Evening and morning, folken! I was away from the blog since this time yesterday, and I see Ace and others have posted a lot of good stuff that needs to be read and savored.
Miss Linda wanted to go to the big thrift store out in the 'burbs. I left her there for 90 minutes while I ran some errands, but still had to stand around for half an hour while she put back things she'd taken off the rack as "possible." The place gives me the f'in shudders. Foamy-haired, leather-skinned old women, sad-looking old men, immigrant/welfare cases and their sprogs galore, and the blubber on display would offend a baleen whale. Anyway, she found some stuff I bought her for a belated Xmas. Then we hit the big mall in town -- parking and traffic nightmare, but she found some 75%-off stuff at that Bath & Body Works joint. Why is every product there named for food? Posted by: Wolfus Aurelius, Dreaming of Elsewhere at December 28, 2023 06:16 AM (omVj0) 55

It's in Format, to 'Paragraph', then to the 'Indents and Spacing' tab, where it gives you the option of first line indent which can be done either before the document is created, or after, by selecting the text body and specifying a first line indent value. ??? We found a way to give away some of the 25 lbs or so ( I don't how much it really was, but it was a lot!) of boxes of chocolate that the kindly parents of the kids on spouse's bus gave to him. I brought some to church and people took some to give to people over the holidays. Also, son had to go water plants in the college greenhouse . The young people are on a rotation for this, but the ones who live closest by have to do it the most and the campus security has to let them in. Son took up a box of chocolates to thank security for letting them in every few days and just generally for looking after the campus and staff and kids. The security officer seemed pleased and surprised and we don't have to eat the chocolates. 😉

After record setting increases in murder in 2021 and 2022, for reasons that are a total mystery, but probably because of Trump, murder is down by a record amount this year. And you will never guess the reason:
The challenge faced by local law enforcement to bring down the country's homicide numbers for the second consecutive year following a record jump in 2020 and a sizable increase in 2021, was achieved this year with a major assist from the U.S. Justice Department and bipartisan gun-control legislation passed by Congress, officials said. Women shop for clothes like men watch TV. There is always something better on another channel.
I like to shop for clothes. The only problem is that the things I really like are either too expensive or don't fit. Posted by: Mary Poppins' Practically Perfect Piercing (aka Eloquent Depression) at December 28, 2023 07:12 AM (Q0kLU) 97

I went in to the eye center to ask about a pair of readers. They took my prescription, asked a few questions like did I want photochromic lenses, etc. The cost, including my Medicare discount, was over $900. I bought some online for $30. I've purchased clothes for my wife from Amazon for about ten years. Only one thing in all of those years did not fit. An inexpensive bathing suit was too small across the back. Everyone is afraid of buying clothes online. Maybe we're the exception in that everything fits. Posted by: Divide by Zero at December 28, 2023 07:23 AM (3qE2b) 110

Pro-Pali leftist whines about getting criticized. Ties herself in knots justifying cancelling subhuman Republicans. http://tinyurl.com/yst6bmhd Posted by: Hadrian the Seventh at December 28, 2023 06:48 AM (MoZTd) ---- I read about half of it but couldn't take any more illogical arguments. The horror of October 6 is not mentioned. That date does not appear anywhere in the essay. Apparently 20,000 Gazans have been killed but the source of that number is not given. (I have no sympathy). She goes on and on about 'private universities' and the fact that the 1st Amend. doesn't apply to them. But it has been said many times that if any federal money enters the coffers then that institution is beholden to the Government and thus to the Constitution's 1st Amendment. This applies to Interstates (drinking age, speed limits), schools (lunch money, money per pupil), colleges (federal grants, student loans), etc. So even so-called private institutions such as Harvard do take in federal money and fall foul of the 1st Amendment if they talk shit.
