Thanks for the great ONTs. I've been away for awhile, for sanity, but it's nice to be back. Anyways, earlier this week I asked about ONT's. I thought they used to go to over 1000, but as I remember it, maybe 700 a decade ago. But people were talking about a 1000 post ONT. And scrotum guy and pump guy were mentioned below. A funny bit from "Enterprise" was when Lt. Reed invented this "tactical alert", a way to keep all weapons and defense systems online with a single order from the captain. They called it a "Reed alert" informally. There's a scene where they're all deciding what they should call this Reed Alert. There's red lights flashing and the "whoop" sound going off. What should we call it? Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at May 17, 2024 10:38 PM (w6EFb) 112

Was in a really great Watch Party (via Kast) with Roger Corman's "Attack of the Crab Monsters." You cinema snobs may scoff at the title, but it's a fascinating well-paced film with an interesting premise that keeps escalating. I asked the folks if there was a scene or even a frame that could be cut, and everyone was "No, every moment contributed and pushed the overall narrative."
Compare and contrast with today's "Rings of Power" or "Doctor Who" where cutting every single frame would improve the product exponentially. RIP Roger Corman. Your like shall not be seen again upon this realm, and those of us who love movies are the poorer for your leaving us. Posted by: BeckoningChasm at May 17, 2024 10:48 PM (CHHv1) 134

One of the funniest episodes of the whole thing was a Voyager episode, last season, where Seven of Nine has to "host" the Doctor internally. Some premise where they're captured by aliens who outlaw holograms. So, Seven has to save the doctor by transferring his program to her Borg brain circuits. The doctor then takes her over. He's never experienced human senses before, and goes wild. Jeri Ryan did an hilarious job of channeling the Doctor's character. Roger Corman bluntly admitted several times he was the usual Hollywood Leftist. His movie 'The Intruder' with Shatner was the one movie he poured his soul into, with little expectation of it actually making any money.
Quote: "I think it failed for two reasons. One: the audience at that time, the early sixties, simply didn’t want to see a picture about racial integration. Two: it was more of a lecture. From that moment on I thought my films should be entertainment on the surface and I should deliver any theme or idea or concept beneath the surface." Corman admits he did design his movies to have a political subtext, which flies in the face of his image as being driven purely by audience satisfaction and capitalist profit. @173 - no argument there. Corman's politics typically poisoned his "woke" films, as all politics do. I'm speaking strictly of his "teen drive in make out films" which are great, and many years before he became "important."
His Poe films are also great. Kind of mirrors James Cameron. "The Terminator" is great, everything after that is feminism on parade. Posted by: BeckoningChasm at May 17, 2024 11:07 PM (CHHv1) 192

Hopefully correct, BUT they now have Google and WEF and all the globalists with so much power. If EVER there was a chance for "total control", the system is being built to enable it. They had three graduates speak. One was getting her PhD and two were getting their BA's. They did a good job and were not "woke" in the slightest. One woman who was a chemistry major said that her father died during college and how kind her professors were "______" even didn't mind me crying in his office. Another guy who graduated Magna Cum Laude in Business Admin was the captain of the football team. The little blurb in the commencement bulletin said how important his Christian faith was to him. Apparently trading insults between Congresspeople has gone on a long time. Somebody posted this on the "Legal Insurrection site:
T’was ever thus: (During the Lincoln administration) “Cameron’s corruption became so notorious that Pennsylvania Representative Thaddeus Stevens, asked whether there was anything Cameron would not steal, said, “I don’t think that he would steal a red hot stove.” Cameron demanded Stevens retract this insult, and so Stevens said to Lincoln, “I believe I told you he would not steal a red hot stove. I will now take that back.” And in the musical 1776 the Congressmen insult each other with one even saying to John Adams-"Will somebody shut that man up?" Great story. I took care of the first two cats when they were in the sunroom. And when my friends went away, I felt so bad for the cats, I'd go by twice a day, play with them, tire them out, tuna on Saturday. Twilight eventually clawed through the screen and they became outdoor cats. Tney always remember the love I gave them. Theu come up to me, I pet them and they meow. Damn it, I'm a cat person. But just for my brother's cat who came up to me while I was fixing the computer and was so friendly, he may as well have been a dog, Starry, Trumpy, Snowflake and Trumpy and the nine kittens. The Harrison Butker reminded me of a slow news day. Low level NFL guy, not "mainstream" in the eyes/worldview of the media writers and readers. Yet all their articles were breathless in their headlines and word choice. Comment sections on the articles were filled with a lot of dismissive/eye rolling remarks about why it is even a story. His message was not controversial. I'd prefer no speakers at graduations - nobody really remembers the speeches. I did like Gracie Hunt's comments about Butker.

the convo on the "at the end of the day," of "it is what it is" and so on. I had a boss. one of the few people who was actually my boss in that industry used to say it all the time. I put up with it, then I got moved into a new position and I didn't have to kowtow anymore.
He would say, "Well at the end of the day. . ." and I would immediately ignore him. At the time we were working nights, and I would say at like 2am. . . "well, the day ended 2 days ago so you can shut up now." (we were also friendly, so you knopw jokes) "It is what it is, so. . " " GTFOH! It is? I thought it was something completely different, I have to change my paradigm, please leave me alone while I modify our texts." He knew what I was doing and I knew what he was doing, he was admitting he was completely unaware, and I was admitting that I saw him for the fraud he is. It works in a closed environment where it's purchasing hardware. It doesn't when it applies to defending or persecuting the liberties of individuals at a governmental level.
