An egg dance is a traditional Easter game in which eggs are laid on the ground or floor and the goal is to dance among them, damaging as few as possible. The egg was a symbol of the rebirth of the earth in Pagan celebrations of spring, and was adopted by early Christians as a symbol of the rebirth of man at Easter.

Then the great egg dance, the special dance of the season, began. A hundred eggs were scattered over a level space covered with sand, and a young couple, taking hands, began the dance. If they finished without breaking an egg they were betrothed, and not even an obdurate parent could oppose the marriage.
At the price of eggs now a $100k dowry would be cheaper. Posted by: rhennigantx at February 09, 2024 09:34 AM (ENQN6) 23

The Egg Dance - Pieter Aertsen
This is so much fun! Faux Serious Comment: Mr. Aertsen's Egg Dance reminds us that there is a universal human continuity that transcends centuries and technological change that always resolves with this key notion - we, given half a chance, are debaucherous drunks. I remember when pouncing was cool. When SNL did it every Saturday night...and still do. Gerry Ford fell and Chevy Chase made a spectacle out of it every Saturday night(!) Now the NYT seems to think that Republicans pouncing on the Hur Report *IS* the story. It's not what she did, it's what he said about what she did! Why haven't I heard about this artist before? He is wonderful with his use of brilliant, realistic still life (something I always enjoy), the use of color, the way each figure is an individual, the style of landscapes in the background (hello, Mona Lisa), and the way he shows everyday life in the area. They are visually interesting and educational, not to mention being able to see the influence he had on later artists.
Thanks for this one, CBD. It's a great painting to end the week. Posted by: JTB at February 09, 2024 09:47 AM (zudum) 128

It's not big deal because Jesus was really Yeshua (or Yeshue) which is the word we translate into Joshua in the OT. So, "Jesus" does not have as distinct name as we artificially construct.
- Which is part of what we're watching slowly slip away in Western Civilization. It's tied to the removal of the 10 Commandments, prayer in school, etc. Americans knew that name existed and that people were named that, but they still weren't comfortable using it casually. Heck, Hells Angels and other dregs of society generally had enough sense than to curse around little kids. Not because they were worried about the parents, but because they knew those were kids. Now you can go to school functions and hear moms and dads using f-word left and right to their 5th grader. Returning to the 10 Commandments, even non-believers maintained a sense of "I don't think this is true but it gives crucial guardrails for how society should exist." As whig says, it's a jenga game to our elites. That block was removed and they're giggling at the tower wobbling. There was a minor recurring character on the trail drive on Rawhide. Everyone called him "Hay-Soos," and his name was even spelled that way in the credits. In 1958 to 1966 TV, I guess, calling an everyday person "Jesus" would have been a no-no.
