Wednesday Morning Rant

Motivations

With the ongoing disaster at the southern border and US immigration policy more generally, one question comes up more than any other: why? Why does the government want this state of affairs with all of its tremendously destructive downsides? "Why" is a big question. Like all big questions, it will generate tremendous numbers of answers from all corners of all sides.

But there is no one "why." There are many "whys" and while most or all of them align to the same final answer of "MOAR INFLUX," the "whys" themselves differ wildly. Some of the motivations are independent of or contradictory to each-other, but here are what I think are some of the major motivations underlying the constant drive toward an ever more open border.

The most straightforward motivation is simple hatred. Hatred for America specifically and the West generally is strong among the elite and especially the academic elite. They are indifferent to outcomes because the elite that makes these policies don't face the consequences of the policies and despise those who do bear the consequences. There are also the dupes who think this is the "right thing" to do, but they're blind slaves of the hatred crew. For the haters, all the rapes, murders, drugs, and cultural erosion that come from an open border are not costs to be managed but benefits to be pursued. Gotta defeat that White Supremacy and Christofascism somehow! Hatred is a powerful motivator, and there are many in government who have pathological hatred for this country and her people.

Another major motivation is mercenary. These guys are the Chamber of Commerce types who see nothing but upside through the importation of a low-skill (or low-price, depending on mechanism) labor pool. The most recent headline example of this is Tyson Foods planning to hire tens of thousands of new "migrants" for the more miserable jobs in their processing plants. The CoC types in the government are happy to enable this, and to make sure businesses face no consequences for hiring illegals. This is the point of the "asylum" dodge: to provide pseudo-legal cover for hiring illegals. The H-1B disaster is the higher-skilled side of the same coin. Bring in cheaper people with few options and displace citizens for fun and profit. Downsides? What downsides? Their expenses went down and their dividend yield went up. No downsides here!

There's also the game of simple electoral power. Whether the illegals get to vote or not - and the power players in government are doing everything they can to encourage non-citizen voting - they still get counted in the census and apportionment takes them into account. Masses are power, even if they don't or can't vote. Making sure that Colorado gains representatives and that Mississippi does not is a win/win for the Party. This probably motivates some of the open-borders crowd, but I'd bet that this is a secondary motivation.

Another is based on a serious and long-term problem that is only meaningful to the handful of people - likely very powerful people, but not many of them - who know math. The motivation is a simple number: 1.78. That is the US fertility rate this year, and it's likely to go down rapidly over the next decade as the Zoomers and Alphas inherit their cultural ashes. Fertility rate can be hard to visualize, so how big a deal is 1.78? Out of 100 people, they will have about 89 children, 80 grandchildren and just 71 great-grandchildren (with rounding) - and that assumes that 1.78 doesn't get any worse. The smart people in policy positions who know math see doom in this. Masses are power, but inter-generational masses keep the wheels of state and economy turning. Some see importation to overcome the deficit as the most effective approach to solving this gigantic problem.

Nobody knows a sure way to improve the fertility rate and experiments in culture, law, housing, education, economy, etc. are all too expensive or politically untenable. It would also take decades to play out, and that's too long. Yet they have to do something, because nobody knows how to manage a declining population and they can't wait around to see if whatever Japan - a country that is notably not pursuing importation - does is going to work. Just import more people, shore up the numbers and damn the consequences. Even if the new people are chronically unproductive, even if the whole entitlements system crashes, they'll have the numbers. We'll all be much poorer and weaker, but they will have their masses to keep things humming along. That's the gamble, and they're happily making it.

These are just some of the manifold motivations and some of them contradict each other. The electoral masses types and math-aware demographic types want to retain power, while the academic hatred types want to see it destroyed and the CoC-type mercenaries don't care either way so long as the ROI is good. All of the various motivations, however, lead their adherents to the same answer: keep the border open.

29 Joe Biden told a joke at the Gridiron Club a couple of days ago. It went like this:

Our big plan to cancel student debt doesn't apply to everyone. Just yesterday, a defeated-looking man came up to me and said, "I'm being crushed by debt. I'm completely wiped out." I said, "Sorry, Donald, I can't help you." (Laughter and applause)

The White House is coordinating all the lawfare against Trump, of course, including the absurd New York "fraud" case.

If we win, I have a small request.

I want to see the Biden family utterly ruined financially - their houses lost, their fancy cars repossessed, their bank accounts drained, while having them still facing enormous legal bills from a multitude of legal proceedings against them.

