Top Story

The FTC has ordered Razer - a computer and mouse manufacturer - to refund all customers of the Razer Zephyr and pay a $100,000 fine. (The Verge)

The Razer Zephyr - for those who do not move in the idiot community - was an RGB N95 mask for the COVID-phobic who really wanted to show off their mental issues.

Except it wasn't N95. As far as I can tell, it wasn't anything.

I'm against the refunds on the simple principle that anyone dumb enough to buy one of these things deserves to be punished.

The fine can stay though.

Co-working space company WeWork - once valued at $40 trillion or some other equally ridiculous number - is planning to emerge from Chapter 11 bankruptcy after raising fresh capital and creating a plan to pay off some part of its $4 billion in debt. (Business Insider)

Though certainly not all of it.

Adam Neumann, former WeWork CEO and the guy who landed it in bankruptcy with $4 billion in debt in the first place, offered to buy its remains for $650 million.

I remember when that thing rolled out. I peed myself laughing at it and then I discovered that there was actual tech writers out there reviewing it in all seriousness. Ah, the _95 COVID bullcrap.

Words mean things, and N95 masks have to pass very specific testing and approval. All of the cheap chinese masks that were marketed to people who wanted N95 masks because they kept hearing and ignorantly believed that N95 masks were effective against stopping a cold virus were K95 because K95 masks don't require testing and are not to be used in environments where N95 are required.

And it's how OSHA, who is in charge of all of this, could get away with saying that employers who are required to have fit testing and strict monitoring for N95 masks (because they're considered respirators) could simultaneously say "employers can require employees to wear K95 masks all day long for 16 hours straight with no testing or monitoring because they're K and not N. Yes it's the exact same material but no testing was involved to get the N rating so shut up"

If Razer had just just some other letter they'd have been completely fine.

At my last programming job, which I loved until I got laid off, there was a report that took two hours to run. It had been written by a fellow who had left by then, but whose name was a byword for "Oh, God, his work again." Turned out he was comparing records in two tables -- every single record in two 1000-record tables, so a million comparisons. Yet when they gave it to me to fix, I saw there were only about twenty records that would meet the conditions for the report. My improved report ran in a few minutes and I looked like a genius.

62 In yet another example of "Why do I continue to live here," the city geniuses are going to close the ramp I use in the afternoon to get on the bridge back home, and close off various lanes on the bridge itself off and on. This is probably going to last all summer (which prob. means until November). Why, you ask? To put "decorative lighting" on the bridge. Not at night, mind you, which would disrupt things much less, but in the daytime.

I have two other routes to the bridge, ones I've used in years gone by. But they stink even worse than the route involving the ramp to be closed.

One politically aligned group/side has government-approved Constitutional rights and can literally close down schools and burn businesses and murder people (it will be interesting to see if the Charlotte US Marshalls are still news today, won't it?).

The other political alignment better not even block a sidewalk.

213 Wolfus, my father has allergies, asthma, and COPD and needs cough medicine/decongestant on the regular.

We found a cough syrup that helps him out a lot.
It’s a brand named “Tukol” and they have several different formulations and flavors. The one my Dad takes is a cough + decongestant (same ingredients as Mucinex) and it has actual honey in the syrup. He uses it everyday and it seems to help him out.

We get it on Amazon but I’m sure it’s available at your local drug store or Walmart, etc.

I'll look for it, HTA, though I've been avoiding the decongestant formulations. Most of the ingredients look okay. My local stores are not listed on Walmart.com as having it; I'd have to had it shipped. But I'll ask at the pharmacy counter (assuming they're open).

I'd be raising this issue up with the same guy that found the XZ Backdoor.

A few 'innocuous' changes for how things are referenced? And that crazy 4KB line setting that just seems to be the same flag repeated over and over again? Especially that latter one - I can't see any valid reason for that to happen; at minimum, I would think they found a flaw in that "pkg-config" app such as a buffer overflow or other error if you keep passing that same flag in.

People forget the corollary to "Never attribute to malice which can be explained by stupidity", which is "Never rule out malice."
