Sefton: sefton at cutjibnewsletter.com | Wednesday Overnight Open Thread (4/3/24)Good luck with your position Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano. Some are pushing back. Like Cardinal Gerhard Müller, Archbishop Carlo Maria Vigano calls for the Catholic Church to preserve its credibility by excommunicating the belligerently blasphemous leftist creep in the White House. In response to Biden’s Easter Transgender Day of Visibility proclamation, Vigano defends the faith: The unprecedented and scandalous proclamation of March 31 as “Transgender Visibility Day” by self-styled U.S. President Joe Biden — who dares to declare himself a Catholic — constitutes a most serious offense to God and to millions of Catholics and Christians in America and around the world, before which it is impossible not to react with due firmness. … I ask my Brethren in the Episcopate and priests to recognize that Joe Biden has incurred latæ sententiæ excommunication, and as such must be expelled from the churches and not admitted to Communion. Vigano decries “a world awash in execrable perversions that cry out to Heaven for vengeance.” He gets what Sunday’s Democrat Easter blasphemy represents: If you are going to the Coachcella Festival, The ONT Is Always Looking Out For YouTM A billboard near the Coachella festival advertising free sexually transmitted disease testing should be removed, concert organizers said — but the group behind it says the message is staying put. “Catch more than vibes?” the billboard reads. Beneath it is a bubble listing the freestdcheck.org website and an photo of the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival, which is held at the Empire Polo Club in Indio. The ad was paid for by the Los Angeles-based AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a global nonprofit organization that provides HIV/AIDS medical care and other services. The ONT Triple-Dawg Dares the billboard sponsors to educate festival goers what certain infections look like........... ![]() The ends justify the means. Here is the poll behind that statement. ‘The Most Terrifying Poll Result I’ve Ever Seen’ Earlier this year, pollster Scott Rasmussen asked voters a simple question: “Would you rather have your candidate win by cheating or lose by playing fair?” The answers he got back were, as he put it in a Daily Signal podcast last week, “the most terrifying poll result I’ve ever seen.” Among all Americans, just 7% said they would want their candidate to win by cheating. As Rasmussen put it, he’d rather see that number lower, but that’s not bad. But more than a third of the elite 1% he surveyed would condone cheating. And among those who are “politically obsessed” – meaning that they talk about politics every day – that number shot up to 69%. Give the following video about 2 minutes before passing judgement. You have to fight for your right to work. And to keep your possessions. Love thy neighbor as yourself, Genius Award Winner. On Easter, the manager of a Walgreens store suffered a Bible belting “because she was being rude,” according to a customer who is now facing a felony battery charge. Police say Peter Owens, 35, went to the pharmacy Sunday evening to purchase a pair of headphones. While at the Clearwater, Florida business, Owens got into a “verbal altercation” with an employee over the headphones, according to a criminal complaint. When Nicole Merck, the 36-year-old store manager, approached Owens (seen at right) and asked him to leave the Walgreens, “Peter used the brown Bible in his hand and struck Nicole in the face one time before he exited the store.” ![]() Comments(Jump to bottom of comments)1

Earlier this year, pollster Scott Rasmussen asked voters a simple question: “Would you rather have your candidate win by cheating or lose by playing fair?”
Crappy question because it's ambiguous whether your opponent is cheating which changes the entire dynamic. - Not really. 'May the more prolific cheater win' is not a path to representative government, much less defense of God-given Rights. Ultimately, the system cannot work unless those who approve of cheating are expelled from it. Posted by: Methos at April 03, 2024 10:28 PM (Dnobf) 97

