Oh, My Love Hi KT,Looks fun! The alpaca got sheared today. We no longer have vanilla and chocolate marshmallows, we now have Q-tips! And a third horse, Rusty Wandering Neurons. Madison is much improved and going home 1900 hours 5/24/24. Thanks for prayers.Great news! This picture is the one from the Rescue Organization that was on their website. He was just over 1 year old. Dear Ace of Spade Pet Morons, Some time ago I emailed you with a tribute to my prior dog, Astro, sent to the Pet Thread on October 23,2021. You published it, thank you! So here I am with a tribute to my present dog, Buzz. He just celebrated his 10th Birthday, and is doing great. I got him from a rescue organization and it's been an amazing ride with him. He's a German Shepherd mix, and is a sweet dog that loves people and has an unusual look. He gets attention all the time, while people mostly ignore me, which is as it should be. I thought it was time for him to be part of the AoS Pet Thread. QuietOneinNYC Note - I'm no longer in NYC or even NY State. Things are better. Even for him.Buzz does have an unusual appearance. He looks like a great dog! Happy Birthday, Buzz! Guarding the house from moose Hello,So glad that you have BB! What a wonderful collection of pet stories today. Our old black cat Ony (looks like the one above) wanders into the closet now and then, and makes forlorn-sounding noises. We call her and she comes trotting out like nothing's going on. Don't know why she does it.
Two nights ago, about 3 in the a.m., MiladyJo and I just happened to both be awake when all of a sudden Ony starts intensely caterwauling and hissing, like she sometimes does with Daisy dog, only times ten. She was at the open window and apparently did not like something outside. We looked but saw nothing. Daisy ran in as backup. We're used to Daisy barking up a storm at any hour, usually in response to we can't see what. Good to know that Ony is also a great defender of Fortress Webworks. Just now I was dreaming about dogs. Apparently I was getting ready to go for a workout, but somebody (in the dream, some member of my family) was playing wolf sounds or forest animal noises on a tape recorder, loud enough for the dogs to hear and be upset. I stepped outside and all the dogs wanted to chase after me. I don't know if they thought I was prey, or if I were another member of their pack and this was play time.
With dream-logic, of course, going back into the house was not in the cards. I threw some sticks for the dogs and trotted off, but some of them kept coming after me. And it was dark, pre-dawn, and some of the sidewalk stretches were unfamiliar to me; I was afraid I'd trip. I could hear a couple of hounds coming up after me out of the dark . . . and then I woke up. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 25, 2024 04:09 PM (omVj0) 26
I mentioned a while back that Daisy dog's training collar seemed to have disappeared. Son-in-law was mowing and found it out on the lawn. Apparently she managed to slip it off over her skinny skull. Although it's what you'd call water resistant, it didn't entirely survive being left out in a couple of monsoons. Takes but will not hold a charge. I see they're on sale at Amazon today. Good, because Daisy was responding well to the buzzer and vibe settings, with verbal commands. She responds to "here!" better than ever. (Have not used the shock buttons. I tried it on my bare leg, and... I figure it'll get her attention if needed. If I can break her of chasing cars and rider mowers, she'd be dang near perfect.)
Her barking wildly at the front door sometimes means just the neighbors' driving around. But this week she went wild twice, once for what we think was a big snapping turtle loping out in the circle, and the other time at what looked like a skunk, slinking along by the high grass. Really hope she doesn't have a hard lesson from either one. She's smart, but ignorantly inexperienced. Posted by: mindful webworker - so very much fur! at May 25, 2024 04:12 PM (rn/DW) 27
Had a stray dog wake me up yesterday morning barking at my back door. Guess he was looking for a home. There is no way I can take on a dog at this point in my life. I swatted him with a broom. It got the hint and went looking far a home else where. I felt sorry for the poor thing.

The feral tortoiseshell cat with the white tail tip showed up again near my door last night. I put some dry food out for her. Glad she's still around -- living in here with equally feral yoots, cars driving everywhere, and the possibility of a stray coyote wandering in and discovering a snack, I'd been thinking her odds were and are poor.

It’s the beginning of the season when my kittehs drive me crazy by wanting to go into the garage . It’s not a problem during the non summer months because I don’t have to keep checking to see if they pushed the door open to come back in . They are going to pressure test my A/C system.

Love Madison, she looks like my Julius. Eromero, you're lucky about the diabetes. My tortie Susannah was diagnosed with it two weeks ago; she's 12. Glad to see you also have a "Ruger" to help you in your garden! Our Ruger was a large, male, yellow lab that also liked to help in the garden. Posted by: Pillage Idiot at May 25, 2024 *** "Ruger" would be a good cat name too. I considered naming Stirling "Marlin" at first -- not so much for the rifle but for a blend of pipe tobacco that I like the name of. But I found it too easy to morph it into "Marvin." "Stirling" he became. Ruger, Luger, Colt, Browning -- all would make good cat or pet names. "Kalashnikov," maybe for a Siberian cat? Nah. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 25, 2024 04:47 PM (omVj0) 44
Still too hot and sunny outside for me to consider venturing to the mailbox.
Big Stirling is having a dry food snack. Little Dagny (who slept with me again this afternoon!) is sprawled on her second favorite spot, the top of the TV stand, so that her back blocks a lower corner of the TV screen. Her favorite? The windowsill in the bedroom, which gets hot sunlight behind the drapes for a good part of the day. Stirling likes that too. Posted by: butch at May 25, 2024 *** That was how I came to adopt Wolf, the big shaggy black cat who lived with me from 2011 to his passing in 2021. I'd seen him roaming out near his people's apartment for a year or so. Then they got evicted -- and left him behind. Didn't go around to neighbors saying, "Hey, we can't take Midnight [his name then] with us, he's a great cat, we wondered if you'd like to adopt him?" Nope; left him to fend for himself and go door to door for handouts. He seemed very pleased to move in with me. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at May 25, 2024 05:13 PM (omVj0) 50
