Wilkie consciously emulated these low-life scenes, charging similarly high prices, but the meaning of his work shifts with the tide of British culture in the later eighteenth century towards a more celebratory (some would say sentimental) treatment of ordinary people. Teniers painted ‘peasants’;
Wilkie painted the ‘the salt of the earth’. Posted by: rhennigantx at June 04, 2024 09:34 AM (ENQN6) 27

Geraldo Rivera @GeraldoRivera 14h Now #HunterBiden involuntarily takes center stage. He’s got serious tax issues, but this criminal case involves lying on his application for a gun purchase. He answered No falsely to the question of whether he was a dope fiend or alcoholic. Moral of the Story: As with Trump, politics not justice is the driving force behind this prosecution. Irony: Will the NRA support wasted Hunter’s right to keep and bear arms? Hunter is or until recently has been a selfish, self-serving, whore-mongering, child support-evading, junkie spectacle. That doesn’t change the fact the law under which he is being charged is almost never applied against someone who didn’t then use the weapon improperly purchased in a subsequent violent crime. This case is as rigged as Trump’s. Worker X @twit_ings “As with Trump”?? Are you comparing a serious gun and drug related offence with an expired misdemeanor? Seriously? One big difference, Trump didn't tell a bookkeeper to select "legal fees" from the quick books dropdown menu to categorize the payment to his lawyer. Hunter literally signed his name swearing he told the truth on his gun permit application. These are not the same thing. Meigs1865 @Cliffor10092138 I have signed three of those applications. The Felony is very clear for lying on an application. Anyone else is going to be charged, unless your last name is Biden. Stanford Thompson @stanf145 NRA doesn’t support druggie felons to have guns. Today is also the 20th Killdozer Day.
On this day in 2004, muffler shop owner Marvin Heemeyer of Granby, CO made his ire with local authorities known after a property dispute. He armored a bulldozer and leveled city hall with it, along with the neighboring businesses who he believed had wronged him through corrupt dealings with the city government. Prior to the event, he made it clear that he felt targeted and harassed by the city government, writing "COWARDS" on the memo line of a check for what he though were spurious and unfair fines and fees. Heemeyer took his own life at the end of his rampage. No one else was physically injured during his campaign of destruction, but he did destroy more than a dozen structures and did millions of dollars in property damage. "To me that is immortal, and this sort of stuff has a place in our museums." It does. Unfortunately, a great deal now winds up in the hands and houses of the elite. As we're now in a much different time of late, I have no idea if this is still a common wedding tradition, adopted from Italy: A satin bag carried by the bride. During a reception, guests would present envelopes of cash to help the newlyweds with their future arrangements. At some receptions, guests would also dance with the bride in return. Thanks, CBD. This made me smile. I was instantly reminded of a wedding reception I attended at a rural firehouse. About halfway through a fire alarm goes off and we had to move stuff so the trucks could go out. But it was a lot of fun, you know? People so invested in each other that such a paltry venue made no matter to their fun, even when interrupted by a moment of reality piercing their bubble. The bubble reformed quickly, and more fun was had. (No deaths from the fire, too, so no guilt!)
