The Morning Rant: Minimalist Edition

punk-monkey.jpg

Gutting America's armed forces is a tried-and-true hobby of the dilettantes in congress and the administration who fancy themselves brilliant military strategists and experts on long-term geopolitical trends. Add to that the antipathy of the Democrat party to the concept of a strong military, and we have structural impediments to a powerful and efficient military. And the political purges begun by the Obama regime began the destruction of the officer's corps, and that has been ably continued by the retarded puppet currently sitting in the oval office. Oh...don't forget pure, unadulterated greed, in the guise of pork!

But the Biden/Obama junta is accelerating the destruction of our military in their latest pushback against the pro forma "Defense Authorization Act."

STATEMENT OF ADMINISTRATION POLICY

Just do a search for the word "oppose," and you will see exactly where they are focusing their destruction. For instance, they oppose incremental funding of another Virginia class submarine, instead they want the money to go into the bottomless pit of graft, otherwise known as infrastructure improvements. And their genius-level analysis of geopolitical trends tells them that we don't need a third missile interceptor site! And a "Drone Corps?" Apparently that's a silly idea, because obviously no army uses drones...or something like that.

Restricting DEI, paying the enlisted more, Tamping down AGW nonsense, making service academy appointments more objective, stopping transfer of Gitmo terrorists to the mainland...the administration opposes all of that.

This is a catastrophic reorganization of the military into an ersatz fighting force whose real mission is to shift the grand and glorious traditions of our military to a chaotic mess of woke idiocy, all concentrated on domestic functions, rather than the military's primary, legally defined mission to protect America from its enemies abroad.

Sadly, this has been going on for many years, and the senior officer corps is now 100% invested in this paradigm shift. How they expect to survive a real war is beyond me, although my guess is that the vast majority of these woke "warriors" have comfortable seats in the Pentagon and domestic bases...far from the fighting.

If anyone needs a reason to vote for Donald trump, here it is. Whether he can stop the destruction is a question that will be answered on January 20th, 2025. If he purges the leaders of our military of anyone who disagrees that the only mission is to kill our enemies and destroy their infrastructure, then we may have a chance. If he submits a military budget to Congress that does not fund anything outside of that mission, then we have a chance.

Civilian oversight and command of the military is a rational response to the historical interference of armies in politics. But when that oversight is allowed to co-opt military preparedness for political ends, it is just as destructive as a military that is invested in the political process. That is why Trump must be ruthless in his destruction of the military-political complex.

Can he do it? Can he choose the right people?

Same as Obama. And it makes a fair amount of sense.

The American empire is crumbling. Even if we're still technically competent enough to project our security umbrella (I'm not sure, but we probably are), we're not industrially powerful enough or rich enough to do it effectively anymore. The mission is changing because it *must* change. Even the dog knows it at this point.

And as that empire crumbles, things will get sporty at home. The gigantic global money laundry called "international trade" is already failing to act as a big enough buffer to keep us free from the consequences of our lack of fiscal discipline, and debt across the world is finally reaching its limits. Things are going to get bad at home. You only *think* inflation is bad at the moment.

If the rulers want to survive, they need *domestic* force, not international.

15 There was some discussion last night about a possibility the U.S.S. Eisenhower has been forced to retreat from Houthi attacks in the Red Sea.

Fortunately, it appears to be only a rumor/hoax.

However, even the rumor that a fully-equipped and combat ready carrier group can be routed by illiterate barbarians is a very, very dangerous signal that America cannot even defend its most powerful military assets.

It just emboldens and encourages bad actors (e.g., China, Iran) to continue their own strategic goals.

Deterrence is now off the table if these rumors about the U.S. Navy in retreat continue...

16 I'm seriously thinking that we might be safer off if all federal defense and law enforcement agencies and authorities were completely eliminated.

The FBI and DOJ are for sure completely useless for their intended mission and exist now only to punish the left's political enemies. We would be better and safer without them.

The armed forces too is probably more dangerous to regular normal Americans than not having one at all. I would gut the shit out of it, fire every single motherfucker in leadership, and start over with a much smaller force strictly limited to killing assholes overseas.

Destruction of the military must be a main plank within that strategy.

There are many reasons.

