AoSHQ Weekly Prayer List Please submit any prayer requests to me, “Annie’s Stew” at apaslo atsign hotmail dot com. Prayer requests are generally removed after four weeks unless we receive an update. Prayer Requests: 1/12 – Washington Nearsider’s last day of employment has come and gone. He plans to withdraw his TSP and retirement contributions to buy time and then evaluate whether or not to list his house. His ex-wife, learning of his change in employment, is filing to contest his sole custody of their two children, and his lawyer has explained that without a job, he is likely to lose custody. Please pray that he can find employment sufficient to keep his house and his kids before losing both.
2/3 Update -Washington Nearsider has been and remains sincerely grateful for the prayers and well-wises of the Horde. He has withdrawn his TSP and has enough money left to get through late March – early April. He will accrue debt with the custody hearings which begin 3/6. He has 3 interviews scheduled for the week of 2/5. He is also attempting to expand his custom model building services to bring in additional income by leaning on 20 years of experience building models of all kinds: building planes, tanks, ships, etc. Please contact him through the comments or email Annie’s Stew, and she can send you his direct contact information. He sends his thanks for his daily dose of sanity in an otherwise crazy world, and for the constant stream of wonderful Fani Willis euphemisms. 1/20 – Cybersmythe asked for prayers for his sweetie’s son, who is in rehab.
2/3 Update – The son is out of rehab. They appreciate the prayers and hope for continued recovery. 1/20 – Jewells said she has spent the last 2 days recovering from the latest chemo treatment. Praise God, it has gone much better. She still had pain, but was able to manage it with oxy, but it makes her very weak.
2/15 – Jewells has an update that the PET scan showed great results, and her MRI showed no cancer! 1/27 – Emmie asked for prayers for Mr. Bassman, for his upcoming knee replacement surgery. Also, they are having patient-sitters come in when Emmie has to go out, and there’s a certain amount of anxiety related to both of them. Prayers that it all goes well would be good.
2/3 Update – Thank you for the prayers! The surgery went well and recovery is coming along nicely. His patient-sitters were a big help. The family and church friends have been a huge encouragement and a great resource. 1/27 – Tonypete asked for prayers of thanksgiving for his 14 year old granddaughter. She has expressed a strong interest in being baptized. Her parents are disinterested, so Mimi is picking up the slack here. Hopefully this step leads to many others on her journey to a positive life. 1/27 – Mindful Webworker welcomes prayers – daughter Sugar Plum Fairly miscarried this week. It was the second time in recent years. She and the wonderful son-in-law are hurt, but taking it in stride. 1/27 – RetSgtRN gave an update on her son-in-law, Kenny. His bone marrow biopsy last week showed 100% donor marrow, which means the cancer is gone. She sent a thank you for the many prayers sent his way. This is such a blessing for him, her daughter, and her two grandsons. 1/27 BrianinTn asked for prayers and support for Rich (in St. Petersburg), who is suffering from the advanced stages of Parkinson’s disease, and is to the point where he can no longer work, and even has trouble standing or sitting up for any length of time. Please give your prayers and support to someone who is without a doubt the nicest guy BrianinTn has even known. 1/27 – Dash my lace wings! humbly asked for prayers for her worsening lower back pain. She got checked, and an X-ray showed her spine is all curvy – not scoliosis bad, but definitely not straight. She appreciates prayers that they can get it straightened out and pain-free in short order. 2/3 – Teresa in Fort Worth would appreciate prayers for Leigh, the director of a school for students of all ages with Down Syndrome. Leigh has been diagnosed with Soft Tissue Sarcoma. The tumor was removed this week, and they think they got all of it. Leigh would appreciate the prayers.
2/17 Update – The mass in Leigh’s shoulder is benign, and she does NOT have soft tissue sarcoma. She thanks everyone for their prayers on her behalf. 2/3 – Reforger asked for prayers for his Coworker, “D”, a widowed mom of 4 who is having a rough time with daughter #1. The daughter is skipping school, was caught 3 times and now police and social workers are involved. “D” is beside herself. She is having to miss work (and pay) to do probation stuff and keep appointments with “therapists”.
