Evening and morning to all the Friday-ers! 'Tis the consummation devoutly to be wished. It's an easy slide down from here, right? (Right?) I'm skipping a workout this morning. Heat index of 89 F. Fudd that, as someone suggested we say on the ONT. I'm sipping my coffee, puffing a little Pegasus blend, and waking up. How about you? So far, my conclusion is that I have no use in CoPilot nor do I trust MicroSoft. I strongly suspect this feature is there for the benefit of MicroSoft and not for the customer. Usually I shave four times a week: Saturday morning, Sunday afternoon, Tuesday and Thursday mornings. I've found that a 48-hour growth makes for a good comfortable shave and a very smooth face above and below my Commander Riker-style beard. I do the old-fashioned thing with soap or cream, a brush, and a safety razor -- either a vintage Gillette, or one of my new models.

Posted by: San Franpsycho at June 14, 2024 *** Old-fashioned safety razor shaving is a pleasure for me -- one I only discovered about twelve years ago. I used an electric, a Norelco rotary, for many years, and tried the multi-blade modern razors now and then. Usually nicked myself every time. Now I hardly ever do that, and my face and throat both feel great afterward. Aftershave, some lotion, and (if I have time) a bit of Clubman powder too. I usually shave *before* the shower. I get the same result as when I wait until afterward -- and the feel of a smooth face (again, aside from my trimmed beard) is cool. The idea, I have to admit, of using a straight razor is appealing, but I just can't see myself doing it. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at June 14, 2024 04:57 AM (omVj0) 34

The Ford Filtrum was a quirky trim line for the F150 pickup truck offered for a few years in the early 1990s. Meant to appeal to masculine tastes it became a subtle cue in in the homosexual community as a seemingly innocent identifier and was usually seen with some sort of rainbow decal. It was quietly discontinued after only two years and only a few thousand were ever produced.

Morning peeps
Mowed what passes for a lawn yesterday to avoid doing it when it's supposed to be in the 90's. Plus the pool water is about perfect. > Lounge Lizard < Posted by: Martini Farmer at June 14, 2024 06:33 AM (Q4IgG) 96
I would do the beard thing, but I'm completely bald on my sideburns and filtrum. And while my hair has finally gotten delightfully salt and szechuan pepper, the beard went white in grad school. So i look a bit too goofy if i let it have free reign of the facial real estate market.
Posted by: Warai-otoko It's definitely a case-by-case matter - for me, the convenience, grooming-wise, is the advantage. My youngest grand-nephew is going for something between a Cardinal Richelieu look and a goatee. Showed the Missus and me his Prom pictures and his date definitely seems to like it. I'm giving him a cautious thumbs-up, but that is a hard look to pull off without coming across as a hipster. As long as he doesn't start wearing a beret, all may be well. This is where a beard is the perfect solution - one needs only to trim it. Otherwise, let it grow out a bit for the winter, trim it to a reasonable briefness in the summer. One has to be watchful, though - if I let my winter "coat" grow out too much, it ends up looking like I'm auditioning for the part of Robert E. Lee in a film where he'd been marooned in the Arctic for a year.
Posted by: John Drake High Atop The Kopet Dag Realizes That It IS The Caspian Sea! at June 14, 2024 *** JD I do have a beard, as I mentioned -- a "Commander Riker" style (though I grew mine before Frakes did). I still have to shave the cheeks, lower lip parts, and the throat below it, though. Once I retire, I'm thinking of letting it grow out a bit more and shaping the chin portion to be a little fuller. Maybe. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at June 14, 2024 06:36 AM (omVj0) 103
Thanks to everyone who prayed for the musical performance at the church I serve. A quartet of very talented and nice young people came and played and we raised $500.00. Anything helps. Thanks for the prayers. Now, we need prayer that the township gives us the money for our open space before we have to close.

That's odd. It's what I use, and pretty much every grocery store near me carries several brands. I use the cheapest one they got, and no complaints. They don't all carry the handle itself, but the blades are there.
Posted by: Warai-otoko at June 14, 2024 *** Bed, Bath, and Beyond had Wilkinson blade packs, true. And Target has its "men's boutique" now, with the Van Der Hagen razors and blades, but as usual, buying online offers a greater range of choice and better prices. Wolfus, definitely stick with the Commander Riker look - that guy always wowed the ladies on ST:TNG and exuded quiet confidence. Picard may have said "Make it so!" but Riker got things done.

Still shaving with Mach 3 Turbo. Insanely cheap for me, as I only shave my neck and cheeks -- and a cartridge lasts me upwards of two years. Seriously. I'm like if the Jews wandering the Sinai had Gillette. Mine don't wear out.

I don’t know. That one episode where Riker went absolutely lunatic in love with the alien who was genderless absolutely threw me for a loop. I’ll never understand why the writers did that to Riker instead of some rando ensign character. Possibly the strangest Riker plot in all of ST:NG besides the one where he was injured on an alien planet disguised as their race and ends up in a hospital with Lilith from Cheers (Bebe Neuwirth?) seducing him before she’ll help him escape. Am i the only one who remembers the whitehouse.gov vs whitehouse.net debacle? Admittedly, this was in the Clinton Admin so associating the White House with a porn site wasn't that much of a reach..... Posted by: SDN at June 14, 2024 08:52 AM (2gqBa) 113

Yes. I was wondering how much it would increase the chances of hitting a porn site. Seems like a bad idea. Posted by: Polliwog the 'Ette at June 14, 2024 09:25 AM (XjtdB) 114

That URL redirect really seems a bad idea. Isn't whitehouse dot com still an adult site? I recall back in the early days of the internet I was going to a Babylon 5 fan site but mis-typed the URL. 1 letter difference, but it took me to some Norwegian adult site.
So yeah, an auto-redirect to a similar URL doesn't seem like a good idea. Posted by: pkudude99 at June 14, 2024 12:48 PM (wqqGa) 117
