The Quotes of The Day

Quote I

“The fact that they can more than likely represent Team USA in the Paralympics but he can’t run in the state meet in high school is unbelievable to me,” Athlete Kade Lubner

I have direct experience with the WIAA. It's a group of failed teachers who like sports and lording their power. Thinking outside the box would take their heads out of their asses.

Quote II

"My daughter was taken aback by how many rules there were," Anonymous Maryland Mom

Quote III

"If the investigation reveals an Islamist motive, then that would be further confirmation of the great danger posed by Islamist acts of violence that we have warned about."G erman interior minister Nancy Faeser

Borrowed from Frank Zappa's Billy The Mountain with some appropriate revisions. President Zelensky, Your great country needs you in the armed forces! Why, it's all fair and square, the lottery, you know? Your number came up
You can't go on running like this forever. Listen you Nazi t son-of-a-bitch!
You better get your ass down there for your fuckin' physical.......

Ukraine’s President Zelensky is still pushing for NATO involvement in the war, which would undoubtedly lead to World War III. He mocked NATO for its reluctance.

According to Responsible Statecraft, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky chided NATO states this week for their unwillingness to join the fight against Russia directly.

We gave you billions, now you want our blood and treasure? Fvck off 3rd rate tyrant.

New York to ban smartphones in schools

Why do kids even have smartphones in schools? The state is planning to ban them, allowing only dumbphones that allow calls and messaging but not the distracting apps that come with iOS and Android.

[Governor Kathy] Hochul said she would launch the bill later this year and take it up in New York's next legislative session, which begins in January 2025. If passed, schoolchildren will be allowed to carry simple phones that cannot access the internet but do have the capability to send texts, which has been a sticking point for parents. She did not offer specifics on enforcing the prohibition.

The good news is my wife has to shop with slow bandwidth. The Biden economy would end if she had fiber optic links to market.

109 A few notes about the pic. It was taken right along the Improved Mexico-Regular Mexico border just east of Columbus, Improved Mexico. For the record, Poncho Villa attached Columbus in 1916 because his crappy spies missed the entire garrison stationed there. This lead to Team Poncho incurring about 75 KIA and wounded. On the other hand Team Poncho did burn Columbus to the ground.

The yuccas*are* the forest in these parts and they, at times, take on shapes that seem almost human. This sent me on a quest to find one that most perfectly captured that perspective. The fact that it looked it was being robbed by Regular Mexico bandito made it even better. The two beer cans off to the right side were there and completed the scene.

166 The sound of the wind at its peak was terrifying. Straight line winds, but they’re equal in damage to an F1 tornado. I was watching the big trees bend over and was terrified they were going to break. Very lucky only a few smallish limbs came down.

We sat through a Class 1 hurricane while vacationing on the Outer Banks one year. The sound of the wind was such that I had to keep moving around the house during the storm. Checking the windows, doing laundry, vacuuming the carpets( the electricity didn't go out. Miracle of miracles) anything to keep busy so I didn't have to listen to the wind.

It's very strange. I've been in a Civil War that tore a country apart and it is eerie. I'm now getting, for no particular reason, Instgram invites that never showed up before. I'm just saying. I recognize at least two of them that I tried to reach out to, years ago, one of whom lives doors away from Obama! So... this is looking very strange to me.

169 re: "climate vaccines" - The existing COVID jab dumpster fire is a good peek into what to expect on jabbing cattle. The shots have lots of problems - massive (over 1/3 of the total payload in some cases) contamination with production plasmids and junk DNA/RNA, inclusion of SV40 cancer promoting genes, all kinda of fuckery with synthetic neucleotides, and - most recently, what now appears to be a deliberate effort to transcribe CRISPR landmarks into the jabbed population.

But the real alarm bells for cattle jabbing is the promotion of prion formation. That's likely the plan here: "oh no, looks like the cows all have prions, sorry, no more beef... oopsie!"

