Abraham Lincoln's Prayer For The Nation

Almighty God, Who has given us this good land for our heritage; We humbly beseech Thee that we may always prove ourselves a people mindful of Thy favor and glad to do Thy will. Bless our land with honorable ministry, sound learning, and pure manners. Save us from violence, discord, and confusion, from pride and arrogance, and from every evil way. Defend our liberties, and fashion into one united people, the multitude brought hither out of many kindreds and tongues. Endow with Thy spirit of wisdom those whom in Thy name we entrust the authority of government, that there may be justice and peace at home, and that through obedience to Thy law, we may show forth Thy praise among the nations of the earth. In time of prosperity fill our hearts with thankfulness, and in the day of trouble, suffer not our trust in Thee to fail; all of which we ask through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Sore loser laws? It's a left coast issue I guess.

July 2 (UPI) -- A primary election in Oregon was resolved with a coin flip under state law -- but the winner of the flip was ineligible to run.

The 8th House District in Eugene, which skews heavily Democratic, had no Republicans on the primary ballot last week, so the race came down to write-in votes.

'Anything but neighborly': Without permit, church charges ahead with religious festival

MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. —
As the music emanating from Coraopolis Heights Road gets louder, so does the uproar.

"What has happened with this group is anything but neighborly," said Kevin Rooney, one of dozens of Moon Township residents who attended a township supervisors' meeting Monday.

Rooney and others took turns during the meeting's public comment period to complain about the loud noise at 1442 Coraopolis Heights Road, where a church is holding a weeklong religious festival.

Whatever happened to love thy neighbor as you love yourself?

Life Lessons

There are three things that cannot be easily hidden: The Sun, the Moon, and the Truth.

The following are 2 Simple Truths, 6 Rules of Life, and 3 Bonus Rules:

*SIMPLE TRUTH 1:*Lovers help each other undress before sex. After sex, they always dress on their own.

Moral of the story -- In life, no one helps you once you're screwed.

*SIMPLE TRUTH 2:*When a woman is pregnant, all her friends touch her stomach and say, "Congratulations." But none go up to the man, touch his penis and say, "Good Job."

Moral of the story -- Hard work is rarely appreciated.

*SIX RULES TO REMEMBER IN LIFE:*

1. Money can't buy happiness - but it's far more comfortable to cry in a Porsche than on a bicycle.

2. Forgive your enemy - but* remember the asshole's name*.

3. If you help someone when they're in trouble - they will remember you when they're in trouble again.

4. Alcohol does not solve any problems - but then, neither does milk.

*5*. Many people are alive only because it's illegal to shoot them.

6. No matter how rich you are, no matter how generous you are, no matter how good you look. The number of people who attend your funeral will depend on the weather, *unless there's an open bar.*

*BONUS RULES:*

1. Condoms do not guarantee safe sex! A friend of mine was wearing one when he was shot by the woman's husband.

2. I think all politicians should wear uniforms. You know, like NASCAR drivers, so we could identify their corporate sponsors.

3. Also, all politicians should serve only two terms -- one in office and one in prison.

*This was a public service announcement**.*

Bear tranquilized, captured after unusual sighting in Chatsworth

CHATSWORTH, LOS ANGELES (KABC) -- A bear that was spotted roaming the Los Angeles neighborhood of Chatsworth was tranquilized and captured after it spent the night in an area that doesn't often experience such sightings.

The collared and tagged bear was first seen Monday night in an industrial area near De Soto Avenue and Lassen Street. Los Angeles police officers responded to the area and watched the bear as it meandered between industrial buildings and parking lots, but they eventually left the animal to keep wandering.

By Tuesday morning, the bear was seen nestled high up in a tree on nearby Independence Avenue.

THORNTON, Ill. - There’s a new roof going up on a house in south suburban Thornton.

Normally, that’s not big news. But under this new roof, a remarkable story played out involving a military veteran with an ill granddaughter who got a helping hand from a local contractor.