Macron is thinking of sending 1500 troops to Odessa? The current estimated strength of the Legion is 7000, all ranks included, so this is a major commitment for the Frogs. It goes without saying that it's a stupid move on Macron's part but the Russians shouldn't dismiss La Légion étrangère in terms of the threat they pose.
France is sending in the very people that they recruited from around the world to serve under impossible conditions in the dirtiest forms of warfare imaginable, men who've been steeped in a culture where dying for the Legion is a noble and even preferable fate. Most of them are veterans of other military services, many with previous combat experience, and there are few actual Frenchmen in the Legion, apart from a handful of the officers. (It is true, by the way, that serving out your term in the Legion is a ticket to French citizenship, but they no longer accept fugitives, and efforts to get around that are generally unsuccessful). Picture, if you will. A Priest. Sleeves rolled up, collar hanging by one button, and a sheen of sweat upon his face, reddened by exertion. Before him, a simple, humble man. Tied to a chair, torso, waist and ankles, his hands lashed together behind the back of the chair. A solitary, old fashioned, incandescent light shines down, from under it's flatly coned shade, concentrating the heat and dazzling in it's unblinking glare. Caption, Priest saying: "You're gonna Confess, sooner or later. All night if need be, I don't care. I've sweated better men, I've broken stronger men. And I'm gonna break YOU. So, c'mon, whadday say. The new way is to redirect the old exe to the new browser which won't play. I'm using FF and it's OK. I like that one can adjust the background color and the font and size. It's a real bonus to knock the glare. Posted by: Braenyard at April 04, 2024 01:01 AM (jnt+a) 338

Well, he reads the NYT so he thinks Trump is really suggesting that he's a Messiah figure'
I can see his point: Trump is a personification of a popular movement, which is of frustrated human beings; in theological terms that is not a Messiah but a False Messiah: people electing an image/person to personify their own desires, then 'worshiping' that image: False Messiah; Idolatry, technically. I would ask about the obvious hypocrisy of the NYT (I don't read them), if they did use the word 'Messiah', a religious term, since they're supposed to be the secular outfit that doesn't 'get religion'. So what business do they have using the term 'messiah/Messiah' at all. Doesn't that undermine their own supposed identity and factual authority? 'Messiah' is a Judeo-Christian based concept. Why are they referencing it to their allegedly agnostic customers? Posted by: LenNeal at April 04, 2024 01:41 AM (43xH1) 378
I mean, to insist that Trump (or whoever) is NOT a, or The, Messiah, is to logically assume that there is a Real Messiah. To use the term is to confirm the existence of such a thing.

Just saw this on one of the astronomy sites I follow all the time. NASA has been directed to create, along with international outfits, a "Coordinated Lunar Time" (LTC), which will be the equivalent of UTC for the Moon. This is will be an independent time standard for the Moon and the nearby lunar space. I don't think there will be an astronomical definitions involved, this will be a pure atomic time, for atomic clocks running on the Moon. If you're gonna be doing a bunch of stuff on the Moon and in orbit around it, you need clocks well synchronized to a local standard. Well, Fen, let me think why a man won't go to the doctor.
1) Loss of agency. Giving up control over bodily autonomy, decision making, and giving it up to a bunch of probably women. 2) Fear of finding something REALLY serious, that you're dying and you'd rather not know. Denial, basically. 3) Fear of not being able to care for one's loved ones if one turns out to be 'really sick', agency again. Uuugh it reaches a point in any given project where all the research has been done and the project is 2/3-4/5 finished, and all your (by which I mean MY) research is spread across 4 platforms , 3 devices, two or three phones, and a bunch of spiral binders. Now, I have to organize my sources and explain where it all came from.

Oh! AOP is gone to bed. One of my projects absolutely S***ED B***LS, it was a Balkan engineering thesis, from a major hydro-power station, on how high-voltage current flows through loose fill surrounding substations. It's by far the worst project I've ever done, it was filled with jargon, formulae, etc. and I did it basically as a favor, the author had been insisting on this principle for decades, it was his 'Life's Work', he was hugely offended in our correspondence when he felt I wasn't taking him seriously. I told him, I wasn't there to confirm his f***ing thesis I was there to make it literary. Which I did and after 20+ years of effort, he got it published and it's creating a bit of a 'stir' in his engineering field.