It is good game theory ("tit for tat"), and would show that if you try to turn the United States into Venezuela, there are personal consequences for that.

Originally the 5th Circuit paused the administrative stay issued by the District Court. Biden appealed and the USSC said that they weren't going to second guess the 5th Circuit and rejected the Biden appeal.

The 5th Circuit then reversed themselves and issued an administrative stay. Now Texas can appeal, but the USSC is going to give them the same answer that they gave Biden.

62 Oh and another point, just bringing in more low skill potential workers lowers wages - simple supply and demand.

If there are say 1K potential workers in an area and 1K jobs the salaries will be much higher then 10K potential workers and still only 1K jobs.

It isn't a static situation true, but an aggregate it is pretty obvious increasing the supply of labor will reduce its cost.

But in my opinion, these motivations listed are all the motivations of the lieutenants and foot soldiers (useful idiots and the ones who think they're in the 'power circle' or can be) of this Leftist / Marxist movement that wants America as we know it destroyed. The overall 'why' is the evil billionaire WEF masters want rule over all of us because they believe only they can save the world from overpopulation and/or the idiocy of those lesser than them, and the 'freedom and liberty for all' premise of our laws and Constitution along with the recent historical power of our nation and people is the biggest obstacle to that goal (not to mention the 'free market' premise that risks their losing their fortunes, or being overcome by others they might not be able to control). So any means to break that down is a good thing, even if some of those means contradict each other. So isn't this the 'why' that correlates to all these other 'whys', including the ones that contradict each other? Isn't this evil billionaire WEF class the root of the poisonous anti-American tree?

70 Imagine high school with true home economics classes and classes teaching girls how to be feminine and pretty. Classes for boys on how to be tough, strong, wise and how to handle a gun or work with your hands.

In the late 80s we still had home ec and shop class in high school (this was extremely rural Illinois). Home ec was useful for boys too since it covered balancing a checkbook and stuff in addition to how to cook and all that.

But the real motivation is mercenary, as Joe points out: too many existing voters just won't go for what they want to do, so new voters are being brought in.

82 Multimillion Dollar Fund Manager Ditches Tyson Foods, Saying Meat Giant Sacking US Workers To Hire 42,000 Asylum Seekers Is The ‘Woke Liberal Takeover Of America’

A conservative fund manager has pulled investments from Tyson Foods, saying the meat and poultry giant has alienated its consumers by laying off Americans workers and hiring 42,000 asylum seekers.

Bill Flaig, CEO and co-founder of the $79 million American Conservative Values Fund (ACVF), told DailyMail.com that he has divested from Tyson and won’t buy any more stock in the company.

Angry consumers are boycotting Tyson over revelations that the company is shuttering plants and laying off workers while hiring tens of thousands of asylum seekers — and even hiring lawyers for its new recruits.

They do make below minimum wage.

The way it works is maybe 30-50% of workers are off the books. Some are literally off the books in the sense they don't technically work there. Others are only technically on the books. Both groups are basically paid in cash, pay no taxes, and the company pays no payroll taxes or other expenses.

It's a simple tradeoff: how much less would any of us work for if we didn't hand over 40+ percent of our incomes in taxes??

The companies I work for were in businesses like this. The employees were all illegal and wanted to work off the books for cash. There's an entire ghost worker economy out there that's fueled by illegal immigration and lack of enforcement on employers who cheat the system.

What massively reduces the birth rate is educating women, and having their labor be worth something on the open market.

That makes having kids much much more expensive.

185 172 In Poland, a college degreed woman who marries and stays at home to birth and raise kids gets 1/2 her expected salary in the field from the age of 1st child birth to the last child to 18.

And Poland's fertility rate is still just 1.5. Russia's been trying birth incentives too, with equal lack of results.

Hard to overcome the dominant culture.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at March 20, 2024 11:46 AM (YAtuc)

1.5 is better than almost all of Europe. And think about all the societal issues Poland doesn't have that we do.

Poland has no real faith-based culture...at all...at this point, so to get to 1.5 is kinda a miracle.

I mean, I could have suggested we bring back faith, especially faith that encourages big families (Catholics, Mormons, Jews, etc), but that's kinda impossible to do as a governmental level plan...

