25 Ace, I had a look at that Salem's Lot trailer. It looks to capture a lot more of the flavor of the novel than that TV movie in the '80s for sure. Cons: the lead actor is not very photogenic; and they have gone all in for that dim blue-gray-green lighting in nighttime scenes that makes it hard to see what is going on, and makes me think they are concealing poor special effects work.

That's usually not a late-stage decision but an earlier one.

It is a cost saving measure. Monochromatic special effects are easier to sell visually than colorful ones.

There's no public information on the budget, but I'd guess it's fairly low.

The cash is to pay for emergencies. A Cat 5 coming to your area is an emergency and "bugging out" is the normal emergency prep play for those.

84 People mentioned The Chosen in the previous thread. I hate Christians are trying to cancel the show because of a random set pic.

So what, there was a pride flag in the background of one set pic. It wasn't an actual pride message, it was just a pic. How many set pics have there been over the years? How many people, Jewish of Christian or atheist, gay or straight, black or white, work on the show?

It feels completely un-Christian to me, to have "our" side try and cancel a show that has brought the scriptures to life for so many.

I love that show. It has deepened my understanding of the savior and his love for me. Like the episode where Mary Magdalene is hosting shabbat for the first time after she's repented and returned to God. Christ would rather be in her home, with her clumsy yet heartfelt Shabbat, than the fancy one with the Pharisees and Rabbis whose hearts are far from him. That ep touched me deeply, how much Jesus loves us, and our feeble tries, to come to God every day and start anew.

I hope this stupid boycott fizzes out and the people making the show can just concentrate on making good TV again.

I’m convinced that if Nick Saban were still coaching the Tide they do not have that let down. Mr rat poison would never allow that kind of complacency. However, I’m not sure Saban wins the Georgia game…. The new coach is giving their QB more freedom and that unlocked a lot of offensive firepower against the Bulldogs. But DeBoer blew the Vandy game by letting complacency take root fast…. He’ll adjust; smart guy and they still have #1 talent

99 Ace, I had a look at that Salem's Lot trailer. It looks to capture a lot more of the flavor of the novel than that TV movie in the '80s for sure...

---

Whoa, no! Don't do it. I watched it last night and the 5.8 IMDB rating is way too kind. I don't think they even read the book. The whole thing has an air of "I can do this better" and it's a terrible failure.

What Tobe Hooper did with the book as a TV movie is pretty incredible. This doesn't hold a candle to that version, or even the Rob Lowe version. I'd argue it may be worse than A Return to Salem's Lot.

110 WRT The Kamala/Biden/Walz skits on SNL, I do find it fascinating that in order to do it, they had to bring back heavy hitters like Maya Rudolph, Dana Carvey, Adam Samberg and bring on Jim Gaffigan to play Walz because they don't have anyone on the current cast that's worth a warm bucket of piss.

And of note, they did use one of the current cast members to play JD Vance, and he was absolutely horrible.

That wouldn't surprise me at all - it wouldn't take a lot of money to move the market by a few points.

187 >>> Interesting how the interview Harris did on the Call her Daddy show has backfired not only for Harris but also for the host. The fans of the show found Harris disgusting, unlikeable and phony. Seems a bit like the Taylor Swift endorsement. Followers saying they are done.

Broad City was a funny show, then they had Hillary! on in the spring of 2016 as a guest cameo, and were fawning over her. It made the show jump the shark, for me but probably for others.

A comment from IMDB about the ep: "This show has been so good up to this point. The comedy is genius. But... Hillary Clinton doesn't represent the ideals of these characters. It bleeds ignorance and took the show, as a whole, a huge step back."

The novel gave me the creeps too, and I was a grownup (well, mostly) when I read it in '76. What was different about it from earlier vampire tales is that the vampires in it are not strangers to their victims. They are not Eastern Euro counts with cloaks and thick accents; no. They are your friends and neighbors. On Tuesday you go to your best friend's funeral after he dies of a weird wasting disease of the blood. Then, on Wednesday night, he's there at your second-floor window, scratching and whispering, "Let me in . . ."

King lets us know these people, hate some and like others. And then when they turn into vampires, it affects us.

More like a replay of a century old flood. Images in Asheville looked about the same from that one. Caused again by a hurricane remnant that hit an already rained out soil.

Those FEMA floodmaps are merely guesses at the likelihood of flooding based on scanty data.

Old ways are best--high places to avoid the flood but you get the wind and less than fertile soil, low places, more flooding, richer soil, less wind.

Water will always run downhill. Exposed places get more wind. Buy your ticket and put down your bets. There are no certainties in life except death and taxes (and possibly government incompetence depending on location).

Anyway, I did some shooting up there (.40 cal pistol) and I liked it. Sister purchased a Colt AR-15 and she had fun at the range with it.

Well, they're 'proven' technology. .357 magnum is as close to a 'sure thing' for man stopping as there is, if you can put the round near/on something vital.

But get something you'll enjoy shooting. Practice and ammo stockpiles are probably more important than anything else.

But here's the deal: if you're running a podcast that isn't explicitly focused on politics, then Trump or RFK is a get, but any mainstream politician is a bad move, business wise.

