I grew up with border collies. They're all smart, but we had one in particular who was terrifying about it.

He'd open the fridge, take out a tupperware with chicken (or whatever) in it, shut the fridge, eat the contents, and then hide the tupperware and the lid. Like. Hide it. We were still finding containers in the house years after he had died.

43 Hey all, just an fyi since there seems to be a lot of quoting and reliance on the "syllabus" part of Supreme Court opinions: the syllabus is not written by the Court, is not part of the opinion or decision, and is not even written by the Court or any of their clerks.

It's written by the reporter who publishes the decisions. In some instances, the syllabus is inaccurate or even misleading. Plus, if you quote or rely on the syllabus, it suggests you don't really know what you're doing.

Lawyers reading opinions don't read any part of the syllabus. We go right to the opinion itself.

In multiparty systems, getting 40% of the popular vote usually ends with a majority government.

And voter turnout dropped alot:

It's absolutely bonkers how much more marginal Britain has become.

With most results in, the average seat majority looks to be about 6,700, down from 11,200 in 2019.

I don't know enough about UK politics or how the government is formed to really have an opinion, but I tend to agree.

I'm always very skeptical of strategies that we have to destroy the dominant "conservative" party before we rebuild it. That tends to put the really bad party in power for extended periods -- if not forever -- and the damage they can do is often irreversible. The "conservative" party may indeed be dogshit. But it's better than the true leftist commies.

I get the intellectual theory behind that strategy. I get the rage behind it. I just think that reality intervenes and fucks that strategy in the ass.

Kamala's brush with the DNC pipe bomb, which should be the Dems' biggest J6 talking point, is their most carefully guarded secret.

Why? What did Kamala and her secret service detail know and when did they know it?

REMEMBER: Kamala Harris was in the DNC building when the so-called Jan 6 pipe bomb was discovered and removed.

The bombshell video below shows that her own secret service detail clearly knew the bombs were fake in advance (how did they know this?)

Despite the fact that dems have bent over backward to paint Jan 6 as a domestic terror event, and have lied to support this theory, Kamala has not milked her brush with the J6 pipe bomb for political points

In fact, she has studiously covered up her presence in the DNC building.

What should be their biggest J6 talking point is their most carefully guarded secret.

Why?

There are things which I appreciate about that church as well. I am impatient about "One true Church" stuff but I think that you were sort of kidding to get a response. . Do people believe in their hearts and confess with their mouth that Jesus is Lord and God raised him from the dead?. Do they desire by the power of the indwelling Holy Spirit to be transformed as much as possible in this life into the image of Christ? Do they learn from and cherish Holy Scripture and consider it the word of God?. Do they pray and worship Father, Son and Holy Spirit? Then they are a Christian and I will happily offer them my hand. The US style governance worked, because it at least paid lip service to private property and rule of law, presumption of innocence, and the ability to make a living through one's own diligence and native intelligence. I've begun to wonder if the way to get around personal debates on candidates is to just frame it this way:

"I do not like the man. I like his policies. I also do not like your man, but I dislike his policies."

Just flat out refuse to talk about the men themselves because all anti-Trump talk is about him as a man.

Well, I've wondered this in regards to conversations with Dolley. She is not a fan of Trump the man. We don't talk politics much, but if I reframed it that way...It probably wouldn't work, but the next time it comes up, I may try it.

Lawn jockeys were never meant to represent race track jocks!

They were intended to represent a uniformed antebellum servant, holding a lantern for an arriving guest exiting a carriage. So that the guest didn't trip in the dark.

I categorically reject your effort to present actual facts into the discussion.

I voted for Romney too, although not "happily." I did it because of my antipathy to Obama. Btw, voting for Romney was easier for me than voting for McCain, which I also did, and for the same reason.

I did too. I was pretty okay with it at the time.

I'm closer to a cultural Republican than I want to admit, but I'm willing to shake it more often than most, I think.

I think his fans are more the single white women. He's the ultimate "I can change him".

329 I lit off some 6-inch mortar shells last night. I mistakenly put one shell in the tube upside down. Really dumb, I know. The shell exploded in the tube and made a really scary explosion right in front of us. Luckily nobody was hurt.

Always, ALWAYS double-check that before you launch. My instructor in commercial pyrotechnics demonstrated what happens when you insert a 3-inch salute shell upside down in a mortar tube. It went off like a stick of dynamite and obliterated the adjacent tubes in the rack. They were made of HDPE, so they just deformed instead of turned into shrapnel. The wooden rack was not so fortunate.

331 There are things which I appreciate about that church as well. I am impatient about "One true Church" stuff but I think that you were sort of kidding to get a response. We may disagree on things, but as Benjamin Franklin said in another context, "We must hang together or most assuredly we will all hang separately Posted by: FenelonSpoke

I'm not kidding. You have obviously never spent time around a truly ancient Pagan culture where your physical life depended on the good will of them. I insist Isus, Hristos, delivered us from a transactional Pagan cosmology. This is NOT a minor business.
If any so-called Christian outfit refuses to personify God, that is the deal-breaker. God is the Father (if one is Christian) The King (if one is Jewish).
A vague belief in some Energy Being is not enough. That is Pagan and causes a logic cascade.

Sure, why not. What about this...A cultural democrat goes on about how, after years of attacking and insulting her republican sister, she woke up when day and said, gee, you need to meet me in the middle so we can dial down acrimony. Yeah, I stroked once again and ended up with another headache and forehead bruise.

333 Nurse Ratched-I have opinions about the RCC which make me no different than a number of people here. There are many things which I appreciate about RCC-maybe because I used to be RC and I have read quite a bit about it. That does not make me an expert which I have never claimed to be.I have not told anybody about what their RC faith means to them.In fact, I have been pretty clear that I find vitriolic arguments- between RC's and other Christians objectionable and I have certainly not made any comments about what your faith means to you because the main" interacation" I have had from you is your swooping down from the ozone (even at 3:00 PNW time when I have said nothing rude to you or about your insulting me.

Posted by: FenelonSpoke at July 05, 2024 01:10 PM (oUxZc)

I missed the back-and-forth on this, but you and I share many, many, many aspects of faith and you are always respectful and thoughtful about my (relatively new) catholic faith. I truly appreciate the daily devotionals and prayers you sometimes link.

339 Like cigarettes, pharmaceuticals should be banned from advertising on TV. They are pushing drugs with serious and sometimes deadly consequences. The US and New Zealand are the only countries that allow their adverts on TV.
It is perverse to watch these people sing and dance while pushing drugs.

There was a time when Pharmaceuticals, up until 1983, WERE banned from any advertising in the media. Same with attorneys. I'm old enough to remember that.

341 Wonder if you could teach a Border Collie to drive a car?
Yes you could, but not a stick. OTOH they will ask for the keys every Saturday night as well as $20 to treat their dog lady friends. They may also make a mess in the back seat. Also, the insurance rider may be problematic. But, other than that . . .

342 Man, I expected to see actual Bull Terriers here! I grew up with a dog just like the Spuds one, except eye spot was on the other eye. Dog was all muscle and as nice as can be. She liked to play football, had the moves of a Barry Sanders when trying to catch her, but not sure she had the grace for a skateboard.
