I'm not sure on the percentages that I monitor on the lefty boards. Roughly half seem to be cool with killing anybody they don't like. Or roughly half seem to be willing to admit it. Plenty of people willing to publicly wish the would-be assassin had better aim.
I noticed a post on X where someone confronted a Home Depot checkout clerk, a butterball blob, on her public pronouncements wishing that Mr. Trump was killed at the rally. She looked a bit uncomfortable, murmuring "I'm at work", and then getting on the phone to call her supervisor. Ha!

I respectfully disagree. The 2028 VP pick is more important than usual, as we're looking at a post-Trump environment then, and MAGA needs to be more than just DJT. That VP would be expected to carry the mantle, and we can't leave that to a GOPer to handle. For example, if Pence didn't shiv Trump in 2021, he would have been the presumptive pick in 2024. VPs of successful presidents generally get the nod the next time. Biden was an exception, not a rule.

Are we going to be subjected to coverage of this event for the rest of our lives? They have yet to mention a thing about all the guns on the street and how no one is safe. Everything is so "kumbaya" it's making me ill. Now Dear Leader is giving a "unity" speech at the convention. His version probably means unifying all the Democrats in a pen and shooting them.

Many of you know my friend, Salena Zito. She's an excellent reporter who writes with great affection about rural America. On Saturday, she was four feet from Donald Trump when the shooting started. That's her on the ground, beneath a campaign staffer determined to protect her. I'm proud of her, and glad she's okay.
I have some other thoughts, too, but think I'll wait a bit to share them publicly. In general, I think it's fair to say that Donald Trump was not the only one who dodged a bullet yesterday. I think America did, as well. As with so many other moments in history, this one came down to a centimeter or two. Truly chilling to imagine the reaction, had that bullet found its intended target.

Also, most of the normal detail guarding Trump was given the day off, since they were exhausted from working seven-day weeks. Left unexplained is why that detail was understaffed in the first place.
The interesting question is: not only was a roof within easy rifle range of Trump left unguarded, but how did the shooter know that the rooftop would be unguarded?
People were reporting the shooter on the roof to the cops and SS for a couple of minutes prior to the shooting, and the SS let Trump stay at the podium.
This is increasingly looking deliberate - Trump was supposed to be killed.

One of the articles on the Morning thread mentioned that the FBI says it identified the shooter, who they say carried no ID, using DNA. That article was from Sunday, while the shooting was Saturday evening.
So a DNA identification was done within about 24 hours? Is that even possible?
It was the same situation with the Xmas2020 "bomber" in Nashville.
Maybe it's possible to get a sample and run a test within that time, if you have your own lab (which I presume law enforcement DOES), but to identify somebody you need to compare that DNA to the DNA of other people, right?
You would need to somehow get a DNA sample of the person you THINK the shooter was (from his home, for example), but you would need to have an idea of who he was first, to do even THAT, and it would take time.
If you only have the DNA of the shooter's relatives, you wouldn't necessarily be able to pin it down to an exact individual.
The only way I can think of how it could work, is if the shooter had done a DNA test (AncestryDNA, for example), and law enforcement was able to access the database of whatever company he did it with.
OR, maybe they're just lying to us.

I liked him in The Big Year. He stars along side Steve Martin and Owen Wilson. It's a light comedy, and nothing over-the-top. Black and Martin really dial it back compared to some of their other performances.

There were cops and SWAT (the counter assault team USSS guys were all in black IIRC, so multicam would have been local SWAT) visible in several vidsos where people are screaming about the dude on the roof.
Any one of them could have just potted the guy, having the same potential line of sight to him as any of the people filming on the ground screaming about him.
This is actually a good argument for red dots on pistols, a 9mm with a dot could have made that shot fairly easily as long as the dude wasn't shooting back at you.

VP picks are about internal party unity at the highest of levels. Pence was about pleasing the GOPe, trying to get them on board. It was a gamble that failed.
Scott would probably be fine and fit the model more accurately than Youngkin, I think, though Scott is far from a perfect candidate and didn't last long in the primary for a reason.

A number of cops with rifles are visible in the numerous vidos from ground-level pre shooting.
The guy who got boosted up and ran into the shooter could in theory have helped a lot by just popping off some random rounds but it sounds like the time between spotting him and the shooting starting was like 10-ish seconds anyways.
The big local failure here other than perimeter/roof and any potential inside threat stuff is that all of these dudes can be seen milling around at ground level while people scream about the shooter, and most of them did NOTHING.

Had Gore's VP been say Sen Bob Graham from Florida, he would have won the Presidency.
It's just relatively rare a single state decides the Presidency. Usually all the swing states go in a certain direction.
Also, I think people dont care as much about the "home town" guy being a VP. But in a state that comes down to 1%, it can matter.

It's a big component of quite a large number of social media trends, apps, etc, used as vehicles to gather specific data. Biometrics, mapping out wifi and devices in your home, stealing image metadata, and so on.

The one vantage point was the place he went to and it just so happened to not be guarded at all. All the reports say this point not being guarded is way outside procedure, especially with it being the only place for a rifle shot to get a chance.
