Recently picked up a Smithsonian magazine to read I found in some lobby. Incredible how far it has fallen. Practically every single piece was 100% in line with leftist agenda. Some overtly, others more subtly. Polar bears and climate change, covid , life of some African women scientist, Navajo doctors, J6 commentary on shocking insurrection, more global warming, cultural impact of statues (and why some are bad!) and on and on and on....
As bad as it was, it has also been dumbed down. I felt like it used to be a challenging read requiring some concentration and at least a high school degree if not some college. Now it seems like it is for 10th grade reading level, maybe lower. Light reading while eating your cereal. Must make it easy to absorb all the narrative. I love this kind of scientific-related art. The talent to show elements of nature so realistically and clearly is astonishing. The botanical paintings of the 18th and 19th centuries are remarkable and so is this one. They rival, for me, the gorgeous still life works of the Low Country artists. For all her fame with her children's books, Beatrix Potter's nature drawings were used in scientific publications.
The colors, with the feel of looking through water, detail and composition of this painting are fascinating. I could spend hours looking at this. Thanks, CBD. I really enjoyed today's selection. Either the franchise becomes a Mission Impossible clone with a tech team handling a lot of the job or you wind up with some weak woke shit because everyone's all offended by the nationality/race/religion/sexuality of the villains. My four top Bond movies, based on a model I constructed which was based on who played Bond:
From Russia With Love The Spy Who Loved Me The Living Daylights Goldeneye Casino Royale Yes, I omitted Lazenby. Because he is that bad. Connery is obviously the GOAT. But I actually place Moore in second. I was brought up on those two guys. My father was the least imaginative person I have ever known, with my mother being a close second. BUT my father introduced me to Bond movies. I was all in from an early age. So I will always have a soft spot for Moore. Brosnan for #3. Dalton #4. Craig #5. Posted by: old chick ------- CJ Roberts is a scumbag and noted in his refusal to stay Navarro's sentence until appeals have happened. Essentially Navarro has to go to prison before his appeals on whether the conversations that Navarro had internally with other Trump administration figures is protected by executive privilege. Same with the Jan 6. If Trump wins, I would allow all of them to sue and then require the DOJ to settle the cases with large monetary awards and a permanent settlement going forward that forbids this type of lawfare permanently. Same stupid shit in NY state, Trump has to pay now, can appeal later. Posted by: whig at March 19, 2024 10:57 AM (tb8RV) 506
