You are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hidden. Nor do they light a lamp and put it under a basket, but on a lampstand, and it gives light to all who are in the house. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Happy New Year (I hope) everybody!
What's not to like? The relatively stark lines of the structures against the foreground landscape and that glorious sky really stands out. The colors are soft, easy to look at. The hint of wispy clouds gives the feel of a light breeze on a summer day. It all makes you want to say "Ahhh!" This is strictly personal. I regard lighthouses as symbols of safety, steadfastness in the way they weather the storms and forces of the sea, and beacons of hope when we are lost or confused. They are appropriate for the start of a new year. Posted by: JTB at January 01, 2024 09:46 AM (7EjX1) 45

Yeah, there are pinup calendars, and I might go with one of those. But I really like the old Elvgren pinup art rather than photos. Maybe I'll have to order online as usual.

Hey. That's my neighbor Bill's house!
(Seriously, that lighthouse is 286 yards from my house). Back in 2016, a deranged Dartmouth Varsity soccer player parked a stolen van in front of his house and lit it on fire all because "her boyfriend" told her to do it. Poor girl was on a lot of drugs. People confuse this lighthouse for the Portland Headlight which is about 5 miles down the road - resulting in a lot of nasty tourists demanding to know where the parking lots are. The west lighthouse is even cooler as it was converted in WW2 to a U-boat lookout tower so it looks like a pillbox on top of a lighthouse. Inside the walls are the calibration bearings for the spotting equipment. Posted by: Defenestratus at January 01, 2024 10:22 AM (PkY0m) 157

As I stated above, I gave it my best shot to extend charity to current Pope. But the timing of Strickland's dismissal could not have been a coincidence. They didn't want him in a position of ecclesial authority when they rolled out the gay blessing meshugas. No doubt he'd have instructed the priests in his diocese against offering the blessings. OK so they got rid of one troublesome bishop. What are they going to do about the Africans, the Hungarians, the Poles,(bishops) the British priests, an entire religious order of priests refuses to give the blessings... This hierarchy really did not read the room too good. Posted by: kallisto at January 01, 2024 10:39 AM (tPZd3) 192

Trump's predecessor – who no doubt still runs the show behind the scenes

If the CO is drunk, there is a Second Mate who can navigate and conn the ship. In my experience, a drunk skipper at sea is unheard of. Ashore - a very different story. Like one CO moving on the dance floor on his back to see up lady's dresses. - I'm willing to accept this, assuming God's plan is the collapse of the U.S. or moving the U.S. to the next stage of what it's supposed to be. Didn’t some memorial to St. George Floyd get whacked by lightning, too, a few years ago?

FWIW ... my father reproduced this in watercolor and the result hung in the family living room for 60+ years. He was a very odd individual. Put all his artistic skill/talent into a few watercolor pieces and then simply gave up. On the other hand, I ended up with a very personal relationship with this Hopper, almost like it's "mine."

Is this satire, or did a grown man really write this? Regardless, it captures the strange obsession Kinsinger and so many other have with convincing the rest of us what an entirely ICKY man Trump is. Such a bizarre obsession, like we've never had weird politicians before or since??? Posted by: Lizzy at January 01, 2024 10:56 AM (izj35) 218