2/10 Update – Reforger reports that Coworker “D” and her daughter are doing better. He also relayed a funny story that ended up with him being able to bless “D” with another $200! 2/3 – Naughty Pine asked for prayers for Rachelle, a para-pro who retired from working in Detroit and has to continue working elsewhere. She discovered she was put into the wrong payscale and HR has given her the run-around, despite clear proof. She’s afraid of making waves, but Naughty Pine convinced her that does no one any good, to continue with this error. Naughty Pine would also appreciate prayers for her Arizona-bound neighbors. They have a long trip ahead, with moving van, trailers, etc. Also, please pray she gets good new neighbors. 2/3 – I’m Gumby Damn It requested prayers for an emotional hardship. He trained a two-man crew to install bath remodeling products for his little company, and they went around him and were hired by his vendor. 2/3 – Polliwog the ‘Ette would appreciate prayers for Inspector’s back pain. It’s been bad enough that he’s had to admit it’s a problem. It also keeps him from sleeping or being able to do even mild exercise, both of which are important for managing his blood pressure. They’d appreciate prayers for complete healing, but also wisdom on how to prevent future problems.
2/10 Update – As soon as she asked for prayers, God brought to mind something that helped Inspector the last time, but they’d forgotten to try. His back is substantially better, and he’s become convinced that it’s the sitting, not the exercise, that causes problems, and that is also a victory. 2/3 – Brother Tim is currently homeless. He spent the last 3 nights at a hotel, but he’s short on cash now. He needs a new job and a place to stay. He’s looking for another roommate situation, but they are few and far between. He is trying to make new connections, too. He’s not looking for funds, but advice and prayers are appreciated. 2/6 – 496 requested prayers for his wife and daughter as they begin a formal process of reconciliation. Please pray for warm hearts and cool heads at a minimum. He would also like prayers for his boss, “S.T.”. About a year ago his wife’s breast cancer returned. Initial treatment looked successful, but it is back now, and in her brain. 2/3 – Fenelon Spoke asked for “P”, who needs prayers for his return to faith as a Christian. Also, prayers for Pam, who needs continued healing after a pacemaker insertion, are appreciated. 2/8 – It’s me, Donna, asked for prayers after some bad lab tests. It turns out it’s not as bad as thought and easily treated. Thanks so much for the prayers. 2/10 – Sock Monkey asked for prayers for his BIL, who woke up 2/9 with no feeling in his legs and unable to walk. After a lengthy visit to the ER, a growth was discovered on his spine. Doctors were only able to remove part of it during an 8.5 hour surgery on 2/10. The mass is probably cancerous, but they don’t know what type. His prognosis for walking again is not high. The family would appreciate prayers for healing, strength, and comfort. 2/10 - Mindful webworker asked for prayers for a dear, long-time family friend, Levi, who is in a desperate, dangerous state of distress and is an immediate threat to himself and others. Please send up prayers that he can swiftly be freed from the demons that confuse his mind and torture his soul, and that his family would be protected, and that he would return to Jesus. 2/10 – Martini Farmer asked for prayers for his son, who lost his job this past week due to DEI. 2/10 – Berserker-Dragonheads Division is in the hospital. He had a cardiac cath, then was sent straight in for bypass surgery.
2/11 Update – He had 2 arteries 100% blocked, 1 that was 95%, and another that was 80%. So he had a quad. He says the hospital and staff are great. 2/17 – Muldoon humbly asks for prayers for his daughter Michele, for healing. She has suffered for years from severe debilitating migraines that have resulted in her becoming largely withdrawn from society. 2/20 – Lady in Black requested prayers for her stepmother, Bonnie. She was diagnosed with breast cancer 9 years ago. About 2 years ago, it came bak and she had a mastectomy. Now she has a lump showing in her lung and is getting ready to have a biopsy. She is depressed and very worried. Any prayers for her would be greatly appreciated. 2/21 – TecumsehTea sends many thanks for the prayers for Pastor Joe. He had his post-surgical followup today. Stitches are out, no radiation or other treatments are needed. In 3 months he will have another MRI. 2/21 – Prayers for the family and friends who mourn the loss of Gnubreed. I've yet to find any black tea here in the states that
equals the quality you find in England.
Another weird tea thing I've noticed is that it's almost impossible to find good quality Orange Pekoe Loose Leaf Tea anymore, which is probably my favorite tea. And was a big fave among tea drinking Americans in general. Wha'hoppen?
No worries though, I'm sure Our Betters will soon release a new, more sustainable - Beyond Orange Pekoe Tea made from chemically mangled crickets and ladybugs.

