I don't normally use the term 'fun' for a painting but this qualifies. The man in the old style clothing, his seat with the cushion is different from a chair of the period, his posture as he examines some trifle all speak to a mild ridicule of an eccentric. (It has a feel of a humorous Norman Rockwell image.) But White's talent is obvious in the way he captures the realistic details, and 'old', somewhat faded colors, and the way he lays out the scene. Very enjoyable.

I see there is a story that Vincent Gallo is in trouble...
He's making a movie about a serial killer and in casting calls he told the women applying to play the victims to feel as if they might be abused/raped/murdered etc...because the real serial killer the movie is based on really did this stuff to his victims. So...the women that didn't get the roles reported him to SAG of course. And the best part? The story notes they are "young" women in their 30s. Now...if you are an actress, and you've lived into your 30s, and you apply to play the victim in a serial killer movie you are shocked by this?!? Gallo responded by calling him fat. Ebert replied, "I may not always be fat, but you will always have directed The Brown Bunny." Then Gallo re-edited it a bit and Ebert gave the re-edit 3/4 stars. Interesting painting. A lot of complimentary colors with the cap, pants and the back wall, although the wall is obscured. Even the book on the desk. Lots of detail and the subject studying the coin sort of draws you in.

Yesterday, "Biden" posted on X: ...tomorrow, I'll head to the Allentown area in Pennsylvania to talk to small business owners about how Main Street is benefitting from the economy we're building.
He's really going to go stump and campaign? And focus on the economy? Each time is a chance for us to see him collapse on screen. His X feed is focused on the economy...either he's dumb (or insulated) enough to believe it's a strength, or he knows it's a weakness he needs to shore up. Today’s data shows that we ended 2023 with inflation down by nearly two thirds from its peak and core inflation at its lowest level since May 2021. And I’ll continue acting to lower the price of medicine and energy, and eliminate junk fees to bring down costs even further. We learned that 2021, 2022, and 2023 were the best years for new business applications in American history. The Yemeni government is legit... in the same way all vicious, rotted, Muzzie governments are legit.
They wouldn't be in power, if the Saudis, using U.S. supplied weapons, weren't propping them up. Once again, it must be said, when looking around the globe for the bad guys, it's usually going to be easiest to find them, if you just look toward D.C. I first became aware of hot pants watching that one episode of the Partridge Family where Shirley Jones and Susan Dey were wearing them.
Posted by: Bulgaroctonus at January 12, 2024 *** The first girl I ever dated in HS, a slim little brunette, wore them -- outside of school hours. She'd have been sent home if she tried wearing them in class. We had a real dress code then. No jeans or T-shirts or shorts. One girl I knew got sent home because of wearing culottes, you know, women's split skirts. Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at January 12, 2024 11:01 AM (J2vNu) 368