One is that they're implementing the changes to actually go do it, and Biden has no filter and keeps blabbing about it (just like when he invited Putin to invade Ukraine - whoops, that wasn't supposed to happen on live TV).

Another is that they love the idea of slaughtering domestic political enemies. It's a common fantasy for the ruling class. The men don't need their Cialis to get huge, throbbing erections and even a dried up old crone like Nancy Pelosi finds their juices flowing when they imagine killing dissenters by the millions.

They really, *really* want to do it, and are in a position to realize that desire. Not a good combination.

Government is supposed to do only those things that the citizens cannot do for themselves. (Nowadays "will not do for themselves" is in there, and should not be.) Stuff like defending the borders and coastlines. How would they do that? With a military -- thus answering part of your first question.

There's all sorts of things the citizenry cannot do for themselves. But that category is interpreted far too broadly now.

92 I'll leave it up to the military wing of the horde to expound, but seems to me that the officer corps of our military are costumed princes, very few who killed or were shot at.

Well, that's a little unfair. Just from the way the military is structured, once you hit the rank of Major or higher, you're probably on a high level staff and not directly engaged in combat anymore. With The War On Terror at 23 years, there are few general officers today that would have been in combat as junior officers or enlisted.

Promotion to General Officer ranks takes a lot of politicking, and pre-selection/grooming (no, not like Biden) by the current batch of generals, so it's more about the culture the senior leaders try to instill.

Senior officers, in my experience, all have advanced degrees and lots of civilian education. They skew more liberal than the rest of the force.

There was a fair amount of it that was straight practicality. The stuff is there, it's tough and it's big enough.

Example: the Japanese surrender on the USS Missouri. The British gave the United States an heirloom desk of some great value and pedigree (it belonged to some king or another, I forget the details) to use for the signing of the surrender document. It was shipped over and put on the ship.

When MacArthur saw the size of the party combined party to sign and receive the surrender, he had a mess table hauled up because it was big enough to accommodate the activity. The spectacularly valuable and sentimentally meaningful gift from the British was not.

Practicality isn't sexy, but it *is* effective.

128 Here's something about military readiness. This morning, I'm outside having coffee. It's Guard and Reserve training season at Fort Chaffee. A small convoy of six or seven civilian trucks go by, hauling equipment, a standard practice. If the Nation ever had a full scale mobilization, what with driver shortage and states like CA putting in restrictions on trucks, would there be enough to get the job done. With incompetent military leadership and the Department of Transportation a clusterfuck I doubt it. Supply chain problems anybody?

So then see, our enemies won't attack us, since they all have friends and family prospering here, already overthrowing the country from within.

THEN, after foreign nationals establish their little Mogadishus and little Beijings, and infiltrated every office of power ... there will be no need for military conflict. 154 Every career minded soldier, officer, and NCO jumped at the chance to form an "advance party" for Gulf War I. This makes sense - war is their business, and the standard for advancement.

For my part I reasoned there would be no reason to volunteer for something that was likely a certainty anyway. I remember my dad, troubleshooting my situation for mom, being both relieved and astonished that I was likely one of those left behind. They did need personnel on the bases to keep running things.

I seem to remember South Korea everyone stationed there was locked in from rotation for a time. At that point in time, not a bad deal necessarily.

Some good troops out there training, looking sharp, being helpful. then there were the fat ones...no other way to describe it. Overweight soldiers with shitty attitudes. Made me think, why are they here; and this is a leadership issue.
The leadership I've met is a mixed bag. Some are clearly focused on the job, others are obvious dilettantes. I've tried to remember when I was a captain and in moments of clarity, I think we had the same thing back then, but the culture was different.
American can still win wars, but it will be a bloody experience doing so. 20 years of "war" but I doubt there are 10 officers in the Army or Marines (ground units) that can effectively move multiple brigades around a battlefield.

Indeed. Just spending Memorial Day weekends weed-eating (with a machine) our 3/4-acre property was back-breaking work.

Wifey initially spent weeks clearing rocks and leveling the land by hand & shovel (making it possible to subsequently mow -- with a machine), and now frequently spends many a day clearing brush & cutting branches to keep the property "firewise" as our community is surrounded on three sides by national forest (and many unkempt lots) where wildfires can spread fast & furious.
