Life hack: You can get Japanese products sooner (often by months) and cheaper by simply ordering them from Amazon Japan.

The Pop Up Parade figures for Kiara and Ayame which I had on pre-order through Amazon US, with estimated shipping dates in March and February respectively, are in stock at Amazon Japan right now.

A marketing team within Cox Media Group claimed it had a tool it called Active Listening, which involved, not to put too fine a point on it, illegally spying on other companies' customers, with the tag line "It's true. Your devices are listening to you."

If it were actually true, the resulting lawsuits would burn the entire company to the ground. Fortunately it seems to be marketing, or in other words, a complete lie.

Regular desktop motherboards now support 256GB of RAM. (Tom's Hardware)

You can't get the necessary 64GB memory modules yet, but those are coming next year.

Which is not very far away.
The updates from Asus and ASRock for 256GB memory support also leaked details of AMD's upcoming Ryzen 8000G chips. (Notebook Check)

These are laptop chips retargeted for desktop use. That means they have much better onboard graphics - up to six times faster than the existing desktop chips from AMD - but are limited to eight cores and probably have fewer PCIe lanes.

These will probably be legitimately announced at CES.
Nvidia has a "Super Hot Run" of chips in the ovens at TSMC for new AI cards to be delivered to China. (Tom's Hardware)

The urgency is because (a) Nvidia's mainstream AI cards have been banned from export to China, including cards that were previously assembled in China, and (b) if they don't get the new, legal cards shipped and fulfil orders quickly, they will likely get banned too.

14 'Tis 59 F. outside. We're due for rain this p.m. and tonight, but for now it's cool and (relatively, *very* relatively) dry. Since I did not work out yesterday morning, I need to go today to get my third workout this week.

This Wednesday I'll have the Buick's oil changed and look at the wheels I ordered. If I decide to keep 'em, and my mechanic's machine is fixed, installation time. Car's gonna look sharp, I hope.

Thursday morning I meet with the pension fund guy to confirm what I see online. Then I'll sign up for Medicare B -- and retirement moves a few steps closer.

Friday, I'm off, and do not go back to work until 1/3!

Yeah, If I put in for Med B this month, I'll be able to sign up for a Medicare Advantage plan in late March, and drop my work health coverage. (Ironically it's cheaper than Med B's premium.) Late March will be about the time I'll have the budget set for next year and can put in my papers, and maybe be out the door by the first week in April.

Then, a road trip to the area in KY/IN I have my eye on, to see if I like it. The idea of such a big move is daunting, and I have no idea how to handle it or what it will cost . . . but I've got to do it.

Cost me $6000 for three U-Pack containers. Uhaul is in more places than the Pod company , and they are smaller so makes it easier to pay for thr amount you need. They will also help you find a crew to load and unload. Worked out well for me.

Thanks, NST. $2K per container? That was a whole house, though, that you needed three containers? I have only two rooms to pack up. Well, my unused vacation time when I leave work will cover my relocation costs. (I hope.)

Years ago when I moved to Denver, I had two guys from Manpower meet me at the new place and unload everything. Not sure I would trust that deal now, but it came in handy. If U-Haul will take care of that, it'll be better.

As for costs...When we moved up to CO we put everything in a pod ourselves in late spring and had it shipped for about $8k. When we moved back we paid about $20k to have the movers do it right after Christmas (in 18 inches of snow), plus a few grand to ship the hog and the wife's car.

37 There are lots of moving websites with lists of things you may need to take care of. I just had a small notebook iit all went into. If you do UPack, make sure you write down the box numbers. You'll get them in an email but better to have quick a cess to the info.

I might spend time today walking around the shoreline of the lake at a local state park. During the winter they drop the water level by a number of feet and it creates a nice sandy beach for miles. All kinds of interesting stuff to be found.

261 Also, they were quoting from the medical report, which I read in full. Poor guy, he was trying, but his body was in pretty bad shape. He had emphysema, artery blockage, and he was quitting cigarettes (he had been vaping the past two weeks before his death). He always seemed a likable fellow, didn't really do much of the liberal Hollywood blathering that most celebs do (I'm not saying he was conservative by any means), and he did try to help others in recovery. I hope he can finally rest his weary soul, cause if the accident ket didn't kill him, it was a matter of time before something else did.

That's correct, the Perry House. Speaking of which, I had a look at his final home. It's in Pacific Palasades, and I looked (via Google) at the other homes around it. His, by comparison, looks rather simple (ranch house)...granted, I'm sure the value is in the millions. He had a smallish pool (compared to his neighbors) as well.

It's pretty awesome anyway (except I'm not sure all our Stuff is going to fit in the new place), but especially compared to last Christmas - alone on Christmas Day, packing and moving from Laramie to SC, with my Jeep in the shop in Wyo for a month getting a new transmission and all my shit in a warehouse in Wyo for a month while I was in Gville sleeping on an air mattress....

Sounds like nasal adenoma which is what killed one of my cats. The doctor who worked on her was really skilled but he sat with me and said that the cancer would more than likely come back.

Well, the tox report said there was ketamine in his stomach (1.1 mg), but he had 3271 ng/mL from the heart detected.

One of my favorite cats, Clarence, got a Squamous Cell carcinoma in his right tear duct, eventually lost the eye and eventually we had to send him over the bridge as it was growing into his brain. Very traumatic. When Belle arrived as a kitten she followed him from the garden into the house and when he could run no further, she went up to him and buried her face in his chest. He became her parent for a while. Belle is now 17 (18 in April) and Clarence would have been 20.

He said that a radiologist friend saw the x-ray and said that the cancer that destroyed his jaw was working its way to the brain.

It still sucks even when it's the right time. As for my other cat, chemotherapy was offered but the vet kindly pointed out that this would just be delaying the inevitable.

She has come a long way from her health issues as a kitten. But she wasn't ever at death's door or anything. She had a case of roundworm, easily treated, and she needed to get enough to eat -- at the cattery, as good as her breeder makes it for them, there is too much competition for food and attention.

If you mean she's come a long way from my "I don't know if I can live with this energetic kitten," then yes.

421 We have 4 cats. Momma and her 3 kids; 2 M 1 F. One of the males is purely an outside cat. We see him periodically when he's hungry. The female has a crippled front paw. The other male is a sponge. Momma is sort of an inside - outside cat. The other 2 will sometimes come inside if it's cold.

Nights can be interesting if more than one is inside.
