Good afternoon and welcome to the almost world famous Ace of Spades Pet Thread. Thanks for stopping by. Kick back and enjoy the world of animals.

Would you like a treat?

Let's relax a little with the animals and leave the world of politics and current events outside today.

Meet The PetMorons

hazelll.jpg

Hi! This beauty is our new addition Hazel. She's a yummy chocolate kitty with green eyes. We haven't had a cat in 20 years, so it's been fun. Thanks for all the kitties on the pet thread, it put the idea in my head!! Happy New Year everyone.

J.

What a sweet thing! She looks happy in her special kitty holder.

Lab Adore Longtime Lurker sent in the following:

For years I have been a longtime lurker on your Pet Thread website.

Finally, I cannot help myself to expose our final family member before
my spouse and I no longer can out-survive anymore pets/family members.

Our entire marriage included Labradors. Our final member Ellie (Queen
Elizabeth) has been showcased in our Christmas Cards to family and close
friends. It's been somewhat a hobby of mine to improve it with each year.

This is a picture of my latest effort.

The enclosure caption was,

ellie to santa.png

I encourage other pet owners to give this a try.
It is personally gratifying.

Yours truly, Ellie.

Great idea, Lab Adore Longtime Lurker! And Ellie, you sweetie.

Mike from Cold Fury relates a story about losing this little guy, Baby Bun-Bun, who slipped out the door:

boyy on bedd.jpg

Fortunately, the power of prayer and the smell of wet food seem to have brought him back to his siblings.

3-KittensOnBed.jpg

They are all adorable. Thrilled that they are back together again.

On the left is our guest Rose and on the right is Winnie. Rose was returned from her first home and we fostered her until she went to her new forever home. She comes back every so often to be babysat.

The two are pointing out that it is time for breakfast.

What great friends!

We got an update on last week's post about Memphis, who was expected to leave her family soon:

For your information, Memphis crossed the Rainbow Bridge last Sunday, about a day after we sent you her picture.

We miss her terribly.

Thank you again for posting.

Sorry to hear that you have lost her, even though we knew it was expected. Keep in touch with us.

7 So, update: The feline oncologist says there's a slim chance that maybe it might not be cancer but some other kind of growth on Dewey's tongue. She has him on a regimen of antibiotics and steroids. He's improved, but the healthier he gets, the harder it gets to catch him and give him the antibiotics and steroids.

10 Armor would be ceremonial, I'd think. In actual combat it would obscure vision, sight over the horse's head, annoy the shit out of the horse while it is already spooked by the screamin and the blood and the dying.

16 Willowed
OT sort of. I checked out the blurb about the space heater ad on our home page, the Musk heater. For absolutely hilarious unscientific bullshit we have:
"The materials we use in Ultra Air Heater are the best conductors in the world. Normally you have to force electricity into heat, but since our proprietary conductors have the electrons(electricity) moving so fast on an aSamic level, as soon as they hit the heating plates they instantly turn to heat since they have carried more energy with them."
1. Best conductors are Gold, Copper. So this is a goldmine pr just copper?
2. '.... force electricity into heat.' Not really, it's the other way around, you normally get unwanted heat from an electric current. Ask AMD or INTEL.
3. See, these electrons have backpacks so they can carry more energy than what Physics tells us they have, you know, like the Wetbacks/mules bringing in drugs.

22 Beautiful Pet Morons today! Sorry to hear about Memphis.

I have been able to get to the lake, which has frozen over. Jake was do happy to get to go again. Last two days have been in the low teens with wind in the 20s. We don't stay long.

Fanny is still enjoying the warmest room in the house. Mr Trouble is grateful to get to come in. He's had some cabin fever and I've had to encourage him to go out. He slipped back in twice today without me seeing him!

Still finding a dead bird or two out there. Filling up the bird feeders twice a day. Trouble likes to go and lay on the food pile under the feeders. I think it improves his hunting odds.

25 One of the outside kitties that adopted us, Rose, has been inside now for several days. She's a very sweet cat. This morning I found her curled up in the bathroom sink. She looks old and I suspect that she may have been some elderly person's kitty that either got abandoned or dumped when the human went to a home or passed away. Could also have gotten locked out from the house when that happened and nobody went back for the cat.
The Calico, which may be pregnant, was last seen Wednesday. On Thursday we set the trap but only caught Rose (she was out briefly).
No sign of a couple of older kittens/cats that have visited once or twice. We do have a very accessible crawl space which is out of the wind and warmer. Mr Gray has been around. If we catch him he'll be neutered, then in bad weather he can come inside if he wants.

31 Last night, 3-4 the four house khets decided to sleep with us in the bed. Dewey, medicated before bedtime, hid in the closet and pouted.

The outside cat that divides his time between the neighbor's yard and ours is taking advantage of the khet shelter I built in the backyard shed. I call him Yardley. He used to be very stand offish, but now he will brush against me on his way to the food I put out for him.

Park Kitteh (PK) is still uncaught. I feed her nightly. She trusts me enough that I can pet her, but she bolts if other people come near. She must have some form of shelter because she's surviving the single digit weather. Still need to trap her and get her spayed but will have to be patient.

37 i want to tell Mike from Cold Fury that cats LOVE to do that - get outside in terrible conditions and then disappear for a day (sometimes two) just to make you worry.

wish I could post a pic i took of ours yesterday, he insisted on going out in ridiculously cold weather (indoor/outdoor cat) but then caught a mouse desperately scrounging in some spilled birdseed. He had the best time; carried the mouse to the porch and spent 20 minutes tossing it high in the air over his head and then jumping and pouncing. You could tell he was disappointed towards the end when the mouse stopped moving, he would walk up to it, stare at it and then bat it around a few times as if to say "Please move again! we were having so much fun!!!"

39 37 I briefly had a kitten soon after I came to Northern Virginia. One day I came home to find him playing with a dead blue-tailed skink in the bathtub.

Another time, he came running out of the bathroom with a full roll of toilet paper in his mouth.

I put a stop to both situations quickly.

I've been missing my sunrise walks with Daisy. Looking forward to warmer mornings ahead.

49 Lab Adore: It's hard giving up on dogs. The XO and I had dogs for almost fifty years. But when the last one died, we had to accept that there would be no more. We wanted to get another GSD puppy, but that would have been a fifteen year commitment, and we knew neither of us would live that long. Also, we were planning to sell the house with the very spacious fenced in yard. GSDs are not apartment dogs. You have my deepest sympathy.

56 I saw a couple cat videos recently that were a bit disturbing. There are people that are trying to get cats to communicate in English. Now, I know what you're thinking. They are mimicking sounds and have no concept of meaning. And, I'd agree with you until one popped up with a cat sitting outside a bathroom door (owner inside)...and the cat was very clearly saying "Let me in."

This seems ludicrous to me, even as I'm typing it...which may be why I find the whole premise disturbing. I don't want my cat ratting me out.
