Was reading this for a little perspective from the left, finding myself amazed and bemused at the semantic gap.

The Slate piece is linked below in case you wish to analyze it, but beware that an AI assistant is offered for your guidance. Which reminds me that certain people have suggested that "deep fakes" could help even out some of Joe Biden's presentations, even though "cheap fakes" are obviously evil.

There are some interesting excuses for and harumphs about the debate and its aftermath, then this piece gets down to issues affecting Kamala:

Joe Biden was old when he ran for president. He and his team should have spent the past four years road testing surrogates and grooming potential successors. Instead, they’ve sidelined their vice president and failed to place the spotlight on any of the Democratic Party’s many bright, shining potential stars. Now the very predictable has happened: The oldest-ever American president is showing his age, voters are reasonably wondering whether he will be up to the extremely demanding tasks of governing until he’s 86—86!—and there is no obvious Plan B.
Under normal circumstances, Plan B would be the vice president, and a small handful of commentators are already voicing support for Kamala Harris at the top of the ticket. The reasons are obvious enough: She is the vice president, after all; she is by most accounts a perfectly competent if not particularly compelling leader; and skipping over her has the potential to anger and alienate core Democratic constituencies (Black voters, female voters).
But Harris is also unpopular. . .

What follows seems rather convoluted to me. Kamala's unpopularity is not her fault. It's all due to the burdens of what has been in past political history, the failures of political operatives around her, plus bigotry of various types, all working together against her.

But she really suffered from running for president in 2020. That year was in many ways a cultural blip, and one of its most significant irregularities was the brief turn against policing and prosecution. In any other election year, including probably this one, a tough-on-crime stance is a benefit to politicians, especially those with national aspirations. But 2020 was a year of mass protests against police violence. Progressive prosecutors won high-profile elections, and although no police forces were actually defunded, the slogan “Defund the Police” became a progressive rallying cry. Even many Republicans seemed amenable to criminal justice reform. “Kamala is a cop” became a pointed and effective attack line because there was a major and long-brewing national backlash against cops. Career prosecutors were not the moment’s rising stars.

Kamala's career woes were really started by George Floyd!

She had done all the right things to move up the political ladder, and then George Floyd changed the narrative!

She tried to make up for her image as a tough cop in this new environment by setting up that bail fund with her progressive friends for protesters arrested in George Floyd protests. People arrested for other crimes also got bailed out after the pool of arrested protesters ran out (as long as the arrestees fit certain racial criteria). Somehow, that didn't do the trick for her. The Slate piece didn't mention the bail fund. Or Tulsi Gabbard.

Anyway, Kamala's primary campaign in 2020 didn't go so well.

California Nightmares

It has always bothered me that The Party sent Gavin Newsom to escort Kamala Harris out of the primaries when she was sinking into disaster, before she was chosen as Biden's running mate.

And Newsom is making some moves to position himself for the nationals stage, too.

In her new book, Newsom Unleashed: The Progressive Lust for Unbridled Power, Ellie Gardey Holmes notes that Newsom and Gordon Getty helped elect Willie Brown mayor of San Francisco. Brown then appointed Newsom to the city’s Parking and Traffic Commission, followed by a promotion to the Board of Supervisors. “Newsom entered office entirely indebted to Willie Brown,” and locals referred to him as “an appendage of Willie Brown.” The powerful Democrat also had a thing for Kamala Harris, 30 years his junior.
Brown appointed Harris to lucrative sinecures and backed his main squeeze in runs for district attorney of San Francisco, attorney general of California, and everything beyond. So now contending for president are a former appendage of Willie Brown and a person experienced with Willie Brown’s appendage. .

It now seems so long ago that the press was confident of Biden's ability to beat Trump in the debate.

There is something wrong when the narrative can change so fast, with no adequate recognition of the part the press played in the big surprise of Biden's debate performance.

Looks like America is undergoing it’s own Orange Revolution. 6 Good Morning! Been wondering where I've been? Well, in the hospital for a few days. Went in because I had some symptoms that they say could indicate a heart attack in women. It wasn't a heart attack. But I had fluid around my right lung, and they drained much of it off.

