This Cleopatra here does resemble the young Cher quite a bit at that!

The historical Cleopatra, the 7th (there had been earlier Egyptian royals by that name) only lived to be about 40 -- born in 70 BC (?) and dying in 30. She was no teenager when she got involved with Julius Caesar, being something like 26 at the time. With Antony, she had her affair with him starting at age 31.

She had one child by Caesar, Caesarion, and three with Antony. Octavian, after he defeated Antony and Cleopatra at Actium, killed Caesar's son, but took the other three with him to Rome, to be raised by his elder sister. Made sense; Caesarion was of the family line and might grow up to compete with Octavian or his children, but the other three were not.

119 Cabanel can certainly create an effective scene. The detail and texture in the stone work (with a sense of the eternal) and the strong sunlight versus the soft bodies of the people (with a sense of the ephemeral) is powerful. The languid, unconcerned pose of Cleopatra as she calmly has the prisoners killed speaks of power but the viewer knows what is ahead.

The painting brings to mind Shelly's poem "Ozymandias".

185 Shaw's Cleopatra in the play is drawn as rather young and kittenish, but she was 26 at the time she met him. And people, esp. royals, grew up fast in those days or they didn't live to grow up at all.

Caesar was born about 100 BC, so his affair with her would have been when he was almost 30 years her senior.

Wife gets a call from the company that the alarm that tripped was a panic alarm and authorities would be over.

I immediately picture having to show ID and them not believing me.

What I didn't picture was two 5'5", 110 lb. female sheriff deputies knocking on my door.

Would've been a great start to a bachelor party, a horrible start if there actually was an emergency.

Chris Wray will testify before @JudiciaryGOP at 10.

This question must be asked if for nothing more but to get his reaction not counting on a response due to “ongoing investigation” blah blah.

Were any FBI assets—agents, investigators, undercover employees, or confidential human sources (informants) in communication with Thomas Crooks before and/or on July 13?

Julie Kelly @julie_kelly2 1h
In my dreams I’d love for a member to also ask:

Five of the 10 men who went on trial for allegedly attempting to kidnap Gretchen Whitmer were found not guilty amid evidence of extensive FBI involvement. A federal appellate court appears prepared to order a new trial for two other men now sitting in super max prisons because the judge refused to allow the jury to see a trove of communications between FBI agents and informants.

Have any of the dozen informants, three undercover agents, or numerous FBI handling agents been fired for framing individuals to make it look like they tried to kidnap and kill the governor?

(I mean I have about 20 more Qs on this topic but that’s a start)

Éric-Emmanuel Schmitt wrote a book, La Part de l’autre, in which he imagines that Hitler passes his art diploma. From that instant, his destiny and the world’s are completely altered: he has a string of affairs, becomes a promiscuous playboy, marries a Jewish woman with whom he has two or three children, joins the Surrealists in Paris, and ends up a famous painter. At the same time, Germany fights a small war with Poland and that’s all. No Second World War, no genocide, and a Hitler who is nothing like the real one.