59 There's more to the loud noise at the church story. If you look up the address (1442 Coraopolis Heights Road - not far from Pittsburgh Airport), you'll see an 11 bedroom house with 16 bathrooms on 32 acres that was sold in May 2024 for $4.475m. No idea where the $$$ comes from, but looks like the new owner is the "Revival Today Church." They're a full gospel church doing tent meetings twice a day this week but this isn't a temporary situation.

81 Team Trump’s statement:
"Every Democrat who is calling on Crooked Joe Biden to quit was once a supporter of Biden and his failed policies that lead to extreme inflation, an open border, and chaos at home and abroad. Make no mistake that Democrats, the main stream media, and the swamp colluded to hide the truth from the American public - Joe Biden is weak, failed, dishonest, and not fit for the White House. It ought to be commemorated as the day of deliverance, by solemn acts of devotion to God Almighty. It ought to be solemnized with pomp and parade, with shows, games, sports, guns, bells, bonfires, and illuminations, from one end of this continent to the other, from this time forward forever more.

And Colin mentioned that as part of the atheist movement had seen something similar come into his movement before gender/trans stuff went became our cultural focus.

He stated that Atheism had been focused on disbelief and then a group of people started advocating for "atheism plus", the plus here being basically woke politics. And soon after that all atheist events became atheist plus events.

Joe isn't a hostile interviewer and so they went on to other topics, but it would have been interesting to ask non-gender nut Colin if he feels any connection between his original atheist movement and the rise of the woke movement that would then cancel him for speaking basic biological truths.

There are some problems money can straight out solve. It isn't all problems by any means, but if you can afford to solve a broken water heater, a tooth cavity, or a cracked phone your life is going to be less bad when they happen then if you didn't.

Money also opens up more opportunities for diversion.

So money doesn't buy happiness but everything else being equal you will be more happy with money then without.

I think it is a reasonable tactic to have the FEC charge Trump with a violation for receiving an undeclared in-kind donation from the Biden campaign.

The only time I can see the wisdom of a fireworks ban was when we were in San Antonio during a two-year drought. The radio station was giving daily aquifer level updates and honestly, if a scrub brush fire broke out and swept into the city, I'm not sure the city could have put it out quickly. It didn't stop everyone from lighting them off, but the military bases were fairly strict about it.

In Iowa, sometime in the 1930s or 1940s, nobody would s really sure, perhaps a little kid set off a firework inside a Ben Franklin store or whatever. In turn the whole display went up, and the building. Then the whole block. When it was over the whole small town was leveled, and the Iowa legislature banned everything except sparklers for 80 years. Everything is legal again, for now.

Havana Syndrome
He had a Cold

I expect KJP will add more 'explanations, not excuses' in the coming days.

253 The only time I can see the wisdom of a fireworks ban was when we were in San Antonio during a two-year drought. The radio station was giving daily aquifer level updates and honestly, if a scrub brush fire broke out and swept into the city, I'm not sure the city could have put it out quickly. It didn't stop everyone from lighting them off, but the military bases were fairly strict about it.
Posted by: pookysgirl, listening for the booms at July 03, 2024 10:50 PM (dtlDP)

San Antonio has ALWAYS had a fireworks ban. And, I don't know if they still do this, but they (at least at one time) spied on people buying fireworks outside of city limits. Once you crossed back into town, you got stopped for having fireworks. (Which for me was nauseating in the extreme for countless reasons.)

What's not been proposed, is this:

Trump should offer up a cool million, for "Naming Rights" on the mission. The Launch Area and Mission Control festooned with Trump 2024 flags. A small version of the flag to fly on the mission, and be displayed aboard the ISS.

Said flag to be autographed by the Starship and ISS Crews.

I'm guessing the odds are the same for a manned undocking. Perhaps the best thing to do is jettison it and, once it's at a safe distance, let it try an unmanned re-entry. To speed it on its way, perhaps an EVA could attach some suit thruster packs.

I was off work early for our Independence Day celebrations tomorrow and I came home and this desire to raise the flag at sunset was just...enveloping me.

