Note from Pixy: We're on the new server. Had a few hiccups, but it's mostly working except everyone has the same hash. That particular problem is being pretty stubborn.

That's one of the things that is great about it. Fairly restrained dialogue. The people have to emote. Oddly, it is probably a more effective 'movie' (story telling in a visual form) than most others I can think of.

If you like people emoting in movies...

Check out "Cleopatra" (1963).

We watched it last night. It's one of the beautiful and historically-curious Mrs naturalfake's faves.

My understanding is that it was a big flop in it's day, however-

"Cleopatra" stands up well in these days of streaming series where nothing much happens for episodes on end.

"Cleopatra"s 4 hours plus(!) running time seems comparative breezy.

Excellent acting. by all. Even Liz Taylor! Interesting script that flattens the expected high-flying rhetoric to a slightly elevated American style speaking. Reasonable Hollywood style interpretation of the Caesar, Cleopatra, Mark Anthony story.
Great old-style Hollywood sets. No CGI.

The downside?

Could use more action, but it has enough for what is essentially a romantic history of the Ladies.
Think of Cleopatra as a more regal Scarlett O'Hara.

Also it makes Mark Anthony a bit of a simp as he gives up everything, and i mean everyfuckingthing for love.
I suppose that's what makes him so dreamy.

Definitely a movie that needs a new appraisal Check it out.