It's both. The cultural component is larger, but there is a place for government in that battle - namely, rolling back some of the changes over the past 60 years. Ending no-fault divorce and default female custody would go a long way, as would winding down welfare programs for single mothers.

Posted by: Joe Mannix (Not a cop!) at March 20, 2024 11:50 AM (HnUIn)

190 160 Sadly, the only real way to solve that problem is to work on getting young women to understand that becoming mothers is the single greatest thing they could do for the world.

Israel is one of the few developed countries with a fertility rate well above replacement (2.9).

Sort of a FU to history and the rest of the world.
Posted by: The ARC of History! at March 20, 2024 11:43 AM (YAtuc)
______

I wonder what the breakdown of the 2.9 is. I'll bet a lot of it is very religious or Hassidic Jews who tend to have huge families. I suspect the more secular Israelis are under 2.0 and that the overall number is trending down.

Israel might be in better shape in this regard than the rest of the civilized western world, but I don't think she can resist the long-term downward trend already affecting the west. Nor can she keep up with the litters of degenerate broods of cockroaches the Pali women dump out every 10 months.

Something that is not talked about enough is the huge problem of single women - usually very young, who have a child/children just to get a paycheck from FedGov. They call it a paycheck but it is welfare paid for by the rest of us. This is quite a big thing in black communities and I saw this first hand when I lived in SoCal. You get more of what you incentivize and the resulting horrible problems that arise from children being raised in a single parent home. I hope that LBJ occupies a special place in hell.

Because we do "vote for it" every time we enable a politician who we firmly believe has our own interests at heart when in fact they do not. The person you swear up and down is "on your side" is never "on your side" once they get out of the limo in the capitol city.

There is no plausible way to fix government when government controls the mechanisms of (peaceful) change and is in not remotely ready to consider something different other than the path we're on.

Which was prime time for stay-at-home moms, large families, with a single wage earner. But as the saying goes, 'Then something happened."

An interesting chart I came across recently was about housing prices going back about 70 years. Adjusted for inflation the homes back in the 50's and 60's would be around $100,000 in todays dollars.

Which was prime time for stay-at-home moms, large families, with a single wage earner. But as the saying goes, 'Then something happened."

Was it feminism which caused the crazy increase in housing prices?
Posted by: Divide by Zero at March 20, 2024 12:02 PM (RKVpM)
_______

At least two things:

1. Houses got much bigger, more complicated, and packed with more tech and amenities. That plus lots of new regulations and building codes calling for use of more expensive materials and building processes.

2. A lot of the cheaper home prices of the 50s and 60s and into the 70s was suburban sprawl. Land in sparsely developed suburbs was dirt cheap. That's not true any more. Just the opposite.

Posted by: Elric Blade at March 20, 2024 12:07 PM (iFTx/)

250 True, but it would have zero effect if everyone who heard it said "Nah, that would be so out of character for Trump." But we can't because it isn't. He has made some horrendous personnel choices in the past and AFAIK the only one he's actually reputed is Pence. Fauci maybe but only weakly.
Posted by: Oddbob

The problem that Trump faced is that the Uniparty is real. Trump believed that the GOP officeholders actually said what they meant because he did so he appointed people that did a good job for him in the election (Rinsed Pubis or some such), some noted business execs like Tillerman, and retired military generals.

What he did not realize is that all of those sobs are uniparty because that is how they get things done in their world--is by treachery, cowardice, and evil deeds all the while proclaiming their virtue.

Naivete is an issue but his staffing at the end of his presidency was far better when he simply used the Succession Act after firing the sobs.

Fauci was not one of his appointments btw but you have to blame ole Ronnie Reagan for that one as Fauci was civil service and killed a bunch of people trying to make an AIDS vaccine which makes GHWB, Clinton, GWB, Obama

Yes it was part of it. Basically a bunch of those new working women went into make work fields in HR and government producing no, or negative, value for society.

But also there is the problem of the value those women had generated before feminism told them to go into the corporate world. Yes a lot of housework type stuff became easier with the invention of various appliances but the value in taking care of and educating their children was flat out lost.

282 If you reward a certain behavior, you get more, not less of it.
Imagine that those, not only, having children, but achieving children, would be able to avoid federal and State taxes?
First, to benefit, they would have to be earners. Then, assuming you start with income tax, you move to other types of tax that will require wealth building behaviors... This could be applied to all, but only those raising achieving children would benefit. Could be an incentive for families to get out of transgenerational welfare...