Made my BP spike and caused other symptoms - shortness of breath, etc.

Now to figure out what cause it. There were no bacteria.

It also happened on July 4, in Beaverton, which is a mostly middle- and upper-middle class suburb on the west side of Portland. I'm not saying it wasn't deliberate, but it doesn't mean we've reached the "Fallujah" stage in the PNW, not just yet. If PDT gets re-elected, then I expect we'l have a full insurgency in the Willamette Valley.

10 There's speculation about Harris' refusal to use the pipe bomb event at DNC HQ in the capitol city on J6. She was there at the time. Her Secret Service detail was observed in the area where the pipe bomb was located and seemed to indicate they knew it was fake.

The speculation is about why she doesn't use the event to pad her street creed. She never mentions it. The media, obviously, doesn't report on it. Even though most people don't know the pipe bomb was fake.

Only ones that come to mind, regarding whom the Deep State would think are rising stars, are Wretched Whitmer, Gavin Newsom and Bootyjudge.

And they have "sidelined their vice president" for good reason. She's quite an idiot. They actually tried to give her things to do where she could have made a name for herself (i.e. the border and immigration). But she either failed spectacularly at that or she succeeded spectacularly at what she was told to do. Which was lie about border security while keeping the border wide, wide open for the flooding of illegals to use to fortify the 2024 election.

This is a general comment toward those that pontificate about politics.

Before criticizing someone else and telling them what to do--"What have YOU done to improve our political system." People in the trenches registering voters, volunteering to be poll watchers and election judges, showing up at local events manning a table and handing out pamphlets, etc. You can even join many voter integrity groups now to check off invalid voters in your local area.

I have been involved in politics at the national, state, and local level for decades and the most useless are those that watch a bit of news and suddenly believe they are the most informed pundits of the political universe.

No one, including DJT is going to save you if you don't take action yourself to do what you can do to change the system.

This is going to be a referendum election based on the Dems. Just as the election in UK was based on the Tory record and in France, Macron's. To some extent, what matters in such elections is more retrospective voting than prospective. Tories warning about how the skies would fall in the UK if Labor got elected did not sway the electorate much while their awful performance in government did. Labor, didn't do well either as their vote share was something around 33 percent or so but the Tories dropped even more and overall turnout dropped quite a bit.

Macron is in a similar pickle. For years, the left and the remaining centrists have tried to keep the right out of power by warning the sky will fall if LePen etc. take power. At some point, those phantom fears are overwhelmed by the stench of incumbent pols pissing all over the people and calling it needed rain to make society grow.
Germany and Australia also are examples that WEF policies are brain dead and evil.

My grandfather was hugely involved in politics on the local level, which inspired my father to run for office and win and be reelected many times.

When he moved to Chester County, Pennsylvania he contacted the (R) party and told them of his history. They said good, address these envelopes and then put stamps on them.

The 'good ol' boys' aren't too welcoming to new faces. Unless they have some grunt work to be done.

And here is the thing that bothers me with whitmer, she is extremely popular in Michigan. The wife3 has two sisters who live in Michigan and they both love her. I asked the one sister why and she just said some nonsense about her being a strong woman. When I asked her about the draconian lock downs and the fact that her and her husband avoided the lock downs by vacationing in Florida she had no real response.

She just cringed when I brought up the fact that the husband pulled the "do you know who I am married to" card when he got his boat in the water before she lifted the lock downs on the lakes. I don't get it, and neither sister is a flaming liberal.

I don't know if the Biden crime family can back off. If Biden resigns, Kamala (who Biden has treated like crap and humiliated personally) might not issue the needed pardons. If Biden does it going out the door before resigning, fairly or not, the general public is going to attribute corruption to Kamala and it will destroy any traction whatsoever to casual voters about Trump being convicted.

Other than Kamala replacing Biden, then you get problematic as to ballot access, funding, etc. and ginning up a NATIONAL, not state campaign in a hurry. Biden's campaign team already is viewed as part of the problem so wholesale replacement introduces more angst etc. Plus, Kamala has a lot of rivals viewing themselves as potential prezzies like Whitmer and Newsom if not Buttplug.