The electrical engineering thesis, theory, whatever, has to do with power transmission loss through variegated substrates depending on composition of backfill in support pylons.
This he demonstrated through a kind-of 'back-door', which I kind of respect: safety in personnel walking on the substrate: the risk of deadly electrocution of service persons due to electrical 'bleed', or whatever I forget the term. It had to do with AC/DC current and how it doesn't act like a simple 'lightning strike', a current-to-ground Electrical impulse but rather a kind of reciprocal that kills people when it's not 'supposed' to. The whole thing was a PIA and I thought it was about safety but it's actually a rather revolutionary rethinking of how electricity travels through the Earth. Hahaha, LenNeal... it's not really that bad.
Just that "the kids" had a major argument last week, and both decided to mention it to me. I chuckled to myself. Sis is hopelessly libtarded. Probably because her husband is also. Then, coupled with the fact that they live in NW Washington State, they have no choice (or face cancellation) but to speak anything besides the Leftard Phrases of Compliance. She is, otherwise, quite intelligent. I can't understand it. Bro is Christian Conservative, through and through. I am totally aligned with his political views. But! I do not discuss politics with sis, unless she 'starts it' (and boy oh boy, has she learned to *not* start it with me!) I return the favor to her-- by not jamming her about political crap. Bro needs to learn that she will not be reasoned out of views that she never reasoned herself into. Posted by: JQ at April 04, 2024 02:56 AM (njWTi) 423
Using "earth return", current flowing through the actual dirt, which it can be done, it can be quite dangerous. For AC 60Hz systems (and 50Hz), it has been done, but it can be dangerous. For AC at those frequencies, inductance in the ground tends to dominate, and the return current path tends to be a relatively narrow channel near the surface which follows the single hot wire above fairly closely. If that wire say zig zags around, the return channel below will zig zag right along with it. For High voltage DC transmission, it works much better -- the current spreads out, but, for high currents, the problem is the "convergence zone" near the electrodes. The voltage drop across a few feet of ground can get high enough to be a shock hazard. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at April 04, 2024 02:59 AM (w6EFb) 424

Local distribution of AC using earth return has been done, especially in remote rural areas. AOP himself, may have such a system where's at. Anyway, when doing that, you've got to be careful. Under some conditions, with phone lines and other conductors running close by, I remember reading how the power currents would tend to get all over the grounds for the foreign wiring. publius, Rascally Mr. Miley' That's what I worked on, yes, 'Earth Return', and it was for a senior engineer at The Iron Gates Dam on the Danube. Posted by: LenNeal at April 04, 2024 03:04 AM (43xH1) 427
If I recall it had to do less with projected possibilities and more with already-observed occurrences and effects where workers had been, you know, killed.
Posted by: LenNeal at April 04, 2024 03:06 AM (43xH1) 428
I think some of the HVDC transmission lines actually use earth return. Well, one I remember is "bi-polar", basically + and - hots, and a center tapped neutral which is grounded. The system can go into monopolar operation at half voltage if it has to, and does use earth return. I'll get to searching around for that. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley (w6EFb) at April 04, 2024 03:10 AM (w6EFb) 429
Yes, that is exactly what I worked on. Sent the author to a symposium in Switzerland. I took his original work, which seemed authentic (MATH!), and jazzed it up to sell it.
I got feedback it wasn't some theoretical idea but rather a problem-solving issue, where field workers at The Iron Gates were getting killed and nobody knew why. Since it was non-Western (Socialist/Communist) for much of the duration of the author's work, his theories were either suppressed or not accepted in The West as unverifiable. Posted by: publius, Rascally Mr. Miley' I took his thesis, deleted all the diagrams and formulae, wrote it as a kind of chatty 'short story' ignoring varied meanings of words between engineering terms and literary, and sent it back to him. He had a near-aneurysm, a fit. A FIT. Haha! Then I took his shit and linked all his theoretical dryness with literary persuasion, sold it, and he still can't figure out how I did it and neither can his brother, who set me up with this 'job'. Posted by: LenNeal at April 04, 2024 03:15 AM (43xH1) 432
Yeah, there's the references:
'Safety Conditions In the Vicinity Of Manholes Of Substation Transmissions' 'Expressions for the earth resistance of the human feet in safety studies of earthing systems' Etc. It had to do with observed electrical stuff around the Iron Gates Dam that weren't explained by the usual formulae. That paper took weeks, what a PIA. Walgreens staffers being rude? Oh, so it's not only where I live. In the case above, the charge might not be justified, but at the 24-hour W. closest to me, the employees need more than just a Bible across the chops. Little Dagny La Siberienne is visiting Miss Linda for a couple of days so she (Dagny, I mean) can try out this new litter L. got with one of her frequent coupons. Crystal something or other. No doubt Dagny will return horribly spoiled. In the meantime, Stirling the big black cat seems a bit more affectionate to me. Hey, I'm all he's got.
