle are hard to justify. It also seemed unlikely that inflation would be defeated without a significant slowdown; a soft landing had never happened before.
Despite all these concerns, markets mostly kept climbing, and the economy remained strong, though it never felt completely secure. A recession always seemed in the offing, once something finally broke. Perhaps it has now.

Still, the great Milton Friedman was right, you cannot have a welfare state and open borders. Yet, as I touched upon at the outset, that's just the tip of the iceberg of radical egalitarian socialism/communism whose home is the anti-American Left and Democrat party, and businesses that go along to get along.

Why do our Democratic friends keep wrecking the economy?
It all comes down to the binary of gifting your supporters and going to war against the enemy. So every Democratic administration decides to throw more money at free health care and maybe start a war.
It’s odd how often our Democratic friends start a war right after a presidential election: Woodrow Wilson in 1917, FDR in 1941, Harry Truman in 1950. And LBJ waited until 1965 to really crank up the Vietnam war.
You and I think about the economy: our jobs, careers, getting inflation down and growth up. But politicians don’t. They think about heroic deeds, like bashing the Kaiser, taking out Hitler and Tojo, sorting the Commies, and “tackling” climate change. Why do they do it? Because wars are what rulers do. They can tax and spend and inflate to their hearts’ content, and if all the taxing and spending and inflating impoverishes the people, well, it’s all in a good cause: saving the world.
And when there’s no war, then politics is all about taxing the rich and helping the poor. . .
Let’s look at things another way. Suppose there was no climate change to fight. Suppose there were no oppressed peoples. Do you see the problem? There would be nothing for national governments to do. There would be nothing for headline politicians to do. There would be nothing for devoted activists to do. There would be nothing for government bureaucrats to do.

For the media, these “insurrectionists” were guilty until proven innocent.

Influencing folks to do those jobs, rather than collecting government entitlements seems to be somewhat of an important step toward economic recovery.

Most all of our problems, outside natural disaster tragedies like earthquakes or fires, etc., are completely self-inflicted. Many decades of mismanagement and purposeful destruction. Congress, the courts, and the "legal system". Eventually, as each generation passes there is no one left who remembers, and the cycle starts anew. Talk to someone under say, 40 or 45 and they have very little knowledge to draw upon to make any conclusions, unless and until they do their own "due diligence". The "schools" and the "news" are of no help whatsoever in too many instances. In fact they are the problem.

It is a damn shame.

As a kid growing up in NYC, every apartment building had a central shaft where you would throw garbage into and the garbage would be incinerated around 6pm.

I've gone from 209 to 182 in about two months. Laying of carbs (avoiding sugar, limiting bread and rice) is about two-thirds of it and maintaining exertion (walking or yard work) is about one-third.

163 Getting the fat off is the "easy" part. Well not really, but statistically not too many are successful keeping it off.

You'll have to find a lifestyle that you can maintain over time. I happen to like (some) carbs, and have to keep a weather eye on total calories, but I've managed to stay at 180 for over 5 years now. I do abuse my pancreas still, a quart of ice cream now and then or other red line carbohydrate bombs.

I encourage everyone to become familiar with intermittent fasting. Missing a day or two of food altogether should not be a big deal, but I suspect it is with a lot of people. And the way things are going you might have a leg up. I know if I eat a whole pizza and a quart of ice cream, I don't need any calories for a while if I want to average out for the week. So skip a day! No big deal, and with practice you won't be hungry. I know this sounds strange but it's true.

It's not always easy to eat right, but it is SIMPLE. Only in America could "losing weight" become a complex, expensive, and horrible failure en masse.

And if you can skip a day, the second consecutive fast day is easier than than the first. Go for two!

I use a randomized schedule where each week I have a day that is either fast, 20-4 IF or eat whenever, determined by basically pulling a 4/4/3 (four fast, four 20-4,normal) out of virtual hat. Over the course of a week the odds reduce for each mode selected. If 20-4 is randomly selected, then the next day's odds are 4/3/3, and so on. Sunday is automatically a Normal. Looking over the history, back-to-backs happen each week more likely than not.

