Depicting an industrial mill complex in a flat, angular style, Spencer’s Waterfront Mill, like Charles Sheeler’s Water, notably lacks signs of human presence and activity. The mill is pristinely painted with clean edges and smooth brushwork; there is no evidence of age or wear-and-tear. Thus, Spencer’s composition, based on a historical mill in Bristol, Rhode Island, appears as an emblem of timeless efficiency. Interest in such examples of vernacular architecture spiked among artists after the end of World War I and through World War II, partly because their no-nonsense design seemed to exemplify the phrase "form follows function," coined by architect Louis Sullivan. The work *looks* industrial. Straight, clean, smooth lines. Geometric shapes. A limited and somewhat drab color palette of brick red and steel blue-grey. It's cold, impersonal, and flat. No humanity. No nature. Just industry. I think this work successfully reflects its subject. I like it.

On the other hand, it is a study in geometry. The only curves are the tops of the black cylinders at the center, and the sweep of the railing just to their right. Otherwise it's all straight lines and acute or 90-degree angles. Euclid would have approved and had a wonderful afternoon and evening calculating all the angles in the painting.

For his media, Niles was down to a few stretched bolts of barely primed sackcloth and the Behr interior eggshell Dolphin Fin and Ceramic Beige he'd picked for the front room and kitchen three years before, and which his wife had rejected. "I guess this is my new period," he said, taking up a brush with all the enthusiasm of a wrench-twister starting his day on the line.

What has happened is the worst-case scenario. I was 16 years old in 1968, so I remember an election decided by an assassination. Nothing in American history is worse than that for our Democracy. Making a martyr out of Donald Trump or "Trumpism" will make the agenda surrounding him even more likely. These are terrible times. Expect them to get much worse. Not equivalent in any way. This comparison is so ludicrous, I’m shocked to read it. Humphrey was able to do wonderful things as president after the public rallied behind him. Jesus Christ this place some times. The similarities are an attempt to alter a Democratic outcome through violence. The attempt on Trump's life now gives a rationalization to all of the "Trump Cult" to implement their extreme agenda. This attempt on Trump's life will make our job of defeating him in the 2024 election that much more difficult. The last assassin attack before this was also against a republican congressman in 2018 during baseball practice. By a democrat support. We can’t delude ourselves that violence it’s only from the right. Extremism is everybody’s enemy. This painting immediately had me recalling some of Margaret Bourke-White's urban and industrial photography. https://tinyurl.com/3r55ms4d These type of images, for me, are reductive from the perspective that everything is stripped away but the essential shapes and once there we are in seeing the world as abstraction. This kind of imagery, in particular Edward Hopper's work, are some of my favorite works. I think this stems from discovering this way of seeing while running around with a camera and pretending I actually know what I am doing. Would hang. HOLT-BIDEN INTERVIEW: The Temperature Has Not Been Lowered, Biden Repeats Fine People Hoax |NewsBusters NBC’s Lester Holt sat down with President Joe Biden for a much-hyped interview that would kick off Biden’s counterprogramming of the Republican National Convention, which kicked off tonight. Despite President Biden’s calls to lower the temperature in the wake of the failed attempt to assassinate former President Donald Trump, his rhetoric remains pretty much the same and met little pushback from Holt. The interview begins with a question about the assassination attempt. Biden immediately cited the thoroughly debunked “Fine People Hoax” as part of the divisive rhetoric, with zero pushback from Holt. After stumbling his way around the “bullseye” answer (“I didn’t say crosshairs”, Biden insists on calling Trump a “threat to democracy”, and repeats the debunked “Bloodbath Hoax”. There was some modest pushback this time. Scott Adams @ScottAdamsSays 46m No one told Biden the Fine People Hoax is the most debunked hoax in American history? This is pathetic. What he should have done is his job: confronting the man with the gun. Posted by: CharlieBrown'sDildo You climb a roof not expecting to see anything, startle some dude who turns and points a rifle at you? You drop/slide/jump off the ladder. No way you're going to try and fumble around for your pistol, or have the full thought process of "let him shoot at me to alert everyone". Someone points a gun at you and you're unarmed...most people instinctively freeze, or do some amazing parkor to get away. Then, probably call it in on your radio...you know snipers are everywhere. (See) Libs of Tik Tok on X Democrats need to "turn their fire on Donald Trump" - CNN contributor Kate Bedingfield before quickly backtracking. Just imagine the outrage if it was a Fox host saying that about a Democrat days after an attempted ass*ss*nat*on on them. From Trump War Room, July 16, 7 hours ago -- “It’s a shame the person [sh**ter] missed” *Next breath* “I’m scared of political violence” These people are legit insane From Timcast news, July 16, 7 hours ago --- This dude wishing d*ath on me has “let’s change the world for the better” in his bio 🤡 July 16, 8 hours ago Cc @FBI --- Locally, a former local Fire XXXXXXXXX resigned after he reportedly wrote "A little to the right next time" after the shooting. * (*There have been A-holes on either side of fences locally - forever - so these things tend to wane quickly.) But, as J.J. wrote at the end of The Morning Report, there are some breaks too, so, "Considering that far too many of his fellow travelers are still baying for Trump's and our blood, I will take this as a positive sign. Now, let's build on it if we can, however we can?" Posted by: L - If they'll do it with you, they'll do it to you, too at July 16, 2024 11:03 AM (NFX2v) 470
