It was a sight to behold -- three small women attempting to shield Trump from bullets.

All of them were a head and a half smaller than Trump. Bullets would have flown over their heads to hit Trump in his.

And the head of the Secret Service? Rather than being a 60 year old man who had served all of his life in the military, law enforcement, or physical security industry, we have a young-ish woman and lifelong paper-pusher who used to work for PepsiCo.

As (IIRC) Ann Coulter snarked: Her main experience was in providing physical security to Fritos.

DEI is Death. We're going to start seeing the bodies pile up in operating theaters, as planes crash into unexpected mountains, and Secret Service Suffragettes fail to protect their clients from bullets.

Kimberly Cheatle, head of the Secret Service, got the publicity she wanted for hiring a bunch of women. Now she's got a bunch of questions to answer.
How did this happen?
How did a guy with a rifle access a rooftop that close to his target?
Why didn't agents listen to the attendees who spotted him first?
Why was one female agent heard screaming, "What are we doing? Where are we going?"
Why haven't you cleaned out your desk yet?
That last question is the most important one. I sure wouldn't want to trade places with Cheatle right now. Republicans hate her for letting this happen to Trump, and Democrats hate her for handing him the election.
The Secret Service has no plans to beef up security at the RNC in Milwaukee, saying: "We are confident in the plans we have."
They shouldn't be confident in anything right now. They're not filming a promotional video with women in Kevlar vests walking in slow motion while contemporary R&B plays. They're supposed to be protecting a presidential candidate, and they just failed utterly.

The Secret Service is hiring almost nothing but women, as they attempt to hit 30% female agent "representation" by 2030.

I don't think the issue is women per se, it's that you don't put 5 foot nothing females on a detail to body a 6'4" man, same goes for guys.

I'm 5'9", putting a guy my height to protect Trump would be silly.

In fact, it looked like only one of the guys on the detail was taller than Trump.

I think a local agency delegated some tasks and (at best) totally fucked them up or (at worst) were in on it to some degree. That's because it's hard for USSS to delegate the failed tasks out yet also somehow make the locals fail at them without it being really obvious later.

This does not absolve the USSS agent in charge on site from failing to verify what was or was not done, but it's a real stretch to blame random members of the detail in general for it. You likely have one USSS fuckup on-site, and number of USSS organizational fuckups higher up leading to this, and some level of fuckup or malice on the part of a local agency.

I suppose it's possible someone in USSS on site was in on it but I wouldn't expect that to be the case.

When I was about 19, I worked in a mini-mart and we had this guy who used to shoplift bottles of Thunderbird all the time. One night, I caught sight of him running out the door with a bottle. Called the local cops and the one female patrol cop on the force responded. About 5'3" or so, maxed out at about 120#, blonde and hawt.

The shoplifter came back just as she pulled into the lot. He took off with her in foot pursuit and she tackled him in the alley across the street. Pretty badass when she put his face into the blacktop.

But she was the exception. Still wouldn't want her pulling protection duty, since she was so tiny. Plenty of women have the heart for police work, but biology is almost always working against them.

At the level of the USSS details they're supposed to have had all of it already happen in training, but we already know they're literally not sending their best for someone who isn't even a nominee yet.

Don't make the mistake of attacking the detail too publicly if there is no political utility in it and they're not reasonably at primary fault. Attack the agency leadership and the factors that led to it sucking, and attack the individuals who specifically failed with the perimeter issue. And find out if it was accidental or not.

Gonna be blunt, this sounds like someone who has never had to deal with LE stuff.

Decades ago they would have been glossing over vulnerabilities and letting things slide rather than taking them seriously specifically because it was just a bunch of dudes; the initial inclusion of female agents, before modern DEI bullshit, would have been a reasonably useful improvement in overall security. I wouldn't work for an agency or private company that didn't have the foresight to keep at least one woman around per shift, that's been amateur hour shit since before I was even an adult.

Not really, just reacting to idle gossip to the news that TJM reported of references to 'she'. Stefanik has been a name floated for awhile now but was never on the shortlist. Dunno if Trump recalculated the VP decision or not after July 13th.

Neither Tulsi nor other women, to my knowledge have been floated as potential vps by the Trump campaign. Sanders said flatly she did not want it and with two young kids, I can see being governor of AR is far better than submitting them to DC viciousness.

Absent getting inside help, the shooter couldn't have known the detail was short staffed, temps, not covering the roof, not patrolling the outer perimeter, etc. It's not much of a plan to just short staff Trump's detail and hope a shooter shows up.

My feeling is that they were willing to deal with the fallout of the obvious security lapses so long as the job got done. Even better, the likely reaction from the right would have provided the cover for an even bigger crackdown than J6.

I don't see any way you cut it here without the USSS agent in charge fucking up at a minimum on failing to ensure the proper delegation of securing that building, and if it was delegated, some whole higher level of stupidity in those people failed to do it. Any further blame depends on the details.

This stuff is the kind of reason why captains get court martialed when some boob runs their ship aground while they're sleeping. As an organization you have to take the proper steps to prevent it, and when you don't you get made into an example.

Head of the regional office came up to me and said.."It happens a LOT around here, but only with the new Glocks, we have multiple agents out right now having shot themselves". Perhaps the life moment I am most ridiculously proud of is shooting a "Possible" on the Hogans Alley in San Diego, RNC 1996, with the SS detail(No way I could do it today)