The fix for this is rope. We are way, way into crimes-against-humanity territory here on the medical implications alone, not to mention that in my opinion, "no burgers" is an irreconcilable break in the societal compact. If they do this, either they go or we go; there is no longer a real argument that the burning times will be too steep a price to pay.

Another note, is I expended exactly the same amount of effort getting the pic as as every other landscape painter/photographer I have ever studied. This means I was very likely hung over from drinking the night before which meant if I had to walk more than 50' from the car for a photograph it wasn't happening. Landscape photographers like leaving the impression they hiked 50 miles into the wilderness to get a pic and had to fight with a grizzly bear. They don't.

Mis-folded proteins that prompt other, properly folded ones to misfold in a sort of terrifying ICE-9 kind of train wreck. Think mad cow disease, scrapie, Creutzfeldt–Jakob disease. They are 100% fatal when they cause a disease, no exceptions, although it may take years. Worse yet, normal medical sterilization doesn't do jack shit - autoclaves, normal sorts of cleaning chemicals. You need incineration.

What they are fucking around with here has extinction potential - on top of the half dozen ways to cause cancer.

248 In my litany of covid-jab bullshit I also forgot to note that the nanolipid stuff they wrapped the payload in was an off the shelf gene therapy component specifically advertised for penetrating the blood-brain barrier, and which was well known to congregate in specific organs - and which was touted for its high rate of transcription (that's the stuff IN the nanolipid coating being integrated into your own genome).

So all of this foul crap in the shots isn't just "staying in the arm", and they knew full well it wasn't going to "stay in the arm"

My Best Man Chris and I, instead of some drunk debacle with people I barley knew in Vegas, went instead camping in Joshua Tree for 2 nights of a drunk debacle which capped with a chimney slot climb at night (some climbing folks would say a V-4c attempt) with a lit Coleman gas lantern at about 350 ft vertical to top of the rock and alot of screaming and yelling.

I blacked out mid decent but somehow made it back to our campsite.

The next morning, hung over in the worst possible way...I semi-crawled out of my tent and saw a group of German tourists standing next to their tents with cups of coffee...staring at me and shaking their heads like they had seen something very scary.

287 I just caught up with JJ's note and it really has me a bit wet-eyed. That friend of mine who just passed had a brain infection. It's strange, but I look back at those weeks before he passed as happy. They were desperate at the time, but... he was still with us. We were all at his side. We all sat in his room. JJ's family and friends have a precious time of intense unity and love ahead of them. I'm still hoping for a miracle. Posted by: Blonde Morticia

I had a similar reaction this morning when JJ announced the severity of the situation. Your comment about the time before your friend passed as being happy also resonates with me. My Aunt was diagnosed with cancer and she decided to refuse treatment - the quality of whatever time was left to her was far more important than the length of the time. She was utterly calm and that steadied all of us and changed the nature of her passing to something life affirming. I often reflect on that now that I in OT part of my life and hope I find such serenity.

Currently rather relevant - it *appears* that a lot of blood/blood products that got rejected due to HIV/hepatitis testing in the US, instead of being destroyed mighta, kinda, oops been bought by NHS over in the UK for 30 years, during which they deliberately hid all the people getting sick and dying.

In addition to just sourcing blood from populations in the US that are normally were not allowed to give blood.

True, not our circus or monkeys, but the Ukrainians have always hated the shit out of the Russians and for good reason. This isn't a lover's spat, it's the guy off his meds who keeps beating his ex because he "loves" her. If there is any doubt, just go watch Russian state directed media talking about how it's regrettable that the Ukrainians keep struggling, and now might just have to all be liquidated.

As to why DC is involved - it's because they (with a silent assent from China) tried their damnedest to tee the whole war up in the first place. It was an objectively retarded move for Russia but excellent for the western left and for China. Russia could have used other methods for this, although objectively speaking there was probably ZERO chance of most of Eastern Europe not making an alliance, NATO or not. They also hate Russia with good reason.

You can try to do this before procedures, or have family do it - it's possible short term. But yes, they do in fact make screw things up sometimes. I've seen one firsthand with my immediate family.

