11 This is what the 'net says about the temptation of St Thomas Aquinas

St. Thomas Aquinas's mother, a countess, tried to dissuade him from entering the Dominican Order because she hoped St. Thomas would become a prominent political figure. His brothers locked him up in a tower for a whole year and tempted him with a prostitute, whom he struck and chased out with a fiery brand.

Looking at that I thought he was tempted to write some other huge tome.

14 Interesting grouping. But what is going on here? Are angels, or at least the kneeling one, tempting Thomas A.?

And who is the startled-looking matronly lady framed in the door to the balcony?

16 Beautiful colors on the angel's robes, but it does make me wonder if they're, you know, a little light in the sandals. Also, the wings are kind of dark and ominous, as opposed the usual light and airy.

20 From Wiki-

It portrays the episode of the life of Saint Thomas Aquinas when, as a novice, he resisted the temptation represented by a prostitute, who is visible in the background door. The saint is held by an angel, while another is preparing to dress him with a white ribbon, representing chastity.

21 This is wonderful.

22 ...tempted him with a prostitute, whom he struck and chased out with a fiery brand.

It loses some of its significance when you realize that's what he called his dick.

23 If that's the "temptation" fleeing in the background, I don't see where it would have been much of a struggle.

Of course, if you're going along in your day-to-day life, you know, shaving, having breakfast, worrying how you'll pay Herod the Great his taxes this year, and something that looks human to the ninth decimal place except for gigantic eagle wings *appears* in your room? You'd be afraid anyway.

77 This is a painting where I find the details are more appealing than the complete image. I like the realism of the stone and wood work, the folds of the clothing and the skin tones of the three figures in front. The almost cartoonish figure in the background is distracting. No idea if that was on purpose. She looks like she was added as an afterthought.

That's the warning issued by a network of pro-life pregnancy centers fighting an allegedly harassing subpoena from New Jersey AG Matthew Platkin, who seeks a wide range of documents going back 10 years, after a federal court ruled Jan. 12 it didn't have jurisdiction to hear their constitutional challenge.

First Choice Women's Resource Centers filed an emergency motion for an injunction pending appeal Tuesday to the 3rd U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals, accusing U.S. District Judge Michael Shipp of knowingly creating "a Catch-22 scenario that would likely bar any federal challenges to state administrative subpoenas."

They said Shipp's dismissal ignores the 3rd Circuit's ruling two years ago, in a similar subpoena challenge by Smith & Wesson, that reinstated the gun manufacturer's lawsuit against Platkin because federal courts should give up jurisdiction only when "orders uniquely in furtherance of the state courts’ judicial function" are involved.

I saw research the other day about male vs female reaction times and physical prowess, and it was crazy wrongthink level stuff. 18 year old females in their prime are X% from 18 year old males (it's a large number and not flattering, but I don't remember because I didn't care).

What was neat was that 45 year old males are 10% off of 18 year old males. Without physical harm or disability, which happens frequently because men do hard stuff, men don't lose too many steps from 18-45.

You know, one Republican senator who lived through 2007 AND 2016 would know that open borders is particularly unpopular with the Republican base.

One Republican senator is either a fucking dullard or really dishonest, but to be honest, these things are not mutually exclusive.

266 McConnell is a liar, but you knew that. At last weeks senate luncheon he was getting roasted by most of the members. He is pushing (along with his coterie of "leadership" and about 10-12 members) an immigration amnesty bill that contains the Democrats wish list. Democrats want to use that as a cudgel against House leadership during the election season to say that Republicans are delaying action at the border. Why would the republican "leader" do that, vote with a majority of Democrats and his personal attachment of 10-12 RINOS to give Democrats that political ammo?

The former president and other allies of Biden's have advised him "to quit the 2024 race to save America and the Democratic Party," according to a report from RadarOnline.

"Insiders snitched that tensions between the two presidents recently exploded after irate Obama rushed to a secret meeting and confronted Biden about his fading chances to fend off surging Republican candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming November election," explains the report.

