The effect was deliberate: throughout his career, de Kooning prized experimentation, editing, and testing. To this end, he employed a range of techniques, from cutting, masking, and collaging to scraping, wiping, and blotting. Although he also produced individual sketches, the real sketching happened on his canvases. Yet this alone does not account for the unfinished quality of his finished painting. De Kooning’s purposefully fluid, undisciplined brushwork and his tendency to disregard contour lines produce a visual chaos that suggests incompletion, whether spatial, physical, or technical. "I refrain from finishing," the artist said in 1958. He elaborated in 1960: "I was never interested . . . [in] how to make a good painting. . . . I didn’t want to pin it down at all." Well, I agree with de Kooning's quotation! And here is a short discussion about it...and yes, it is more nonsense. So why did I post this? Because it is art. Having recently been back to the Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art I have to agree with CBD's comments regarding this style of work. It's ugly and self absorbed.
The reason I make reference to CBMAA above is even among the finest collections there are some works that just defy talent/thought. Don't get me wrong the museum is world class and has some of the most beautiful works I've seen in the world. But it also has strange modern works. Beauty is in someone else's eye! The idea of modernism is anti-traditionalism. It's a rejection of western customs, & a critique of what gave Western civilization it's identity. Many of the modernist artists saw WWI as the final proof that Western society was decadent and needed to be rejected for something else. So he's going semi vegan ---------- After my dad got prostate cancer in his 80s, vmom, and having read a book [I think it was Fats That Heal Fats That Kill], he decided to go semi-vegan to help in his treatment. So all types of seafood and poultry, cheese, pasta, and all vegetables and he did alot of his cooking with olive oil [although he was 2nd generation Northern Italian so that wasn't out there] that wasn't too different than my mom's normal cooking. She bought landscapes and figure drawings from students on the street that were beautiful, emotive, beautifully and carefully rendered -- for pennies on the dollar. I took a required art history class that focused, to my horror, on modern art. De Kooning et al would spout these word-salads that made me angry, when I tried to parse them. Not just that it was nonsense, but that it wasn't possible to hold any meaning beyond my ability. Somewhere in the middle of my final paper, I said that his English teacher should hang himself. It went without notice.
If you were to see a similar work in the museum, a little plaque would spout garbage about subverting expectations and framing the social-justice-something. I saw an odd a little movie titled , "Paint" streaming on Hulu this week that's based around a character that's more or less Bob Ross. It's a rather dry, low key sort of comedy. The kind you smile at and maybe chuckle but no big laughs. I enjoyed it for what it was. And if you can plug into its vibe, you will too. Not great but pretty good . Well, first, I'm surprised Musk is aware of video games. Rather than playing Starfield, he can just jump into one of his spaceships.
Starfield is terrible, but Starship had one mostly successful test so I don't think he's gonna jump in it quite yet. Still ahead of Boeing though. Second, Musk is right. Regardless of the practical outcome of bump stocks being legal, there is victory in the outcome being driven by the black and white text of the law. The country is best served when you can read a law and know what it means rather than relying on unelected bureaucrats or judges examing their innermost feels about the law resulting in you being guilty of something that they dreamt up.

There is another important and interesting element to this story. Hunter’s legal team has already signaled that it intends to invoke the 2nd Amendment on appeal. That’s right: they’re going to argue the NRA position that Form 4473 violates the Constitution. I happen to agree with this argument. The one right recognized in the Bill of Rights that is not contingent on anything at all is the 2nd Amendment. Therefore, I believe Form 4473 is unconstitutional. You don’t lose your right to free speech if you’re a drug addict. You don’t lose your right to freedom from searches and seizures.
