ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A large cargo ship with a fire in its hold is being kept 2 miles (3.22 kilometers) offshore of an Alaska port as a precaution while efforts are undertaken to extinguish the flames, the U.S. Coast Guard said Saturday. There were no injuries to the 19 crew members aboard the Genius Star XI, which was carrying a load of lithium-ion batteries across the Pacific Ocean, from Vietnam to San Diego, the guard’s Alaska district said in a release. There is a nice astronomical coincidence that happens right at midnight, the start of the new year, current epoch.
Sirius, Alpha Canis Majoris (the Alpha Big Dog) and brightest star in the sky, is almost exactly opposite the sun to within a couple of minutes of time anywhere on the planet.
Sirius "high noon" will occur at exactly local apparent solar midnight. So, when you see Sirius directly overhead, at its highest, the sun is directly under your feet.
Here that occurs at 12:33AM EST, which is just 2 minutes after true solar midnight.

I don't know what the exact implications are for official government records, but there's doubtless some conflict between the court and the gov. It would be resolved by someone backing down, or someone sending armed LEO s to ensure the pardon is the final word.

He got superb scripts from people like Richard Matheson (who *really* understood how to create tension in fiction or on film), Charles Beaumont, and Earl Hamner Jr. (later the creator of The Waltons). My great uncle Mike was a New Years baby. He threw a raging open house party to watch the Rose Bowl every year. The old people all brought old people food and plastic gallon jugs of booze. The bar was on the washer/dryer with a towel thrown over the top and a bowl of ice and all the booze and a bowl of olives and onions and limes.
He made it to 104. What a great guy.

'Tis. When I moved to Denver, I was astonished at how livable it was year-round. The summer was cool at night, the winter was usually sunny. If you were in the sun and there was no wind, which did happen, below freezing temps were rather bracing and pleasant.

Because Epstein had the physical evidence. That's why there were 2 incidents with him. The first was to force him to give up passwords, combos, whatever. Once it was verified that he had given up the real info, he could be safely killed. And that's what the second incident accomplished.
All that Maxwell can do is run her mouth, and that's easy to counter. Who will take her word as Gospel? She has any number of reasons to lie in this way and that.

First, the decision only related to the McCloskeys getting their firearms back, not to the convictions for which they were pardoned.
Bear in mind, the McCloskeys weren't exactly the Martin Luthers of the Second Amendment: they pled GUILTY.
A majority of the judges on the Missouri Court of Appeals for the Eastern District, who decided the case, were Republicans, appointed by very conservative MO GOP governors.
The McCloskeys can still appeal the decision (regarding forfeiture of their firearms) to the MO Supreme Court if they want to, which is REALLY, REALLY conservative.
I always thought the McCloskeys, liberal tort lawyers before they got famous, were kind of chickenzh*t imposters. Btw, the protesters were at the McCloskeys' house because they were looking for Mayor Lyda Crewson's house, but... they got the wrong address.
Instead of confronting them with firearms, just telling those idiots, "You got the wrong house!" might've resolved the problem. The protesters didn't know the McCloskeys from Adam.

Santa brought us an air fryer. Great! I can hardly wait to try it out.
Something simple, like French fries.
The first batch came out OK but I failed to preheat the thing, so a little soggy, still edible.
Tonight I preheated the unit, then added the potatoes, sprayed with oil and salted.
Within minutes it tripped my circuit breakers. Everything in the kitchen was without power.
It draws 1550 watts. This is testing the limits of my 1949 electrical standards, tho' upgraded to my 20 amp circuit board.
I dunno whether to send it back. I like what it does but it's possible my present wiring is inadequate.
A quick trip to the circuit board reset has everything back to normal but I can't expect the same outcome every time I use the thing.

She heard my going on about Sirius being directly overhead (well, transit, highest point in the sky) and wanted to see it. I had to carefully hold her so she could look up without falling.

There are memories I have that now exist only in my own mind. Everyone else is gone who experienced them with me.
This is something of which I have become increasingly aware, or things similar to it.
I posted a couple of photos from the late 60s and early 70s on social media this past year. In one case, I had written down the names of those in the photograph and the events in which they competed for junior high school track and field.
Folks were impressed by my recall. I said that, had I not written down the information back in the day, I'd not have known but five or six of those pictured, and not a thing about in which events they had competed.

Not so much for me and wifey this year... it's for my kids still here in the home. No, this year 2024, I now have officially retired my job "raising children" as my youngest boy "Ben" turned 18 yesterday. That makes 6 that I and Mrs. Nightwatch have now turned upon the world...raised up true and strong with Faith and a good sense of what this nation is/was all about and have hopefully taught them what being a good human is all about as they go out into their own life.

My niece was once on a tour of haunted houses in NOLA; she'll never do it again. All she remembers was at one house (where I think the owners did horrible experiments to their slaves) was one moment standing on one side of the street, the next on the grass in front of the house. HS Government class 29yrs ago we had a yearly 'symposium' where various types were asked to give a speal.
Local Big City former police chief was invited.*
He noted that most cops never, not once, draw down in their careers. He did three times. The one time I recall it he was 'downtown' and came across an obvious rape in progress. He said nothing and drew down. He was off a bit to the right and blew of the perps lower lip off.

When my dad broke his let, he wanted out of the hospital and was refusing to have his leg fixed. Being this was in Kalifornia, they would have declared him unable to make decisions for himself, appointed a medical guardian, and next thing, he's fixed up and on his way to a resthome drooling from Thorazine.
I told him, "You know how XXX wanted to have total control over you via Conservatorship and you proved you were competent in Court? Well, if you DON'T get your leg fixed, they'll appoint someone as your Medical Conservator and you'll end up like what XXX wanted to do to you".
He was quiet for a moment, then went ahead with his surgeries.

Hubby1 and I had 4 of his classmates with us *on the way there*
It was a blast! And we got there mid-afternoon and found some place ($$$$) to park. Huddled up and formulated Our Plan to meet up @ designated spot at (I don't remember) particular time, for trip back to Pensacola. 2 of the guys didn't make the meetup time, but we waited an extra hour. Still no-show.
We took off, got lost somehow, ended up in a fleabag hotel. Middle of the night, some a-hole(s) opened our room's door with a (likely stolen) key and we all bolted upright, yelling. LOL, would-be thieves/druggies or whatever took off... and we packed up quickly & hit the road for home right then. Ugh.
Somehow-- our 2 lost dudes hitch-hiked back, in time for muster. HAHAHA, good times!

One's breath?
It's a repeating 12-year cycle repeated five times in a 60-year cycle (if you include the 5 elements: earth, wind, water, fire, metal). So if you were born in 2000, 1988, 1976, 1964, 1952, 1940... you're a dragon. Now which type? well, I don't know it that well. And also, lunar new year moves relative to our calendar every year.

Okay, now I'm reading up on the Chinese luni-solar calendar system. New year begins on the date of the second new moon after the winter solstice. Unless it's an extra leap month added, which begins on the 3rd new moo -- still looking that up.
I was looking at some things about that, and said that can't be right, then realized I was think in full moons, not new moons....
Anyway, astronomical observation determines this, I see. It's not a calculated formula that will drift over time.

Personally, I don't think that it's unreasonable for America, who expect a lot and have extracted a lot from their allies, to support valuable friends with weapons, intelligence and relatively low-risk policing operations.