Taylor Swift is driving voter registration, and conservatives are terrified....Swift is likely to have gotten more than 30,000 people to sign up, many of whom will be eligible to vote for the very first time this November...

...Fox News’ second-rate Tucker Carlson clone Jesse Watters implied that Swift’s decision to once again promote voting this past September was some kind psy-op campaign...

...most of the people Swift is inspiring to get involved in our political process are exactly the type of young Americans who conservatives loath.

302 I'd like to see the logic behind UPS estimated delivery times. I have two parcels arriving today, finally. Both parcels have the same local origin (same sort) and are on the same truck (only one truck comes through my part of town per day unless you have the expensive critical delivery service for AM delivery).

UPS tells me one of the packages will arrive between 2:00 and 5:30. They say the other one will arrive between 1:30 and 4:30.
They are on the same truck.

I have long suspected that the UPS delivery window system has pseudo-random variables as a part of it, but I am leaning even harder in that direction after seeing this. The delivery estimates should be the same because all of the input conditions are identical. Yet, they're not the same, which means something is causing the variance and it's probably just injection of a pseudo-random parameter to make it look better.

Kamala is Obama's chosen successor. That's why the NYT gave her that glowing profile in 2019.

I seriously doubt Obama's changed his mind. He probably still thinks Kamala is some kind of brilliant legal scholar and mind. Does Obama feel like the kind of guy who would know Kamala, back her, and then watch her flail in public and change his opinion about her?

To admit that she's terrible and stupid is to admit that his own privately arrived at conclusions that he spent time and money supporting publicly would be wrong.

Two things.
1. I'll repeat what I said yesterday: I hope Lake releases it anyway. Sunlight is the best disinfectant. Make the details of the backroom deals known. Let the public see how the sausage is made.

2. Mediocre stands out in today's top 40. The Weeknd had a huge hit right as covid started with a very obvious homage to "Take On Me", including the same drums and synths. I heard a top 10 song the other day that sounds pretty much like it's straight from one of John Lennon's solo records, so between that and Lizzo's 70s funk song from last year I guess the 70s really are coming back.

Most national insurance companies have announced they are leaving California because of New laws and regs that the State has put in place. They are doing this by not writing any new policies and canceling old policies as they come up for renewal. The only option for homeowners is to obtain coverage with smaller, local provider, which will be much more expensive with worse coverage and generally very poor customer service.
Say Thank You to the State of California for that.

"Insiders snitched that tensions between the two presidents recently exploded after irate Obama rushed to a secret meeting and confronted Biden about his fading chances to fend off surging Republican candidate Donald Trump in the upcoming November election," explains the report.

In a recent appearance before Big Bethel AME Church in Atlanta, Willis barely addressed the substance of the allegations — more on those shortly — but chose instead to frame them largely as a racially motivated attack. The judge overseeing the case recently directed Willis to respond to the allegations in a court filing by Feb. 2, with a hearing scheduled on the matter for Feb. 15. Meanwhile, many of Willis’ once-very-vocal legal and political supporters appear to be going easy on her — largely staying quiet, keeping their heads down as the silence grows increasingly awkward.

You are not the first to speculate in that direction. I think it's unlikely, but by no means outside the realm of possibility.

Whether the IC sent a stooge to entrap an enemy politician so she could be snipped out in the future or the Party sent a stooge to buy out an enemy politician so she could be snipped out in the present are not all that dissimilar. The former is a bit worse than the latter, but it's only a matter of degrees. Either way, the "democratic process" is manipulated and controlled by the power centers.

The only thing that would be surprise me would be to learn that it's all a lie and was entirely a setup in which both Lake and DeWit structured the entire affair to discredit the national GOP and help to promote a loss of control by the Party.

I watched her movie. She knows that she's way past her "sell by" date, working on borrowed time. She did a very ballsy thing in pulling her music from Spotify until they paid her big. Although of course the movie was edited to show her in the best possible light, she seems to have a couple of songwriting collaborators/producers she's worked with for a long time who are good partners.