Also heard some talk recently about the Aussies or NZ seizing custody of kids when parents started making noise about banking blood for them before procedures.

We don't talk here a whole lot about the magnitude of what is going on in the medical world but it probably is going to dwarf the significance of anything since WW2, at least until WW3 really gets rolling. I think plan C for dealing with Trump is probably breaking the MSM embargo but then trying him to shots with the "operation warp speed" thing.

It was great fun, and a couple of teachers were avid fishermen themselves. I think they enjoyed watching our endeavors as much as we did. BTW, my dad was the principal at that school....and my mom one of the teachers. That was back when education (both socially and academically) mattered.

As I'm not sure at that time Greece was even a place, that some tribes didn't like the idea of a 'natural death' and if anybody got old they'd put them in a sealed house and starve them, or strangle them, or if was cold to let them freeze.
Some would slit their throats and eat the flesh.

What if you eat it sparingly?

Illness severity depended on how much liver the explorers consumed, but symptoms typically included drowsiness, sluggishness, irritability, severe headache, bone pain, blurred vision and vomiting. Perhaps the most horrific symptom they encountered was peeling skin. While milder cases merely involved flaking around the mouth, some accounts reported cases of full-body skin loss. Even the thick skin on the bottoms of a patient's feet could peel away, leaving the underlying flesh bloody and exposed. The worst cases ended in liver damage, hemorrhage, coma and death.

492 Kerosene was not so much of a salvation of the whales, though it did help. The original whale oil shortage was in the early 1800's when the close fisheries started to collapse. The price of whale oil went up, and there was developed "burning fluid" or Capmphene, which was a mixture of turpentine and alcohol, and sometimes camphor oil. It threw about as much light as a standard oil lamp, a bit more than a dip candle, but unfortunately in a whale oil lamp it could boil the fluid and be an explosive danger.

the Kerosene lamp was a solution for that problem and allowed other innovation. Kerosene was brighter and cheaper to buy, and didn't explode which was a good selling point.

I have mixed and used "burning fluid" from turpentine and alcohol and burned it in a kerosene lamp. It works, just not as well as kerosene. I read it was a mix of 1:4 of turpentine to alcohol. I burned it outside because I had no idea if the risk was high or not. It is like using a candle for light, it certainly is light, it is not enough to read by.

beri-beri is from eating polished rice and no other grains, and pellagra is from eating non-nixtamalized corn, The second is a niacin shortage I think, not sure of the beri-beri

when my wife was a kid in Korea, the government had inspectors who came to the schools to inspect children's lunches to make sure there was some barley mixed in with their rice. No one liked barley because it was a "low class" grain and indicated you were poor. She said she would get mad because the "rich kids" who were sent to school with pure rice would snatch barley from her lunch, because it was mostly boiled barley in her box, on the inspection days.

508 FWIW, during WWII food rationing in the UK meant that a lot of people. especially those in their equivalent of the Civil Service, had to consume whale meat quite a lot. And it was cordially detested, according to every account I've come across. It was a particular complaint among the codebreakers and associated staff at Bletchley Park.

I wonder what would be the equivalent here in the States if we had to go with extreme austerity. My vote for most detestable would be possum meat, although Depression-era members of my family actually spoke fondly of it. One particular uncle would rhapsodize about "possum and arsh taters," the NE Mississippi pronunciation of "Irish potatoes." You can always recognize someone from that region by the "r" phoneme - Fire Tower, for example, would be pronounced "Far Tar."

Let it be known to all with ears to hear and eyes to see!

Since becoming a truck driver I've heard the song Karma Chameleon more times than I ever did as a kid when it first came out. And at truck stops, no less!

I'm tired.

Night.

they don't nixtamalize corn in Colombia or Venezuela, traditionally, though there is some tamale type corn meal sold there. However they have other things to eat there as well.