Buying a specialty tool like a fork or a ball joint separator that you are only going to realistically use once is sub-optimal.

I decided to skip the car washing this morning. It's cool and clear out there, but I still needed to clean me and shave as well. Miss Linda will be here in about twenty so we can stop at a local Fresh Market for her to use a coupon for something; then out to my barber, then the library. Need to stock up on fresh reading material as opposed to re-reading stuff.
If we go out to eat tonight, it's gonna be $$$. Unless it's Chik-Fil-A; then just $$. Or we can hit the grocery for something we can prepare at home.

Now that I'm retired I drink coffee for the taste, not to stay awake for 18 to 20 hour work days. (Yeah, I don't miss the office.) But I drink more tea these days, again for the flavor. And I enjoy the little bit of time and care it takes to brew the tea. And I've added some herbal tea to the mix: hibiscus tea and Celestial Seasonings peach tea, which actually tastes like peaches. Both are great hot or as iced tea.
I notice the coffee thread went up an hour earlier than usual. I hope it's because Mis. Hum. is going fishing.

It was badly needed.
Today I tackle the fuel pump in my Tacoma.
More accurately I have to rip the back of the truck off to replace a $100 part. As they say... the cheaper the part the harder it is to put in.
Stupid in tank fuel pumps.

Not quite yet, but I've already got some waiting. I figure when springtime hits I'll swap them out. I've taken care of all the fluids and thermostat and it's been purring right along. I figure this is the perfect type of trip for it comfort-wise, and the added benefit is no one will be too upset if something gets accidentally spilled.

Thanks. We've got our glasses and have used a cereal box before to watch the progression up to totality. The neatest part is when it occurs all the little pinholes between leaves in the trees become viewers and you can see the eclipse on the ground. You've got to think to look around, though, because it's so mesmerizing.
Well, there's lots of neat parts so I shouldn't say "the neatest." The sudden silence is off-putting, as is when the bats come out because clearly it's night time.
We were fortunate to be able to see the one in SC a few years ago. I get why rich people will chase them from airport to airport or around the world now. It's like nothing else.

All the usual cures failed, but we finally found a pain management specialist who also used traditional Chinese medicine, including acupuncture. She approached the headaches with alternating treatments, and basically wore them down by attrition. She also did the botox injections (I'm sure you heard of them). They finally went away and rarely come back.
And of course we resorted to frequent prayer, including the Anointing of the Sick.

Tickets were reasonable (until they add all the fees) but for me, totally worth it. Mom still wanted more after the encore, but I thought the set list was just right (and I'm the one who had to drive an hour home late at night at 29+++)

I was at the DMV the other day. In the parking lot was a beat to crap Chevy Cruz. No front clip (bumper, lights, grill, etc.) busted driver's side mirror, broken passenger side front window, damaged right side fenders and doors and broken tail lights. 4 different wheels and tires. A handmade, cardboard license plate.
It had a current registration decal on the cardboard.

Last night, was moving stuff in the Garage and a 10lb round weight (for weightlifting) slid off a box, bounced off my left knee and dropped on my foot across the base of all my toes. I felt a bit like Wyle E. Coyote without the cocktail umbrella.
Knee fine (not even bruised). I was wearing shoes, and didn't really hurt for a few hours, but big toe is hurting a little now, is tender in a few places, and I want to make sure no cracked bones in it. Doesn't FEEL broken...

Hie thee to an O'Reilly's or Autozone store. Most of them offer "free" rentals on specialty tools made for this job. You want a tie rod separator and a ball joint separator. Having said that, there is an old trick you can do. Understand that in both cases you are dealing with a tapered stud locked into a tapered hole in the forging that is the steering knuckle. Screw the nut back on loosely, so it is flush with the end of the stud, to protect the thread. Place a backup block, like the head of a sledge hammer, on one side of the eye, and held tight against it. Swat the eye HARD on the opposite side. The force of the hammer blows must act 90 degrees to the axis of the stud. You know how you shoot a watermelon seed? Like that.

I don't think the campus police are calling the shots. They work for the administration and even if they were the most zealous justice-thirsty guys in the world, being told to drop the case is a hard thing to get around. I'm sure they've been told there won't be a prosecution, so what's the point?

I wasn't aware of pharmacy beetles. Another reason Mason jars and other sealed containers are so useful. We have a lot of 5 gallon food safe containers that are air tight and water proof. They were cheaper than replacing the food, rice and flour and similar, that got infested a few years ago. No problem since.

Wasn't that long ago, a base Honda Fit was about $16,000. I had mine for 13 years and only once did it leave me on the side of the road, with a wheel coming off because it had been tightened too hard at the dealer (happened 500 yards from said dealer, and they towed & fixed at no charge). I wish I still had my Fit because they're not making them anymore.
You can put an alpaca in a Fit. Should you ever wish to. I never did, but I could stuff my bicycle in without removing the front wheel. I'm convinced the Fit has more cargo space than my Rene.

Yeah, by the mid '90's they had mostly gotten electronic engine controls to work right, and be reliable, so you get good driveability and fuel economy. Now they are getting into gimmicky shit like 10 speed transmissions. My '08 Suburban has a six speed, and that is 2 more than it really needs. But it has been trouble free, so far.

People who have tried to buy a car in real life know that you will spend around $30K for a stripper Civic or Kia. Same as I said initially. Want something nicer or need something slightly larger? $35 - 45K

That's why I'm skeptical about there being a vote, let alone it being honest. Too many people will go to prison. The decentralized nature of our elections made it difficult to steal one on the national level, but internet vote counting solved that. The judicial system - which inserted itself into every aspect of our lives without any legal basis, now claims that if you file suit before an election, there's no harm, and if you wait after it, the case is moot and there is no remedy.
So here we are. I focus my energy on prayer, taking care of my family and reaching out to friends and people in my parish and community. It is very calming. For Lent this year I'm going to a daily Mass in addition to the Sunday one, which is a nice way to stay engaged.
I find regulating my life by events in the parish bulletin is far superior to watching the news.

And this is one of those people who "trusted the science" and "trusted the doctors" who didn't have their best interests at heart.
And if Trump does get on the ballot and we actually have an election we'll hear 24/7 screeching about how he rushed this through and it's all his fault and that he killed grandma and grandpa. Everyday I pray for accountability in this life for Fauci and the Pharma companies and the CDC, WHO, etc, but I'm not holding my breath.