Hope you are feeling better. I had similar symptoms developed last summer. SOB,chest pain and dry cough. Chest X-ray showed a L pleural effusion (fluid in lungs). With more testing the cause and then the treatment were identified. Meanwhile I’ve had that fluid drained 3 times. Still some there But feeling one hell of a lot better.

When he moved to Chester County, Pennsylvania he contacted the (R) party and told them of his history. They said good, address these envelopes and then put stamps on them.

You go around them, plenty of local and state candidates welcome help directly but a lot of politics IS grunt work and no job should be viewed as beneath oneself regardless of credentials.

I've licked stamps, stacked and sorted mailers, been outside polling places with pamphlets, sat at booth at events, signed up voters and so on. Greet people at a cruddy empty storefront local campaign hq.

You do the work long enough as a volunteer (not a paid smarmy type looking for the next grift) and by and large you become known.

Then again, I grew up on a farm and am well used to shitty jobs growing up so licking envelopes doesn't bother me a bit nor cold calling missing voters election eve.

One of the reasons that kibitzers get jumped is you have presented no credentials as a political expert nor reasons why your political advise is useful or needed by the DJT team.

The campaign team has far more granular and better idea of what the different campaign electorates look like and most probably you are NOT the targeted audience. For Trump to win over the expected cheat, he is going for the low propensity voters (which worked in 2020 btw to the extent the cheat was rocketed to eleventy by the Dems to barely win) that basically dislike most the GOP officeholders as much as the Dems for being fake, lying, swarmy, grifting disgraces to humanity.

This is a referendum on the Dems in power less than it is about Trump this time.

My short stint in local politics left such a bad taste in my mouth I didn't walk away I ran. Candidate 'A' I supported with a lot of time and effort. Wrote letters of support to local newspaper, took polls of voter attitudes, graphic arts stuff. Nice reward with a luncheon at a name real estate developers home - Skip and vmom would recognize the name. The Top Guy in this area.

Yeah, she embarrassed the hell out of me by looking to approve something that same real estate developer wanted which would have busted our zoning laws and led to massive overdevelopment in my little town. While having run successfully on a platform of just the opposite.

I'm not saying others shouldn't do what they can, but it's no Sunday picnic out there.

I'm the first woman in my family to earn a college degree, waited til the right man came along and married him at the ripe old age of 45. SanFranPsycho, I believe had some dealings with her on the San Francisco local level when getting started. But, Kamala has a pattern of lots of aides leaving her various offices and not particularly speaking well of her. Apparently vindictive and blames her staffers for her own personal failings.

Stories have been around for years about the turmoil in her office and part of the bad blood between her and Biden is that Biden (or Jill) purposefully put Kamala as the point person for losing projects and leaked info to the DC political info circuit about her mismanagement of the VP office and poor political skills.

Due to my mother's condition (who is actually better shape speaking and reasoning if not memory), I am guessing a combination of vascular dementia (old timey hardening of the arteries diagnosis) and Alzheimers. Joe has already had brain damage due to his past two brain aneurysms and that leave a mark.

FWIW, intemperate anger is often more common with vascular than Alzheimers.

My mother is being treated by an excellent university medical hospital institute that specializes in adult dementia and aging and she has pretty much had all the tests. Spent a fair amount of time with the doctors discussing the issues and likewise seeing my mother interact with others at her memory care facility.

My father in law was misdiagnosed by a quack as having Parkinsons but really due to a particular heart medication side effect. Mis treatment of a non Parkison's patient with Parkinson drugs made matters much worse over the couple of months for my fil and simulated dementia for him. Fortunately we brought him to our locale and sent him to specialists that correctly diagnosed him and changed his heart meds to avoid the issue. He lived a couple of more years and never showed the signs of dementia or Parkinsons. Multiple myeloma leading to a heart attack got him.

