25 Try not to laugh at the new(ish) Chicago mayor’s “grand plan” to reduce violence crime in America’s Murder Capital. In a bid to tamp down the rampant violent crime that has only accelerated since his election, Mayor Brandon Johnson proposes using the “full force of government” to solve the problem by…issuing reparations checks to descendants of slaves.

This from the guy who runs America’s largest open-air shooting gallery. In fact, the city of Chicago by itself typically accounts for nearly 4% of America’s homicides while comprising about .8% of the country’s population.

Johnson may be the dumbest mayor in American history.
During an interview with CNN, Johnson said that city funds must be diverted to reparation programs to solve crime.
"I’ve added a half a million dollars for restoration and reparations to address the cycle of violence, which looks like school closings, closing of mental health facilities, of which I’ve invested in."

Not a "pay phone" but a kitschy thing to look like one.

Thank God we did not migrate to that hell hole and stayed in the other hell hole.

201 I really never understood that trend.

"Shock the squares." There was never any more to it than that. Over time the squares became harder and harder to shock and that's pretty much how we got to where we are now.

205 TCM had a special on the AFI's Lifetime Achievement Award's 50th annie.
Very nostalgic, but also sort of sad, knowing what was in store for some of the folk in the audience, like Christopher Reeves, Tony Perkins, etc.

This year's awardee is Nicole Kidman. I like Ms. Kidman, but she's no Bette Davis or Barbara Stanwyck.
I guess we've run out of stars...

Traffic is sure light on the roads here. Buddy came over to haul away a dead jeep. I had it on a tow strap behind my Suburban. Pulled cautiously out until I could see traffic both ways, and was prepared for a long wait. Woo-Hoo! No traffic either way. I gunned it straight across the road, up over the curb, and into the vacant lot where buddy's enclosed car trailer was staged. Slicker than owl snot!

Taxes do weird things. So do credits.

Child tax credit for single moms - don't get married and don't work.
Telsa credit - shitloads of people buying EVs as second cars despiute the insumoutable flaws.

Don't remember the country, somewhere in the Med or EM, for a looong time property tax was based on street frontage so they have these house that are maybe 20 ft wide but 100+ ft deep.

According to nola.com, in 2012, after Saban won his third Alabama national championship, his non-profit, Nick’s Kids Foundation, formed a partnership with Habitat for Humanity. Together, 17 Habitat-built houses have become homes for needy families — one to commemorate every national championship Alabama has won stretching back to 1925.
