85 I don't normally use the term 'fun' for a painting but this qualifies. The man in the old style clothing, his seat with the cushion is different from a chair of the period, his posture as he examines some trifle all speak to a mild ridicule of an eccentric. (It has a feel of a humorous Norman Rockwell image.) But White's talent is obvious in the way he captures the realistic details, and 'old', somewhat faded colors, and the way he lays out the scene. Very enjoyable.

113 I see there is a story that Vincent Gallo is in trouble...

He's making a movie about a serial killer and in casting calls he told the women applying to play the victims to feel as if they might be abused/raped/murdered etc...because the real serial killer the movie is based on really did this stuff to his victims.

So...the women that didn't get the roles reported him to SAG of course.

And the best part? The story notes they are "young" women in their 30s.

Now...if you are an actress, and you've lived into your 30s, and you apply to play the victim in a serial killer movie you are shocked by this?!?

Gallo's an odd duck.

When he premiered The Brown Bunny at some festival (Cannes? not looking it up), Roger Ebert hated it. Loathed it. Gallo responded by calling him fat.

Ebert replied, "I may not always be fat, but you will always have directed The Brown Bunny."

Then Gallo re-edited it a bit and Ebert gave the re-edit 3/4 stars.

190 Yesterday, "Biden" posted on X: ...tomorrow, I'll head to the Allentown area in Pennsylvania to talk to small business owners about how Main Street is benefitting from the economy we're building.

He's really going to go stump and campaign? And focus on the economy? Each time is a chance for us to see him collapse on screen.

His X feed is focused on the economy...either he's dumb (or insulated) enough to believe it's a strength, or he knows it's a weakness he needs to shore up.

Today’s data shows that we ended 2023 with inflation down by nearly two thirds from its peak and core inflation at its lowest level since May 2021.

And I’ll continue acting to lower the price of medicine and energy, and eliminate junk fees to bring down costs even further.

We learned that 2021, 2022, and 2023 were the best years for new business applications in American history.

Small businesses – not mega corporations – account for 40 percent of the gross domestic product of America. That’s why supporting small business is at the heart of my economic plan. And with 16 million business applications and counting, it's working.

I suspect Abbott waited to make this move until it was an election year, and Biden and Co. were suddenly concerned with "doing something" about immigration. The Feds of course have the power to fight and win in this, but they will not be able to keep it under the radar, and it will do them incredible political damage.

It's also notable that Abbott is doing this under a Governor's Emergency Powers, which the Democrats were loving (and the courts ignoring) all through the Covid scare.

Their political leaders are not. They just want the illegals to stay in Texas and not come and actually take advantage of the Sanctuary policies they all voted for and implemented.

The people have been against massive immigration for decades, and the political class has acted like that desire has no effect on their ability to get re-elected because it largely hasn't.

I've said that Democrats won't actually start changing the tenor of their approach to the border until a prominent Democrat in a safe enclave (speaker in a legislature, a governor, a senator) loses an election on explicitly immigration-based grounds. That hasn't happened yet. I don't expect the party to change its tune on immigration until then, the people be damned.

I assume you're not referring to the factory he built in Germany, as it would be impacted by shipping delays if it were in the US as well. Unfortunately, we're complex enough now, we can't reasonably expect a steps and manufacturing (let alone raw material extraction and refinement) can be conducted in the US.

That's why, as much as I hate the US being the world police and intervening everywhere...global stability is critical, and only the US has the means and (sort of) will to do it...aside from China.

As a National Holiday, 'Presidents Day' does not exist. It is still 'George Washington's Birthday' (so far), even if has been 'moved' to an near Monday.

Every year when 'Presidents Day' rolls around, I assertively point this out to anyone who mentions 'Presidents Day'. It has produced some blank stares, especially from government employees.

I commented on TMR that at one time the US had an office dedicated to maritime security. Trump had it staffed by a Coast Guard officer with actual knowledge of commercial shipping and the types of security required. Whether that was onboard security teams, naval patrols or whatever.

*biden dissolved that office on day one of his admin and it's never been reconstituted. That, and the fact that nobody in the shit show of his administration knows a fucking thing about maritime security... including the DEI obsessed Navy.

351 Given that the Houthis are "rebels", fighting against what is presumably recognized as a legitimate Yemeni government, could some disinterested party simply slip the Yemenis a shipload of nerve gas shells with the serial numbers filed off, and let the Yemenis solve the problem once and for all?

The Yemeni government is legit... in the same way all vicious, rotted, Muzzie governments are legit.

They wouldn't be in power, if the Saudis, using U.S. supplied weapons, weren't propping them up.

Once again, it must be said, when looking around the globe for the bad guys, it's usually going to be easiest to find them, if you just look toward D.C.

The first girl I ever dated in HS, a slim little brunette, wore them -- outside of school hours. She'd have been sent home if she tried wearing them in class. We had a real dress code then. No jeans or T-shirts or shorts. One girl I knew got sent home because of wearing culottes, you know, women's split skirts.