You insulin resistance will thank you.

Fasting also gives the digestive system a break, blood pressure improves, blood lipid parameters, quality of sleep, alertness levels.

The really cool thing is eventually, one realizes it is more about health overall, than (perhaps) the vanity of being thin-er. I do very much enjoy not hauling around 75 pounds up and down the stairs and such. I still can't believe I did that. Getting winded trying to put on shoes is not a training program.

This was always an idiotic slander, I remember arguing it with fools in years past. First off, it’ comes from a California policy in the 60’s, there was never any Federal action in the 80’s. That part was just invented.
Pat Brown, Democrat Governor, put in place a program to de-institutionalize most of the mentally ill, the State Board of Psychiatrists agreed; in fact it was their plan. When Reagan became Governor two years later, the plan was well underway and everyone thought it was a good idea then, so he left it alone.

I've heard of others where it took a while to resolve. Usually there's more then one pathogen involved in those cases.

Superficially, it is riots are over the country's "quota" system for government jobs. A lot of government jobs are are earmarked. Most of the jobs are assigned to mandatory distributions of positions for women, minorities, people from undeveloped parts of the country and - probably crucially - the children (and now grandchildren) of veterans who fought in the war of independence from Pakistan.

I suspect - though do not know - that it is the last piece that is the important bit, and makes it a potentially bigger story than internal unrest in the third world. Bangladesh is majority Muslim and was a part of Pakistan - albeit geographically disconnected - following the Partition. That lasted a while before Bangladesh decided it didn't really want to be part of Pakistan. India was involved in that conflict, too, of course, and fought Pakistan on Bangladesh's behalf.

If the "quota" kerfuffle is just a veiled Islamist action and rapprochement with Pakistan is the real ambition, that could have fairly significant regional implications.

There is no way this ticket can win based on their record. The down ticket races generally are driven by turnout, especially in a co tested seat that is a toss up. PA - still has all mail-in ballots. But, favorable court ruling that doesn't allow them to count late received or mailed.
WI - Drop boxes are back. But, everyone gets an absentee ballot is out.
GA - a lot of changes to who and how counting is done. Especially in recounts. But Kemp is a nasty wildcard.
AZ - dropboxes are still in. "anything goes" on sigs, is illegal but reality is up in the air; SCOTUS "UR citizen?" lolgf, may go either way?
The AZ decision is also important for NV. Who YOLO'd on sigs.

Anyway, they don't have the height of the Covid panic (with daily death counts blamed on Trump), 4 years of Trump fatigue and Mr. Moderate running.

517 Electorally, the hope for the Dems is that the Walz pick helps them hold onto Minnesota and reclaim Michigan. If they take those two, then assuming Trump takes Arizona and Nevada, that makes things 241D v 268R, with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania deciding it.

Trump would only need one of WI and PA. Harris would need them both, but with fraud it's a toss-up.

They'll need to make sure not to let Trump steal one. Even a single EV, like the one in Nebraska would bring him to 269 and ensure a win via state delegate voting. There's also VA, NH, ME, or NM. Any of those gives him an outright win.

Don't send the gang bangers to sit in jail all day to buff up and take graduate courses in criminality. Get them out there scraping rust off of bridges and painting them. Get them cleaning up road sides. Get them filling potholes. Work their a$$e$ off, in public, so that other potential gang bangers see them and say "I don't want to be doing THAT!"

For the non-criminals - bring back the CCC and the WPA. CCC members learned carpentry, masonry, electrical work, roofing, auto mechanic skills, etc., etc. They were put in camps that they built themselves. They were fed and housed there and there were other amenities. Most of their pay went to their families. When they were done they had marketable skills and we had marvelous public facilities that they had built.