I pulled out a 500 watt work light, rigged the power cable and about an hour before sunset...raised the colors which at the Nightwatch castle includes the "Blood Chit" of the USMC just below and then lit it up.

And by the Dawn's Early Light...so Proudly will it wave come sunrise tomorrow.

Have a Blessed and Happy 4th of July Horde...Remember America the Beautiful.

338 Interesting addendum on "Dark Shadows" - Quentin Tarantino bought the cane that Jonathan Frid used on the original series when he played the part of Barnabus Collins as part of his collection of TV and Movie memorabilia. He trotted it out for display in an appearance on the "Tonight Show" when Leno was hosting.
The problem was that Tarantino had reached a state of intoxication not too far from alcohol poisoning, and everybody watching it could see it, not least Leno, who was pissed off to the extreme. Tarantino spent the next few minutes speaking about how cool the cane was, while Leno kept drumming his fingers on the desk, waiting for a commercial. It's available on Youtube, and worth watching.

Moon Township is in Allegheny County, near Pittsburgh International Airport. It's not exactly a small rural area anymore. So, no, 12 mosques there doesn't surprise me. Also, the noise complaints. Lots more people live there now. I read the article (didn't see any mosques attendees were interviewed), and the usual suspects of grievance junkies were complaining. On the other hand, maybe they were really loud. Hard to say.

This is utterly nonsense when you get to professionals such as engineers and architects. We earn considerably less than the private sector. We just work 8-8hour days, instead of the slave labor in the private sector that requires 9-10 hour days routinely. Paid less, but work less. Work-life balance, not something taking into consideration in the private sector. I've worked both.

They would charge the cannon with a squib and touch it off each block, one of the marchers would fall down, and they would chuck him into the wagon, where he would scream humorously, and the "surgeons" in the wagon would saw on a piece of wood, and then throw out a piece of 2x4 with a shoe nailed to it to indicate an amputation, out the back.

There's a story that Gouverneur Morris, the man who drafted most of the US Constitution in 1787, once made a bet during the Constitutional Convention.

Seeing George Washington from a distance speaking with fellow delegates, Morris, a fun-loving larger-than-life ladies' man, bet that he could come up from behind and slap Washington on the back and greet him with a hearty "Hello, George!"

Morris made his way over to Washington, but before he could do anything, Washington turned and looked at him. That one look lost the bet - Morris apologized for being intrusive and made himself scarce.

Think of any other leader in American history - were any of them so formidable that one look from them took all the wind out of everybody's sails?

Reminds me of how they depicted that landing in "The Big Red One." The French offer their surrender, but a ranking officer, using a bull-horn, says "We do not accept your surrender. If you are Vichy, fight us. If you are Frenchmen, join us!" And there follows this joyous scene, where the French rush over to do just that. Sad that particular film is mostly forgotten. Probably one of Lee Marvin's best roles.

Lee Marvin's best role(s), were the Desert Motorcycle Races in which he competed, in the '50s and '60s.

Mexico, Vegas, Mojave, he rode 'em all. And on stripped down, 300+ lbs Brit bike "Desert Sleds".

Steve McQueen rode a lot of the same races, but a few years later. Marvin was of the Brit vertical twin era. McQueen rode those, but blossomed on the Husquvarna 400 single two-stroke, which was the Giant Killer of it's day.

Short day it was. Maico with their 501, and then the Japanese Invasion.

Me, with my Hodaka Ace 100? Didn't register 0.0000000000001 on the motorcycle richter scale.

I had no idea he raced - this would have been before he teamed up with Richard Burton for the exploitation movie "The Klansman." By that time, Marvin had made drinking his whole profession, and Burton was almost continually intoxicated while they were shooting. A few years after the fact, the two were surprised to hear that they had done a movie together. The booze was strong on those two.

Lee Marvin was also a Combat Veteran Marine, having been in on the invasion(s) of the Island Hopping Campaigns in the Pacific.

McQueen was a post-war kicked out of the Marines. Because he was too incorrigible for their Corps Discipline.