There is a school of thought that when corn was first introduced to the indians cultures in North America, the Mound Builders and the Anazasi and Aztecs in particular, the increased calories and the required cultural organization caused a population boom and a resultant prosperity for the culture, but there appears to be a related rise in very brutal behavior. There are sites in the mound builder (mississippian culture) that have mass burials of what appear to have been women who were of high status since they ate nothing but corn, and there are rumors of very brutal infighting among the Anazasi, and both the Missisiipian and Anazasi had not well explained cultural collapse. One of the symptoms of Pellagra is dementia and delusions, and if the godking is having paranoid hallucinations that might lead to societal collapse

Ah, but how do you make the connection between non-nixtamalized corn and the behavior?
The Japanese had a similar issue back in the 19th century; nobles and others of high rank were going crazy and dying of some strange neurological disease. It wasn't until legislation was passed that naval seaman were to get only polished rice instead of the brown rice they had been eating was the connection finally made, as the sailors started contracting the same neurological disease.

537 The better argument is that because the free market won't do a study, the government will. If there is profit in knowing something than the market will seek it out unless there are incentives not to. One could make an argument that ALL government funded studies are bs, because if they were worthwhile someone would pay for them.

There is a similar argument to be made for publicly funded art.

You get no real rise out of corn meal though it might be a bit lighter.
chances are that the boiling with wood ash or slaked lime was a way to break up the very hard shell on the kernels and make them easier to grind up and process, the lye would help break it up faster and make a lighter and tastier starch
And as I said, corn boiled in wood ash lye smells oddly good when it is boiled

all the cultures that depended on corn knew to treat it some how to liberate the niacin. I will guess that the ones that figured it out survived, and the ones that didn't suffered massive collapse from the staple crops making them first prosperous, and then destroying them from nutritional deficits

This is fascinating, and could also explain the evidence archaeologists have come across of cannibalism at various Anasazi sites. I've seen some speculation that Aztec raiding parties were doing the killing and human consumption, but I wonder if it ties in with the theory above. Could also be a good motivation for the Anasazi cliff dwellings.

592 This also brings back memories of a friend at school whose father was a long-haul trucker - both he and his dad described the trip across the 49th Parallel as "drivin' inta Cuh-NAY-der." Neither one, father or son, was willing to even entertain the idea that CuhNAYder was a separate country.

On the flip-side of this, I happened to be at the local hospital here near the Delta when women from the Pilot Club (no aviation connection - it's a female counterpart to the Rotary Club, and the name derives from the Mississippi steamboat pilots) were doing charitable work. One of the ladies had a notably Canadian accent, and chatted with me for a bit.

I asked which province she was from, and she told me she was from northern Ontario and when I asked if moving here to Mississippi was a major transition, she said it was only a little change, and then asked me, with all sincerity, "It's like a different country up there -we are separate countries, aren't we?"

She legitimately wasn't sure if the US and Canada were two separate, sovereign entities.

Funny weather thing. I was looking over GSP's May weather records at the close, and noticed they had a 'T' (trace) of *snow* recorded on May 26th.

I said WTF? So I asked cousin, what the hell are they smoking over there. Turns out that "snow" in the summary records there is any form of solid precipitation. Including hail, which they had.

There was some hail visible on the ground, but no accumulation was measurable. Thus a "T" of snow.

He said don't worry, the detailed records note that it was hail, and thus not snow snow, so no worried about any latest snow records or anything.

At least your co-worker knows he's from a different nation-state. The lady I mentioned was an intelligent and community-oriented (in the best sense) person, but she really wasn't sure whether Canada was part of the United States. She was one of those people that we have here as well who had apparently never given any thought to matters political or felt it was relevant to her. One of my nieces is another - she's in her early forties now and is only just beginning to take notice of what's going on. I think the current Administration was a wake-up call for her, and she doesn't like what she's seeing.

Our current cat is an indoor cat - by her choice, not ours. She wandered up out of the night as a kitten, and once we took her in, I think she saw the Great Outdoors as something she did not want to re-visit. Like, never ever.

The previous cat, though, loved going out, so long as he was able to be back in by sunset to be with his humans. He would constantly bring in creatures he had captured - lizards, birds, even a mole once. For the most part, they were alive, and he would release them. It was like "Look! I brought something in that we can play with!"