People still vote for these people - but they are universally despised. Nobody likes any of them, or wants to hear their evil lies, or see their phony, smarmy faces any more than they already have to, which is constantly.

Inviting these subhuman pieces of shit on your show has no upside. All that will happen is that your own reputation will be tainted by proximity to their stink.

"this process of constant stress, constant attack, constant bombardment with fear and trauma does work to brainwash people. you’re in a constant state of activation, cortisol overload, and being overwhelmed by the atavistic fear responses of the more primitive parts of your mind, responses that shut down rationality.

you get tossed from fear to anger to threat and back again over and over so rapidly that there is no rest, no time to think, no time to process or reflect. every time you pause, there’s somehting new. 2 things at once. 3 things at once. you get locked into an endless chain of “now” as stimulus response as you devolve into an anoetic consciousness dominated by anxiety, anger, and fear.

it breaks people quite completely to the point where their rational faculty is actually gone, fully inaccessible to them and they wind up driving around in a car by themselves wearing a mask and screaming at parking meters about the structural inequity of marginalized viruses until their pronouns wind up being “was/were.”

Good luck. Two bits of advice--heavier is better and a three inch barrel or longer is much more shootable revolver.

Also avoid the pretty wood grips aka splinter gripgs or replace them with rubber Hogue, Pachmyr, etc. grips before shooting it.

Buy a box or two of full wadcutter ammo if they have it to start practice with.

This is a decent self defense load to start with too.

Kamala's Handlers scheduled this to pad her interview count. Nothing more. Then her press staff and the Lapdog Media can tell us, "You're wrong about the candidate dodging media questions! She's done over XX interviews since being nominated, YY in the last week alone!"

They leave out the key part - most of her interviews are with sycophantic 'media' people. She's done some local TV news interviews with non-sycophants and has not looked good. Her Handlers want the local TV news time, and count on the local and big-time MSM outlets to not air the bad parts.

Certain 40's can be downgraded to 9mm with a mag and barrel change. Most do not require much if any tweaking of the extractor or ejector to function. Go whole hog, some like the S&W M&P 1.0, you can find replacement slides (including long ones or ones modded for red dot mounts) with barrels--either used or new.

Given that those former M&P's are selling about $250-300, add a slide/barrel combo and for about 5 bills have a dual swap firearm for 9mm and 40 S&W. The older Sigs are also that way too.

As a rule, you can go from 40 to 9mm but not vice versa.

The only problem with Manhunter is the central character isn't all that interesting, and the script just doesn't sell his psychological scarring. Also, William Petersen ain't a great actor. Otherwise, it's great. I liked it more than Red Dragon.

Tom Noonan was a terrifying Dolarhyde, better than Ralph Fiennes. Part of that is physical. He was 6-5 and muscular, and really came across as f'd up. Ralph is a great actor and thus was probably too well-known for that role.

The biggest issue there are probably 100 times more people in the area, now have electrical power and city water.

The main Asheville reservoir pipelines are destroyed. Those lines were destroyed despite being redesigned to withstand hurricane forces in 2004 after a flooding event then. They were buried under 25 feet of dirt but the flooded river ate into the ground and ripped the pipelines apart like tissue paper.

427 Jumping forward to 2023, Hezbollah began searching for pagers and landed on the Taiwanese Apollo pagers. The sales pitch came from a marketing official “trusted by Hezbollah and with links to Apollo.” The marketing official was a former Middle East sales representative for the Taiwanese company, which had a completely legitimate company with a license to sell Apollo pagers, amongst other products. Hezbollah ended up settling on the AR924 pager model.

Little did Hezbollah know, but the production of these pagers was outsourced without the sales representative’s knowledge, and the pagers were physically assembled in Irsael at a Mossad facility. The Mossad pagers featured a battery pack with a miniscule amount of a tiny yet powerful explosive. The explosive was so well hidden that even if the device were taken apart or x-rayed (which most likely Hezbollah did), it would remain undetectable.

I have both and have carried both.

That being said, for beginners, a revolver is easier to do administrative actions with very little training--loading, reloading, cleaning, and no safety/wrist locking/etc to remember.

For a person with less training, a revolver is fine and after being trained, a person can always keep the revolver on hand for another family member that may not be a gun person willing to put in the time to learn foibles of a semi auto.

And, if a house gun, doing a NY reload (having a second loaded revolver) is faster than most people in dropping a mag and inserting another from slidelock. Jim Cirrillo (via Mas Ayoob) created that term to describe what he and others did on the Stakeout Squad for NYPD. Carry two loaded guns.

Just no. Both 9mm and 40 S&W are high pressure rimless cartridges that do not like crimping. What you get is something only seen in really big bore revolvers where the recoil causes the other bullets in the cylinder to be extracted (as if you are using an inertial bullet puller). Revolver bullets are normally roll crimped to prevent bullet pull--rimless are generally taper crimped which has a less substantial 'hold' aka bullet tension on the bullet.

40 S&W is particularly tetchy regarding bullet tension anyway when reloading.

Also, Charter designed their 9mm and 40 S&W revolver using small spring latches on the cartridge grooves to hold them. Another not so useful kludge to go wrong in the field rather than moon clips.
