Is your Apple II or Commodore PET just not delivering the joy it once did? Enter the 65F02. (e-basteln)

This is a 100MHz drop-in replacement for the original 1MHz chip.

Of course that wouldn't do much good with the original 1MHz RAM still in place, so it has 64k of 100MHz RAM on board as well.

It automatically maps out the memory and I/O addresses of your computer so that devices like floppy drives and video still work, while everything else runs at full speed.

With the rate at which SSD prices were dropping last year, hard drives appeared to be doomed. But those price cuts appear to have stalled for now, and predictions are that SSD prices will actually increase this year.
AMD's new Ryzen 8600G and 8700G will be here in a few days. (WCCFTech)

The 8600G offers 6 CPU cores and 8 graphics cores for $229; the 8700G offer 8 CPU cores and 12 graphics cores for $329. Each is around 30% faster than its 5000-series predecessor on multi-threaded tests.

There's also an 8500G model at $179, but that cuts back to 4 graphics cores and about half the PCIe lanes, so it's a lot less interesting.

Disclaimer: I wonder if the 65F02 could be updated to work in a Commander X16?

Yeah, the latest models are really just for enterprise use. Buy a 2022 model and you get basically the same performance for half the price per GB.

17 Evening and morning, wakeful ones! 'Tis a breezy 53 F. here, good workout weather. I don't feel as though I had enough sleep, partly thanks to big black Stirling being friendly, but I can catch a nap this p.m.

The ceiling leak in the bathroom returned yesterday afternoon. The apartment "management" haven't dropped off my new lease as they promised, either. I'll have to remind 'em. There is talk of a new buyer for the property, and the possibility of the place being demolished is now remote, but nothing is moving. And the only people who show up at the tenants' rights meetings are loud, crotchety oldsters who want to complain and yap about their dialysis or the pins in their legs, instead of planning action. Jeez.

Ahh, back when computers were actually fun.

WRT to the SSDs, I have pulled the trigger on a number of cheapo sub 200 dollar ones from NewEgg, they are stripped as a raid 0 and rsynced to a 16tb mechanical drive.

It's pretty much the perfect setup for my Plex/media server.

If you want to rip the dvds you can get a dvd to mkv tool like makemkv and for the cds you could use any number of tools, something like handbrake will do the job.

It's not a 'calamitous' collapse in reputation when you fucking deserve it. His idiocy and ideology are directly responsible for issues in the United States - and across Europe - that in many cases we still haven't fixed, and are probably quite frankly past being able to fix at this point.

Sounds like what I've seen referred to as 'shotcrete'. Some swimming pool folks in this area of PA use it. First they build a reinforcing form, then they shoot the 'crete' into it. Then later some dude from below the border puts down the finishing plaster.

As far as 'expect to prove', that isn't the point. These movements give people a sense of belonging and fellowship, which modern society has in many cases stripped away. Without family connections, without religious community, with a 'diverse' life and work that you have no commonality with anyone else in... What happens? We're a social species. People want to belong and feel valued. This gives them that. It's insane, but it fills their *actual* need.

I was really hoping that Atari under the Tramiel regime would do a 65816 update of the platform, as Apple did with the IIGS. They thought about it, I was told by a Tramiel, but updating the chip set to make it worthwhile was far more cost than they could manage.
