The pro-Hamas demonstrations at UCLA have been violent, much more so than on other campuses. At times it can most accurately be described as riots that have broken out. It's inexcusable that the police were not brought in after the riot on Tuesday, which injured more than 20 people. UCLA has been slow to respond to the escalating violence. On Tuesday the university declared the encampment unlawful. The protesters chanted "KKK" at police who monitored the activity on campus. The Hamas supporters yelled that they were not afraid of the police. They planned to fight back. There were reports on Wednesday that Jewish students began fighting back. Maybe that is what led up to the police moving in on the encampment. The university had to finally act. Outside agitators have been blamed for some of the violence. Protesters liked arms and made a line to keep the police away from the tents in the encampment. Faculty members and university staff joined the students in their demonstration. An overwhelming show of force by police arrived to deal with the situation. As we have seen with other demonstrations, it's the only way to get the job done. The demonstrators have no respect for law enforcement. As I watch what is unfolding, LAPD is arresting protesters one by one. They are being handcuffed with zip ties and led away. It's mostly peaceful and calm. Many protesters are wearing hard hats and protective goggles. They sprayed police with fire extinguishers. Police essentially corralled the protestors, many into the library, to keep order and make arrests easier.At UCLA, protesters -- a lot of woke women here -- cry and even hyperventilate as they're arrested. They especially don't like the police taking off their dirty masks for the cameras.

Try Vincent Guaraldi. If you liked his Charlie Brown soundtracks. Another is Take Five by Dave Brubeck and co.
Dixieland Trad jazz is also much to other people's liking--Preservation Hall, Louis Armstrong and band, etc. are excellent examples of Nawlins trad jazz.
Coltrane or Parker, I can take or leave depending on the mood. At a certain point, jazz can descend into self wankery and solipsism. Good jazz is a dialogue among musicians and with the crowd watching.

I was a 3L law student at Boalt Hall (UC Berkeley). It was the end of the spring term and we were in the middle of exam week. Then down in Los Angeles Sirhan B. Sirhan shot and killed Bobby Kennedy. I had an examination the next morning. The professor came in and told the class that if anyone was too upset over the shooting death of Bobby Kennedy they didn't have to take the exam--and he'd figure out some grade but wouldn't fail anybody.
I figured screw that. I lot of things would or could upset me in my professional life and my future clients would expect me to perform regardless. So I took the exam.

A breakthrough column of trucks/APCs gets hit hard once it is spotted. The Russians are using small groups moving dispersed. When they find an enemy group, it is shelled, droned, or fuel air bombed until it quits shooting back.
So to me I think that the problems of "big arrow" offensives these days don't have a good answer. But, also, as you say Russia doesn't want a quick win, it wants to punish the Ukranian army.

As an Ole Miss alum, I wondered how things would go down if the Hamas-aholics decided to start things there. Turns out it went pretty much as I expected. Hopefully, Chancellor Boyce will reflect the same spirit. There's some indication that he will from the video, as the protestors are blocked within one narrow portion of the Grove that won't really impede any normal students' freedom of movement, and nothing really vital to campus function is made unreachable.

Sorry, that's just biology. And psychology bears it out. These events do NOT cause lasting problems for these teenage boys.
Change the dynamics a little, and maybe it does. Make the boy pre-teen, and it's very different. Make the perp male, and it's VERY different.

The usual are depression, inability to bond with others over time, trust issues, infidelity, substance abuse, and self worth.

The usual are depression, inability to bond with others over time, trust issues, infidelity, substance abuse, and self worth.

They have only been able to hold that line due to a lack of supply. But a lot of the 155 and ATACMS are now coming back into the units. The latter will especially give them an advantage due to the stand-off distance. Along with some of the more sophisticated SAM that are moving in, it will be interesting to see what happens when Putin makes his predicable offensive move. It's going to test his ability to take casualties, because that movement will cost a lot. I have no dog in this fight btw, I think it's basically a stalemate that will continue to cost both sides greatly and test their appetite for attrition.

I love this notion that your degree means you have to work in that field. Doesn’t work that way. Most of corporate America is people with “useless” degrees like English, philosophy, poli sci, etc. even more so Wall St. I remember one IB recruiting on campus specially saying they didn’t want business majors but liberal arts majors. MBAs on the other hand are welcome.

I have heard nothing about any significant shell deliveries arriving, just EU countries not being able to buy any on the world market. Also with the air defense broken down, increased range won't matter so much when aircraft can operate forward with no danger and take out gun platforms. Russian counterbattery is an emphasis.

You find women in the census getting younger and younger over the years in each census for example despite being the same person. Supposedly France has a brigade to send. A brigade can hold a front of about 2 km in WWII. The fronts in Ukraine are hundreds of km long, and there is about as much front that is not covered by many troops.
What will this French unit do when the Russians just pass it right by?