Biden's margin of victory in AZ in 2020 was 10400 votes. In the RCP avg of all AZ polls yesterday, Trump was ahead by 6 points. Assuming the exact same turnout in 2024 as in 2020, i.e., about 3.3 million total votes, the DEMs would need to steal 200000 votes just to get to 50%. Fraud on THAT scale is a fantasy, imo.

Incumbent governments are losing elections across the West or languishing in unpopularity like in Australia and Germany.

What we are seeing is that the WEF/Global uniparty agenda is universally unpopular whether pushed by Tories, Social Democrats (Germany), Labor (Australia), Liberals (Canada), or Macron's so called centrists in France.

This election, unlike a lot of others in the past is more in line with the general population turning on those pushing mass immigration, useless wars like Ukraine, pervert worship, Covid Public Health tyranny, and Net Zero/Green Nude Eels. The dogs ain't eating the dog food and I think the oligarchs are beginning to get uncomfortable. They have the money but not the boots on the ground.

Biden's margin of victory in AZ in 2020 was 10400 votes. In the RCP avg of all AZ polls yesterday, Trump was ahead by 6 points. Assuming the exact same turnout in 2024 as in 2020, i.e., about 3.3 million total votes, the DEMs would need to steal 200000 votes just to get to 50%. Fraud on THAT scale is a fantasy, imo.

215 AZ passed a law after 2022 requiring that voters show proof of citizenship. This was a response to suspicions of fraud. The law survived a challenge in federal court already. However a state lower court judge enjoined it earlier this week. We'll see.

I think the new law indicates that things DO change for the better sometimes, fraud-wise.

The goal is prevention first and also putting a lot of these local jurisdictions under court injunctions in the first place such as mandating access to election judges, etc. That way, the enforcement is semi automatic. The other is massive cheats are only possible with bloated registration rolls and mail in ballots. A lot of non partisan voter integrity groups are involved in cleansing the registration rolls of dead, moved, ineligible, and nonexistent voters in fake addresses right now via motor voter lawsuits and finally the RNC is giving them aid in court. I can go on but gray box limits.

255 Helena - The honest answer is the practical limit is enforced by the total number of registered voters. That is a fixed number, and you can only go slightly over 100% (the same day registration fraud).

Math works out like this:

(Trump Vote) + (Biden Vote) + (Fraud)

The fraud has to be pulled from a fixed sized pool of "unused" votes.

The greater the differential between Trump and Biden vote, the harder it is logistically to pull in fraudulent votes to make us the difference.

Agreed. In most states (leaving out the few that have election day registration), having more ballots produced than actual registered voters is prima facie proof of fraud in court precedents. Then the question is margin.

Yes, the Democrats could in theory ramp up to eleventy but 400 million votes in a country of 350 millions or so will destroy any vestige of popular sovereignty is likely to result in regime suicide. Contra to people's beliefs, we are not a police state yet and due to federalism, decentralization, and the sheer vastness of the US are unlikely to be a consolidated E. Germany or North Korea in the near future. So there are practical limits to coercion and much of that is directed actually at their own purported voters--e.g. Antifa only exists as a force in blue cities, ditto for the urban riot gangs. Move outside of those areas into many of the suburbs and you get Kyle Rittenhouse effect.

The military in such a situation will stay in their barracks and a fair number of federal leos won't be enthused about propping up Biden.

They were worried at what types of havoc might occur if even small percentages - 5 or 10 per cent - of foreign nationals might cause, if they put a mind to it. That was their job to worry about such thing. It still is today, in fact.

This was a rationing of all food and retail goods economy. You couldn't even buy a tube of toothpaste without turning in the empty one. Complete mobilization of everything. Every thing. If they really thought they *didn't* need to round up foreign nationals from Japan - I would submit they would not have done so. It is a sad chapter in our nation's history for a lot of reasons, but a government that at least tried to win the wars it engaged in. Unlike .... Well, never mind.

The second is that I doubt anyone in the inner circle of the Bidens is both competent and an independent thinker, which means they all do what they are told, and are reluctant to change things because they don't understand why it works in the first place.
